It could definitely be done.  Heck, give Harper an opt out after 4 years.  The Sox just need to be willing to operate in the $150M-200M range for 2020-2025.

But Hahn has already said 2 isn't happening.  Maybe if Machado gets 7/$220M or something it opens the door a crack, but I doubt it.

While I agree, when have the Sox ever been extremely public with their plans (outside of their courting of machado). The sox work best in the weeds.

My guess is they are thinking that Pads have made latest push publicly so are probably most likely.

I think that it's clear their finances cannot support Machado with Myers and Hosmer on the books and am not worried.

The two guys I recognized who follow him are....drumroll....

    Incrarcerated Bob and Dan Clark.

I think we're good carrying on and not paying attention to this guy lol

yeah, I don't buy much of what he is selling by looking through his tweets. if manny doesn't want to go west, and SD is wanting to do a shorter contract per his other tweets, how would those two things combined put SD in the lead for Machado. Makes no sense to me

Also, most speculation I've seen have the nats there just to benefit Harper's pursuit of a contract.

It just seems inevitable that absolutely nothing will happen today, tonight Passan or someone else will tweet that it seems that the Padres are motivated to get a deal done with Machado, and it will be utter doom and gloom here after that.  Isn't that the pattern we've been following for a while?

    Go away?

I don’t think Hector knows exactly when Machado will sign but I think he has the feeling it will be soon.  He seems to have the most inside knowledge of Machado and his agents dealings, likely from Machado’s dad.

Just let me believe he knows that it is happening today.

One thing with the gloves to remember is that Harper's bat company displayed a Phillies-themed bat that was just for showcase.

Rawlings said " check out @machados13 gloves for ths season." to me this is pretty straight forward that they're for in game use this year. also, he always matched the O's team colors with his gloves when he was there.

My apologies. The Vegas insider has those odds. Didn't realize that it wasn't tied to Vegas. Either way those are the current odds of places where you can bet on those types of things.

right, but the point is, odds aren't "technically" based on predictions. they're based on where the money is coming in and where the money will come in based on the odds given.

EDIT: as someone else posted, the sox "odds" increased within an hr or two to +200 right behind the yankees who dropped back to +100. essentially meaning the money was coming in on the white sox. nothing actually changed to give them better odds. im not trying to be hostile in any way, just trying to make sure everyone understands the meaning of those numbers.
