In the cubs vast conspiracy, they noticed how many times they played the Pirates down the stretch and traded with Pittsburgh so when they did play them, the Pirates would be playing a bunch of nobodies making the games more winnable for the cubs. I'm sure they had something to do with San Diego getting Giles as well, weakening the Pirates lineup even more.
