Please collect all the washed up and never were 30+ year old outfielders. Forget Birmingham being the future of the Sox. I bet they could beat the mlb team is a 7 game series now.

  2. He's not great, but at least Pillar can actually play centerfield. The Sox have now assembled the worst defensive outfield I can remember for this team, and that's saying something.  Eloy, Pham, Grossman, Benintendi, and Pham are all DHs. Fletcher is way better in right.  So much for prioritizing defense.

Zobrist has/had a LOT more pop in his bat...based on what we have seen from Baldwin's collegiate and MiLB career.

And it's a bit difficult to judge the level of competition for UNC-Asheville vs. a Power 5 conference.

You really have not seen the player, have you?  Comparing 27 year old Ben Zobrist in the majors at 200+ lbs to 22-23 year old Brooks Baldwin who is still around 185 lbs is just crazy. A) They are very different players. B) Ben Zobrist did not develop power until the majors. Zobrist NEVER had double digit HR in the minors. Baldwin hit double digits (15) in his first full professional season. I get it. It is always smart to bet the under on every single fricking prospect from every fricking team. Half of the top 100 are gonna bust every year. Jackson Holliday is about to get sent back down.  But unlike the gamethreads that deserve the unlimited negativity they engender, in the minors forum, we like to keep it positive.  I mean, to suggest a guy hitting .460 better hope he can be a pinch runner is about as wet blanket as it gets.

It's going to come down to his defensive skills and stolen base/PR ability...very rare are the guys like Zobrist or Chone Figgins that can legitimately play every position on the field and also hit/run pretty well.  Jose Oquendo is more the traditional archetype.

Ha ha. Have you seen him play?  Kid can hit.

Timmy, I know you know a lot about Baldwin.  Fill us in. Anybody else, too.

I have watched him a lot since he was drafted.  Just a good baseball player. Balanced swing from both sides. Probably better with a little more juice as a lefty.  Controls the zone pretty well.  Above average speed, but not a burner like Ellis.  Can put a charge into the ball for a skinnier guy. His second double tonight was crushed. Good defender in both the infield and the outfield.  Has played 7 positions as a pro.  OK at short and centerfield. Better at 2b, 3b, and the corners.  Was the MVP of the mid-major Colonial Athletic league where he played 2b. His Dad was a prominent player for Clemson back in the day.

Chappy ties it up for the Dash with his first HR of the season.

I haven't given up on him yet. He's off to a slow start because he had an injury for most of the spring. Kath is 2-2 in this game and has been hitting a little better lately.

Sounds like what we said about Micker Adolfo for going on three seasons...

Ha ha. Terrell Tatum is nothing like Micker Adolfo. Luis Gonzalez? Sure. Dominic Fletcher?  Maybe. No one is saying the guy is a core player. But there is one thing I know for certain: he would have caught the pop up that Benintendi let drop for a double last night.
