(Fort Mill, SC) - Charlotte first baseman Andy Wilkins, who hit three home runs last week for the Knights in four games, has been named as the International's Batter of the Week for the week ending on July 21. Wilkins is the first Knight to earn the IL weekly award this season.

For the week, which began with games on Thursday, July 18 (after the All-Star break), the Oklahoma native hit .438 (7-for-16) with six runs scored, one double, three home runs, and five RBIs over the four-game span. Currently, Wilkins is in the midst of a seven-game hit streak and has launched five home runs over his last five games (July 14-21). The 24-year-old is hitting .287 with six home runs and 13 RBIs for the Knights in 24 games this season.

 

Wilkins, who is ranked as the 12th best prospect in the White Sox organization by Baseball America, began the 2013 campaign with Double-A Birmingham and hit .288 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs over 67 games. He was named as a Southern League All-Star this year, but didn't participate in the game due to his promotion to Charlotte.
