Looking at the individuals, Maldonado, Benintendi and Vaughn are the worst full-time offenders. Fletcher's over-matched in CF, while he's adequate in RF. DeJong and Lopez are the team leaders. While Sheets is in negative territory at 1B, he's way better than Vaughn.

Do we really think Vaughn is worse than Sheets at first? Really?

The fact that this is a "Fearless, Aggressive, Selfless and Technically sound" roster assembled by Getz kind of explains his track record developing prospects.

Also, on yesterday's CHGO, Vinnie Duber laid into it about runners stealing all day on them, say that it's clearly a White Sox problem. You have a new pitching staff (sans Kopech), new catchers (and Korey Lee has a good arm), yet they can't throw anyone out.

FYI - It looks like Korey Lee is throwing runners out at the league average. Around 23% of the time. But Maldonado has only thrown out 1 runner all year to a very poor caught stealing rate.

Another great reason to keep Korey in the line-up as much as possible.

I am not panicking about anything, that seems a strange way to put this. How could anyone panic about anything on this team? We have reached the literal bottom of our fandom.

I’m not afraid of blocking anyone on the current team. The first baseman of the future should be a quality proven MLB FA or a high draft pick.

The point is that I don’t want some Jose Valentin type of situation where a replacement level player becomes this evergreen mainstay “heart of the team” for the next four seasons while scuffling to Dan Pasqua type numbers because he has a hot first half in one year.

That’s a very White Sox thing to do, and I think you know it.

An even more White Sox thing would be Gavin Sheets and Andrew Vaughn becoming some sort of “Veets” 1B platoon that maxes out at a combined 28 HR and .805 OPS.

I’m saying Sheets hot streak - whatever it ends up being - can’t be for real. He will come back to earth for many reasons.

Having a replacement level 1B might be passable if we had any power prospects at any position. In the White Sox’ case, we need a prototypical slugger on a team that struggles to score runs. Sheets ain’t and won’t ever be enough.

    Random thoughts...

Gavin Sheets WAS a high draft pick, and Jose Valentin was decidedly better than replacement level.

Who care.  These numbers are made up

    Not made up:

"To generate the playoff odds, we take the current standings, the remaining schedule, and each team's projected performance. We use those inputs to simulate the remaining season 20,000 times. We aggregate these outcomes to find the probability of winning the division or a Wild Card spot, along with winning the World Series and various playoff rounds. If a team has a 90% chance to make the playoffs it means that 18,000 out of the 20,000 simulated seasons end with the team making the playoffs."

I don't want Eloy Jimenez anywhere near a field and haven't for three years.

I want him DHing 140 games and hitting home runs.

I think Eloy is close to replacement level when he plays DH. So, I have a hard time caring...

It's scary. What's the modern MLB record for fewest wins in a season? Sox have been bad in the past, but this team truly is the worst in all of our lives (non hyperbole).

Essentially the Sox have to win 40 games and they won't be the worst in the modern era. We're going to win a lot more than 40 games.

  7. Kopech's FIP last year was more than a point higher than that of Touki Toussaint, Jose Urena, Jesse Scholtens, and Lance Lynn.

In short he was awful, and must have been in competition for the worst starting pitcher in all of baseball.
