I honestly believe it's because they didn't think they would need to, and if Lozano contacted them with the San Diego offer, they thought he was bluffing.
There is no way in hell Lozano didn’t come back to the Sox with the Padres’ offer. Zero chance... Sox said they wouldn’t match at some point and if they say they didn’t, they are lying.

It’s not guaranteed money. Hahn is a tool. It looks like the Sox guaranteed $250. The Padres guaranteed $300.

Luis Basabe just broke a his right hamate bone and is out 4-6 weeks. News gets better and better.

So pathetic Yolmer Sanchez is our starting 2B which will lead to rushing Madrigal to the majors so he can put up the same OPS as Yolmer.

Then what are they saving this money for? $30 million AAV is manageable for many teams, including a team with a low payroll like the Sox. Put up or shut up, losers.

Rick and KW were negotiating with Lozano yesterday during practice
The fact is Lozano came back to the Sox with the Padres offer and Rick and KW would not match. If they try to say this didn’t happen, they are lying.

The the Sox spin is their offer was better, they loaded up with his friends, and he still went to the freaking SD Padres. So they admit they are at rock bottom as a franchise.
Reinsdorf has effectively turned the Sox into the MLB version of the Bulls.

He'd be better off not speaking today.
Agreed, he’s a clown for even saying such a thing.

Does anyone truly believe the Sox offer is superior? I smell bullshit. And no Rick, there are no elements you should be proud of. You failed... miserably.

Where can I listen to this clown show talk about missing out on their primary target?

How sad is it when trading for Joc Pedersen would be our biggest move of the offseason?

Maybe it’s me, but I don’t necessarily think Sox are out on Bryce and KW could be bluffing
Stop your wet dreaming. Sox don’t waste $13 million on two trash players if Harper was their target all along. And if Machado gets $300 million, Harper will get even more and it will also be too much for the Sox to spend.

Traded Tatis Jr. for trash and messed up signing his replacement. Hahn is amazing.

Hahn did a great job. He wasted $13 million on two garbage players to recruit Machado and helped a division rival free up $9 million as well. Stellar work to add to what he did with Tatis Jr.

Sox are a joke. 10 years of losing and more coming. No hope in sight. If you won’t spend on one on two 26 year old potential Hall of Famers when they hit free agency, you will never get a top free agent target. Sox are playing the field with the Marlins and Rays.

Reinsdorf doesn’t want to set the market... meaning we will never sign a top free agent ever.

He’s barely played at all and only struck out 16.5% in the AFL, I think we need to get you a jump to conclusions mat.
You addressed his strikeouts comment but helped bolster his “too fragile” comment at the same time.

I read this as all three teams have interest, but the Sox have the strongest interest. Padres and Phillies are interested, but aren’t as convinced they need to spend $250 million+ on Machado. Is that what everyone else took away from it?
Machado is the first choice of the Sox, Phillies, and Padres for their front offices because he is undoubtedly the best value. Phillies and Padres ownership may want Harper because he is the bigger draw of the two for fans and merchandise.

What does one do to get ready for this (aside from check it all religiously)?
Hope and pray we aren’t the runner-up (a.k.a. loser) of the 3 teams involved.

You should check out the gameday threads. They should be mandatory reading in any abnormal psych course.
10 years of losing with no end in sight is not something that leads to very happy and reasonable fans but adding Machado would be a first step in changing this mentality.

Man, since Hahn already gifted the Padres with a stud SS/3B, couldn’t they just let him have Machado as payback? Annoying...

I think he's saying all 3 Front Offices prefer Machado, but the owners in Philly and SD might not be so sure they prefer Machado over Harper, likely because Harper is the bigger marketing play.
Harper is more likely to translate to dollars, Machado is more likely to translate to wins. Front Offices want wins, owners want dollars.
White Sox FO and ownership seem to both agree on Machado being the best fit. That's how I understand his tweet.
This is how I read it as well.

White Sox keep trying to sign Machado?
Hector, man...
As opposed to not trying to sign him?

Sox couldn’t and wouldn’t sign Machado for $30 million a year. Harper will get more. What dream world are people living in with regard to Harper?!?
