Normally I’d say don’t trust anything from barstool sports, but that is 1000% correct. Wintrust offered money for the naming rights and wanted to resurrect the comiskey name.

BUT, that money would go to ISFA and not the Sox.

Wintrust did  make a separate sponsorship offer that was also more than GR’s offer. That would have made them the full banking partner of the Sox. Where GR would just the the loan sponsor.

both offers were rejected by the Sox in favor of GR, where brooks voter’s brother in law was an executive.

I apologize if this has been discussed here before, but JR only owns a small percent of the team right but he is the puppermaster IE the controlling partner correct?

We don’t know his current stake, but he put down $1 million of the 20 needed to buy the club in 1981. So he owns “at least” 5 percent.

his CONTRACT as chairman give him controlling power over the club. He answer to the board but has final say.

Yeah Chicago is too small of a market. The Sox re-built on the South Side because nobody else wanted them as I recall.

Tampa certainly wanted them. They built a stadium for them.

The Sox are at 35th and shields still because Harold Washington and Jim Thompson brokered a deal that if the state paid for a stadium the only site would be 35th and shields (or within that footprint).

there was lots of talk about the south loop or even the west loop, but the only proposal that reached a vote was Addison. And that measure lost.

I went to one game this season.  I had planned on buying a suite to a game and bringing a bunch of friends, but between not being able to get a response from the Sox tickets reps and the overall garbage on the field, I didn't.  We ended up actually using that money as a part of the down payment towards a Disney Vacation Club membership.  Quite literally the quality of this team,  and the TLR situation, cost them somewhere around $2500 to $3000 from my family alone.

No joke, how’s the Disney thing working out for you? The mouse makes things look good, but I’m afraid it’s just a timeshare scheme.

  5. I’m pretty sure benetti has an agent when he did his fox and peacock deals. I would recommend that he uses that agent with the Sox, no matter what brooks’ lying ass says about how these guys are like family.

Cleveland extended  their stadium lease  last year. They are staying at their present location for another 20 years. The White Sox lease expires in  another 5 years. They're not going to do anything major to the present stadium  unless they renew the lease.

Cleveland reworked thier lease. The original 30 yease was set to expire this year, but it was turned into a 15 year deal that started in 2021. With an option for another ten years at the same terms.

sox have seven years(including this one) of their deal set to expire in 2029. That was extended when they changed the parks name. 2030 is a buffer year that the Sox have the right to enact. The naming rights deal expires in 2030 with or without the Sox.

So your White Sox memories pertain to the team and not the players? Interesting take.

If you replaced Paul Konerko every year with a player of similar production but a different name, you don't think that would have made the 2005 World Series less enjoyable? I absolutely think that it would have. Part of the enjoyment of fanhood is seeing a guy like Konerko dedicate his career to the city and organization, and come up big on the biggest stage in the biggest moment. Would the grand slam have felt as awesome had it been hit by a rotating 1st base piece? I would say no. Part of the joy came from seeing a guy I followed for a decade - a guy whose loyalty, community interaction, and class were second to none - succeed in the biggest moment for a team he did so much for. My memories of the game revolve around player accomplishments, not ownership moves.

paul konerko stayed in Chicago because they offered him 60 million dollars. not because he dedicated himself to Chicago and its fans. and in 2005, he was still under team control and had no choice but to play for chicago.

Reminds me of the Terrell Owens situation with the NFL hall of fame. Both guys had 0 off the field issues but because of "politics" neither guy won't be 1st ballot. Both guys grade A assholes, but their on field numbers speak for themselves. Makes you wonder if Ty Cobb was playing in this era how long he would've had to wait.

Cobb would still be a first ballot guy. Especially since his “reputation” is more or less bullshit.

Keep in mind that JR changed the design of the upper deck at the new stadium. He wanted the 2nd level of suites which made the upper deck what it is today. The original design didn't have the miserable upper deck. It was JRs doing.

Which design? Addison? Pinelas County, Florida?

But he is and always has been treated like he's Ruth, Aaron, Mays, etc.  He's been treated like he's an all time great because he's a lifetime Yankee.

And he was also %#$%@# GOOD.

All things considered, Minnie Minoso is still the best Player not in the hall. Lost 4-5 seasons due to social conditions beyond his control.

Santo got in because he flamed out due to juvenile diabetes. Also beyond his control. I think Reinsdorf got the wrong guy in the hall. Baines

was a helluva player, but Minnie ran circles around him.

Minnie wasn't on the list that Harold was on.

  12. Do you know what $15 an hour is for a full time worker? 30 grand before taxes

Is it that hard to want people to make at LEAST that?

An apartment in Chicago is on the low end $1000. Utilities are another 300 a month on the low end.  Access to the internet is at least $80 a month(phone or home service). Food for a single person is at least $200. A car payment is at least $200. Gas is likely $50 a week or more.

At $15 an hour, you would make $2400 a month pre-tax. In this example, your low end costs are $1980.  you have $420 left over to save or spend.

Now imagine those same costs making $7.25(the national minumum wage). You would earn $1160 pre tax, and be in the red $820.

Does anybody know how much more the TV deal is paying the White Sox? I haven't read anything as too how much the new deal is worth.

They were getting about 500k per game on cable, and roughly 125k on  Wgn.

Since figures weren’t released, we don’t know. But if the per game rates hits 1 million per game, then they would have roughly $150 million just in local tv money in 2020.

The Samardzija move was bad no matter what Samardzija did because he was going to become a free agent. It made it a very low upside move for the Sox and while Phegley/Bassitt were not high upside players, Semien was a relatively high upside one. Worth noting, however, that there's a good chance that Semien would have been cast off by the A's if he hadn't crossed paths with Ron Washington. He played some shockingly bad defense at shortstop in his first years with the A's (35 errors in one season!). To be honest, I was surprised with how underwhelming Semien's bat was until this year, but now that he's playing some very strong D and has finally found the kind of stroke he had as a minor leaguer he's looking really good.

I have a hard time looking back on the Peavy move as some terrible thing. He was making a lot of money and got hurt right away. But we gave up nothing. Clayton Richard had one decent year that seems largely predicated on luck and playing in the best pitchers' park around. There was real upside on the Sox side of the deal and there was very little upside on the Padres side. Sox had very bad luck with Peavy getting hurt in an unprecedented way right after he was acquired and he still ended up providing some decent value.

Peavey was ALREADY INJURED when the Sox made the trade. That’s why padres took the Sox offer at the deadline, because Williams offered the exact package as he did in May.

In retrospect he was decent when when he was healthy. And he also foolishly took a smaller below rate deal from the Sox, which ultimately allowed the Sox to not only get out from under the contract in the 2013 dumpster fire, but also get avi Garcia in the process. (To be fair, he ended up being on two WS winning clubs while under that deal).
