Of course you find the random pessimistic take on Twitter from a dude with no access vs. the general “he is in crazy demand” of actual MLB insiders.

  2. If Dejong can give Montgomery any tips or lead way with the glove then I'm game. But man he's going to play too much... and man it's going to be bad with the bat. At least the pitchers will be happier this year.

I am not a fan of moving him not because we shouldn't move him but because his value is at it's lowest point.

Much like Moncada the goal needs to be for him to build up some sort value first.

How can he build up value when he's always on the IL? Hell Eloy is the type of guy who gets injured walking up the stairs from the dugout to try and take the field before the game starts.

I’m thinking of it like this, you’re drafting an elite, game changing bat (that just happens to play first base), not a first baseman per se. The comp on him is Yordan Alvarez. You’d take him 1-1. Yeah, he may not offer much positional value (although he can play the OF too) but he has the makings of a superstar at the plate.

Plus, he does all the things the Sox are bad at an elite level for a college player. I’m talking not just bat to ball skills and power but swing decisions and pitch recognition.

.... it's almost like I'm reading Andrew Vaughn's profile when he was in college all over again.

    Your exact quote.

“Robert is coming off a 5 WAR season at a premium position (something Soto does not play) cost much less in money and is cost controlled till 2027 (Soto 2025). He will absolutely get a haul.”

THROUGH 2027…not until.  Until means he can leave after 2026.

Ok Robert is a UFA in 2028. Happy?

That actually is another reason why the Sox SHOULD get a haul for him. An extra year of control.

The way it was written…it can’t be just a two year difference from 2025 to 27.

Robert hits the market in 2027-2028, Soto in 2024-25.

Juan Soto is a UFA in 2025. I'm not sure whats so hard for that to understand.

No way, think of the Sale deal. That's the most realistic package.

    Robert is not Juan Soto.

Robert is coming off a 5 WAR season at a premium position (something Soto does not play) cost much less in money and is cost controlled till 2027 (Soto 2025). He will absolutely get a haul.

    Aka they're not interested

Considering Getz has said he wants better defensive players and wants to get more athletic.. 2 things Eloy is not, I absolutely believe he's getting dealt to the highest bidder.

This trade is a product of the dumpster fire Getz inherited. I'm sure he would have liked to get a long term high impact player but I think that will come in the Cease trade.  This trade he addressed defense, base running, makeup and pitching depth.  You know the things Hahn thought were a punch line.

Oh absolutely. Soroka is a gem of a human. Nicky by all accounts is a great teammate and even better person. Getz really is valuing character in that trade too.

  10. Nicky can bring it with the glove so Getz wasn't lying about valuing team defense. Anyone know how Braden Shewmake's glove stands out? I like that in AAA, he had 27 stolen bases to only 1 caught stealing.
