  1. Whoever is left from 1994 should do some hard thinking. The whole baseball establishment under-estimated the fan anger over the strike. They merely expected fans to come back as if nothing had happened because they thought that's how it always was. One of teams that took the biggest hit was the White Sox. There was big-time fan alienation and interest in the White Sox hit new lows. By the end of the 1990s, even when the Sox showed signs of a developing team, many were turned off and attendance plummeted. Even in 2000, when the team won the division, many could have cared less.

  2. I hope Guillen gets the Padres job. Everybody deserves another chance. Or most anyway.

For the White Sox fans and the organization, it is time to move on. The lone White Sox WS win in 102 years happened 16 going on 17 years ago. LaRussa will leave eventually and there is no need to replace him with Guillen. Guillen is not the only person who can manage a baseball team. And I really don't think that the White Sox is a good fit for Guillen. He just has too much baggage. He needs to get a truly fresh start elsewhere and learn from his past mistakes. The first thing he should do is keep his sons out of the clubhouse.

Moncada to 2nd, Burger to 3rd, Eloy in LF and Vaughn in RF. Defense won't matter with all the runs this team will score.

You can't win by only out-slugging teams. From 2001-04, the Sox hit a ton of home runs and won nothing. The idea of Eloy in left and Vaughn in right is scary. And scary for the wrong reasons.

After the last four plus decades of Reinsdorfian dysfunction, one franchise-crippling decision after another, and less-than-optimal on the field results, I think this charter AL franchise is both in need and deserving of a completely new & fresh approach by a new owner.

One who will preferably run the team as a big market team, and no more of this “can’t spend a dollar when you only have fifty cents” BS.  How about an owner with deep pockets for this team for once!

The franchise needs a completely new face lift, and I doubt that another Reinsdorf can do it. The team has just lanquished for way too long. A division title every 10 years or so doesn't cut it. Change is needed so badly, but it isn't going to happen in the near future.

Man - can’t we bears fans have one nice thing. How many years in a row without any real offense. Ugh - one time they had marshall, Jeffery, Bennett and Forte and a good qb but no line and the weakest head coach I’ve ever seen.

Blow it all up…please McCaskey. Blow it up and invest in the offense..:if Fields sucks two years from now at least the next QB we draft or acquire will have some pieces to work with.

I remember a Sun-Times story about the Bears around 1970. They described the Bears offense this way: First down-run. Second down-run. Third down-Pass. Fourth down-Punt. It is amazing some  50 years later, the Bears offense is what it is.

No because you could see the pressure get to our starting staff. The Red Sox would have teed off on us just like Houston did. Can't win many playoff games when your starters piss themselves on the mound and cant go more than 2 innings.

For the Sox to have advanced against any playoff team, they had to have a healthy Rodon. They didn't have a healthy Rodon, and, unfortunately, may never have a healthy Rodon.

  7. While I think it is important for the Sox make off-season moves, there is one vastly important factor. It is time to truly develop the young talent. Eloy, Cease, Kopech, Vaughn, Sheets, and, to an extent Moncada, need further developing. They all have talent, but there is no guarantee that they will become the major league players we hope they will be. The Rebuild is over. The future of the team is no longer in the minors. It is here, and they are the backbone of this team. We will see how truly good they are and how successful the Rebuild is.

Batting line ups are also affected. Pitchers adjust to whose on deck. You’ll see different pitches. Admittedly it’s a minor issue overall in baseball compared to other team sports.

One thing I noticed this year is the team never really peaked. Mostly due to injuries but there wasn’t that two or three week stretch where they really came together and hit a stride. I think they were still trying to find that in October and it hurt them.

I think you're right. The team never seemed to peak except at the start of the season when it had all the injuries. But I recall other division-winning seasons, and you could see when a team was getting it together. I felt that especially in 1983 and 1993. But not in 2021. Injuries had to have something to do with it, The constant juggling of lineups prevents a team from getting into a real groove. Hopefully in 2022, the team will be relatively healthy. But there are still issues with club, healthy or not.

There are five players left, and one owner left, from "when they cheated". Everyone else is gone.

    • Lance Lynn dropped off significantly since his knee issues came to light, sadly right after he signed an extension which perhaps should have not happened until the off-season, if at all.
    • Carlos Rodon's arm has also been shot the past few months, and truth be told should not have started if that was the best his current health would allow.
    • Dylan Cease has had issues against good teams all year, all career, and there is nowhere to hide in the playoffs.
    • Lucas Giolito was their best pitcher, and left with a 4-2 lead. He also has sucked in early games, and he should have started Game 1 (both because it was a few hours later, and second he is the Sox Ace, especially when you look at Lynn's current ability with his knee.

Lynn got the nod, because he is Tony's guy, every move the past year has been spending all funds and sacrificing top prospects and high roster restraining contracts to acquire mid-30s guys Tony likes. So we enter Year 3 of the "Multi-Championship Window" with limited resources to plug a hole in RF that's existed since the tanking years, and a hole in 2B that Madrigal (health) and Cesar (performance) failed to close, and a hole in the rotation (Keuchel) because of performance, and Kopech's inning restrictions due to the fact he is working off of a 69 inning base.

Fans need to stop grasping at straws and confront the fact their team wasn't good enough, has not been good enough, and with the same management and roster construction will not be good enough. The 4-3 series win over Boston was the only playoff team the Sox had a winning season series record against this season (Houston 3-8; Milwaukee 1-2; New York 1-5; Tampa Bay 3-3; Overall 11-18 in season, 1-3 postseason). There was no magic switch (either in Tony's brain or with the team) to flip when "games counted" or when "the big six were healthy", despite JR's media hacks instances that there would be. They are what their record says they are.

I agree with this. The Sox rotation, which was supposed to be a strength, has holes going into the off season. I think Cease has real potential, but he still has little experience and has to develop. Keuchel really lost it. Kopech was promoted to the major leagues with a huge fanfare, but needs to develop plenty himself. The Houston series exposed these problems and demonstrated that the White Sox are not a World Series contending team. The team has talent, but there has to be a good mixture of talent and some players regressed this year. I'm glad the Sox won their division, but I never expected 2021 to be their year. Now the FO has to respond.

I nearly because a Cubs fan due to their failures in free agency, and nearly did it against when they signed TLR as manager. I didn't see ANYBODY else considering this when TLR was hired. And you all claim to truly hate TLR and despise the hiring decision, yet nobody else considered changing sides? You all disgust me.

I am disgusted for different reasons.

The entire offseason comes down to how much the Sox believe that, and what they are willing to do to change that. Are they OK just being "a team" in the playoffs or do they want get to a point where they are making 5 straight ALCS?

The White Sox have won 3 Playoff series since 1917.

    3

Yes, and those 3 came in one season. Every other post-season, the Sox lost every series.

You ask a very good question. What are the Sox willing to do to improve and become a real contender in 2022? Because this team got exposed big time. I know the Astros are a superior club, but the Sox performance was absolutely awful. A great deal needs to be done if the Sox are going to be a real player.

Why would Rick Hahn move on now?

He probably won't, and JR isn't going to fire him because he probably doesn't see a reason to. Reinsdorf doesn't like to fire people even when there is a good reason.

One reason Hahn could leave if he fears he won't have the freedom to complete the rebuild. Or perhaps he sees an opportunity to he can't pass up. Or perhaps the combination of the two. But most likely he'll stay. He has worked for Reinsdorf for a time, and he knows what is in store for him. And most likely, he likes being in the White Sox organization. Seems to me that the biggest speculation about Hahn comes from fans, and they have no say-so in this situation.

I  am skeptical at this point. I am not impressed with consecutive playoff appearances when one comes in a 60-game season. The job of building this team is far from over. We will see what happens in the off-season. And hopefully, there will be baseball this next season.

  13. The White Sox are at a real interesting place. They can no longer use the rebuild as a reason for not winning. Some real decisions have to be made this off -season, and, if they want to become a true contender, they have to spend money, at least some money. Another season of winning a bad division only to get embarrassed in the post-season isn't going to work. Fans who put up with a losing rebuild want more than that.

I have no idea what Hahn plans on doing, but I wouldn't want to stay in a situation where I was hamstrung in decision-making. He took the risk of taking on the rebuild; he should have been able to name his own manager to move the team forward. He should be able to make the big decisions now, and he shouldn't have LaRussa or anyone besides JR looking over his shoulder. And if JR doesn't have faith in him, why is he the GM?

And what  does Jerry Reinsdorf truly want? One more World Series? Or is a figurative second place okay with him?

  14. The last two seasons brought on some exciting baseball. The team was fun to watch and had some big moments. Young players began to develop, and we fans could afford to have some real optimism. The organization deserves credit for acquiring some young talent and for turning things around. The atmosphere at the ball park was great. There were many positives.

But the performance in the playoffs was terrible. In the losses, the Sox were outscored 25-6. It is one thing to lose in the post season. It is another to have your hat handed to you.

I don't think LaRussa should be made the scapegoat, but I still don't think he was the right hire for this team at this point. And please, no Ozzie Guillen. It is time to move on in many ways and replacing one returning Sox manager with another is not the answer, not that I expect a change to happen here.

There is hope for this team, but some fans are living in la-la land. There are big issues that need to be addressed. This team has some big problems.

I did enjoy many of the great moments the last two years. The Sox could be truly entertaining. Everything was far from totally bad. I just would like the Sox to truly become an elite team in the American League. That has yet to happen.

  15. Face it. The Rebuild has taken a hit. Kopech is nowhere near being a major league pitcher and Eloy took a step backwards. This team got exposed big time. If there had  been a full season in 2020, that club never would have made the playoffs. This series was an absolute joke. It's useless to say big changes need to be made, because they won't be made. LaRussa is now 2-6 in the playoffs as Sox manager.
