January 10, 201610 yr This is great news for Sox fans in Central Indiana. Channel 8 WISH-TV (The CW) or sister station Channel 23 WNDY-TV (my network TV) will air the complete package of 55 Sox games produced by WGN Sports in 2016 on free television. http://wishtv.com/2016/01/08/cubs-white-so...-games-in-2016/ Last season, just 12 Sox games aired Sunday afternoons in Indianapolis on Channel 8. For 2016 I suspect weekend games will air on Channel 8, and so CW programming is not pre-empted, weekday games will air on Channel 23. .
January 11, 201610 yr Any chance Sox games air on WGN America? Also havent seen this mentioned but MLB.TV is rumored to have a significantly cheaper, "follow your team" package for all the streamers out there.
January 11, 201610 yr Author Any chance Sox games air on WGN America? None. Just over 1 year ago, Tribune Media CEO Peter Liguori, decided that WGN America will no longer carry any local Chicago sports or news. Reason is that he wanted to make WGN America more like TBS, TNT, USA Network, etc. WGN News is streamed worldwide on the internet, however with sports highlites blacked out. Even if Tribune was to change their mind, likely the rights fees paid would be much higher. Previously, I believe WGN was paying just for the local broadcast rights but getting nationwide coverage. Also havent seen this mentioned but MLB.TV is rumored to have a significantly cheaper, "follow your team" package for all the streamers out there. Not sure. But in order for Sox fans to receive the games live on MLB.tv or MLB Extra Innings, viewers must be located outside of the Sox zone (all of Iowa, most of Illinois & Indiana, small parts of Wisconsin) https://cdn2.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_ass...torialmap.0.jpg .
January 11, 201610 yr QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 07:34 PM) Any chance Sox games air on WGN America? Also havent seen this mentioned but MLB.TV is rumored to have a significantly cheaper, "follow your team" package for all the streamers out there. From everything I've read, the discount isn't really that high. Maybe 10-15% cheaper for being able to watch all the games of a team versus a slightly higher price for all of MLB.tv access. Not enough to make it attractive enough not to pay the surcharge for everything...I could see if it was a 33-50% discount just watching your favorite team's games. I think Central Indiana is a huge untapped market for the Sox. Reds have been the most popular team but they are really down right now and it's a good time for the Sox to hit that market aggressively.
January 11, 201610 yr QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 07:54 AM) This is good news. I think Central Indiana is a huge untapped market for the Sox. I think a certain other local team are in much better position to take advantage of any Reds downturn.
January 11, 201610 yr I have DirecTV and the sports package includes CSN Chicago. Will I get the Sox games on that channel or get blacked out?

Assuming that you still live in Montana, any Sox game not on MLBN, ESPN, TBS, FOX or FS1 will be blacked out. Exception would be when they are playing a team in your local market, which I am guessing is the Mariners.

January 11, 201610 yr I was afraid of that. Might have to finally cave and get the MLB Extra Innings package Last year I got mlb.tv as a birthday present. If you have a Roku or similar device, or can readily connect your laptop to your TV, you can watch games on your TV and mlb.tv costs less than MLBEI.
April 1, 201610 yr Author The broadcast schedule for WISH-TV and WNDY-TV was recently made available: http://wishtv.com/2016/01/08/cubs-white-so...-games-in-2016/ 38 Sox games + 1 pre-season + 1 Crosstown with Cubs announcers will air on Channel 23 WNDY-TV Marion, IN (my network TV). And 17 games will air on Channel 8 WISH-TV Indianapolis (The CW). 13 of those 17 games are on Sunday afternoons, and 4 of the 17 are Saturday night games. WISH-TV is simulcast in HD on Channel 23-3 WNDY-TV, a UHF signal for the benefit of viewers who may have trouble receiving the primary VHF signal. . Edited April 1, 201610 yr by InTheDriversSeat
