They aren't pushing him anywhere. This has been something that was discussed all off-season. They would like their players to be more versatile.

Agreed, however... Have these agents ever been in this spot before? When they have the most premier free agents in a generation available, and there is little to no interest in them? In mid February? It's certainly a stretch. But the more I think about it, the more it's making sense. Not necessarily all the cloak and dagger stuff. But these two guys coming together makes the Sox a FORCE for a long time. They get their money, and they get their winning.

Unfortunately, it's already at that point. That is a by-product of the length of this. Had both of them signed elsewhere around the holidays, there would have been disappointment, for sure. However, this is painful.

I feel as though I keep up with this thread regularly. Trying to figure out where the doom and gloom is coming from these last few hours. A report that Machado met with another team? Of course he did. He hasn't signed anywhere yet. Why wouldn't he? I'm not saying it isn't difficult to think that there is competition...but am I missing something significant to lead to some of the violent mood swings here?

I have a 7 year old son who loves baseball and his White Sox. I have a 72 year old father who feels the same, but has 65 more years of experience. Ironically, I have had to sell this rebuild to both of them in an almost identical sense. I have also told both of them multiple times that I feel the Machado signing is imminent. Both now ask me multiple times if it's happened yet. I'm so, so tired of all of this. It's sickening. And it's really bad for the game. The owners are certainly operating under the rules of the current CBA. Of course no one should negotiate against oneself. And of course the players, and agents, should do all they can to maximize player value. But this is certainly bad for the game. Pitchers are throwing bullpens in camp on mounds. And the majority of teams aren't even set yet. If I can't tell a 7 year old boy if and when it's time to be excited about a major league team on February 9, FIX THIS SHIT!!

I wish all of our faces could be seen as we read these posts. Would be quite the visual chronology.

This is unbelievable. I am ashamed at how much I've let this thread consume me. There will definitely be a labor stoppage. I don't believe that's a Sox hat. But ..I still believe we are signing this guy.

First time poster here. 41 year old Sox fan whose life has become consumed by this. I've been monitoring this board for about a week and a half, as my dad has asked me to give him any and all updates I have. FWIW, I have believed from the onset of this offseason that the Sox are going to land one of these guys. I don't have insider information. But I do trust my gut. Maybe it's all just been wishful thinking, but I'm sticking to my guns. I believe Machado will be putting on a White Sox jersey in front of the press before this is all over. It's cool that there are sources out there, but the fact is that no one truly knows exactly what's happening. That is not meant to disrespect anyone. Let it ride, and see what happens.
