If you can watch the highlights from last night's game, you'll see two runs score on a steal of home.

 

SD was down to their final strike, with men on second and third. Jensen, LA pitcher turns his back on the runner at third, Cabrera, who takes off for home. Jensen throws the ball to the backstop. Gibson, the ump, calls Cabrera out. Catcher takes off in chase of the ball. Gibson has second thoughts, with the ball 60 feet away and all, as Venable scores all the way from second.

 

Never seen that before.

Well he got it right like a second later so, no, not the worst call.

If he HAD the ball.. It would have been the right call. He recognized that he didn't have the ball, and reversed his call immediately. You have to imagine that the umpire was caught as far off guard as the rest of the stadium.

 

Really a remarkable play, either way.
