For what end? Defense means nothing when the team is already out. Who cares about fielding at this point? This season is over.
I don’t even care if Eloy gets hurt. Let them play and sink or swim. We need to find out what these men can do that we have invested so much in. If the gong show happens, let them lose by 11. A better draft pick is what we want anyway.
Fair enough. Your anger is certainly justified.

So? The Sox are losing either way. Colas is the Sox only viable OF prospect. Either let him take his lumps or send him down. Can’t have the one legit prospect rotting on the vine
I have no issue with him going down to keep getting regular at-bats.

Promotion of Billy could significantly reduce the likelihood of gong show fielding plays in the late innings perhaps...

Colas is where is needs to be. The team just needs to not have blinders on with Sheets. He has faceplanted in the field twice already this season and cost the team big both times. Sheets should only play once or twice a week at most.
Colas has had a good two games in a row now at the plate. He is finally making the adjustments to the pitchers adjustments. This is the point in a prospects career that he must continue to play. Anything else will either stunt or break a prospect
Colas, may I remind you, has also blown it numerous times in the field recently. Almost twice in one game in fact against the Rays.

Was it just me or were the Rays holding the runner at first with the game tied and men on First and Third and 2 outs yesterday in the 9th?
Obviously that runner doesn't matter... I just want to point out that other teams do dumb stuff too.

Two observations...
Andrew Benintendi's statcast numbers are horrible. Yet he's still got a 700 OPS. The optimist in me says his batted ball stats will start returning to his career averages and his numbers will improve alongside. The pessimist in me says his stats could fall off a table if he doesn't start hitting the ball with a bit more oomph.
Luis Robert has got to be the biggest disappointment this season. At the start of the season he looked like he had finally put it together. He was a top hitter in the league, and was making it look easy. And the glove was elite. Now it seems like he couldn't hit the ball without a paddle. Grifol is stuck in a tough spot. To succeed we need our best hitter getting the most at-bats. Hence hitting first or second. But he's a total drain right now. Hopefully his near homerun yesterday is a sign of things to come.

Sometimes it's a good thing that Blue Jays games are blacked out in Canada.

Toronto is 13-9 and the Sox 7-15. Tot is 4-2 at home and the Sox 4-9 on the road.
The Sox better toughen up and put in a better physical and mental effort as opposed to their lackluster TB series performance.
This isn't about whether they like or respect Pedro. They need get mad and put their big boy pants on and play as the major leaguers who the Sox chose to help this team win and were paid extremely well for that.
The Sox collectively need to quit this BS play where it appears they don't care. Get rid of all these constant ways you keep finding to lose
The Sox either rise to the occasion and stop this horrible 2023 start and win their damn first series of the year, or they can continue to chock and play with no passion and effort. If they do the latter, they can go back home 7-18 or 8-17 to face the hottest team Tampa Bay, who they just got spanked by.
As long as I've been on Soxtalk, people have been under this strange delusion that if only the players "gave more effort" or "had passion" (or some similar term) they would be better.
Example A: Sox hitter grounds out weakly to the second basemen...
Soxtalk Member 1: What a terrible effort.
Soxtalk Member 2: What a lazy swing...
Sometimes you are just in a slump. And sometimes you just aren't very good... I have a hard time believing that if only we had more passion we would be contenders.
Fundamentally the problem is we give up too many walks, and don't take enough ourselves. I don't think passion and effort changes that in a major way.- 2

What is the actual injury he is dealing with?
-
Pedro is not the problem.

If you were wondering we are 29th in walks allowed, and 25th in walks taken. That is cumulative, not as a percentage of PAs.

This is getting effen ridiculous. It’s only a matter of time before Robert Jr. pulls a muscle. This is getting to the point of is their really a jinx on this team. JR needs to sell the team and a new FO needs to be installed. We have the most injuries of significantly important players I’ve ever seen. It’s getting to the point of making this an unwatchable team unless Cease is pitching b
I know it's frustrating, but literally the other team we are playing tonight has a similar amount of injured key players.

Too early? How about now after his pathetic 2 errors yesterday?
Stat line thru yesterday: .167/.200/.190/.390
All four stat lines are the worst on the team. It's one thing when he couldn't hit, but now he is a liability in the field. We can find others in the minors to come up and have these horrific stat lines and errors.
Keep in mind besides his contract option, the A's actually let him go because his hitting production was bad and going downhill quickly. Last year when he hit .271 in 43 games for the Sox, we are now finding out that was probably an aberration. Prior to his last season with the A's before being released, his prior 3 consecutive years were the worst in his 14 years at the time of release. He had a BA of .194, .243, .237 for a 3 year average of .236 and only averaging 318 AB's a year. Prior to those three declining years, when he was actually a decent player, during the prior 11 years he was hitting .275 and averaging 569 AB's per year.
I only remember him making one error yesterday.

I don`t mind Romy subbing in for Elvis now and again. But there`s really nothing from the statistics to suggest Romy would be better than Andrus.
Do we think Andrus gives a defensive plus over Romy? Maybe it's hard to tell since Elvis is out of position. -
Good point about launch angle, but presumably there is only so much you can do against someone like Framber Valdez. And that one foul ball that Moncada bombed had a good LA.

Kinda wrong thread, but since we're on the Astros, I really enjoyed The Edge: Houston Astros.
I believe it is based on the Astroball book.

11 days out for Vaughn so far. I hope his back is OK so he can start Opening Day. If Vaughn's back becomes an issue it would be great to have both Burger and Sheets on the roster to give him some rest during the season.
My fantasy sports app told me that Merkin reported that Vaughn would play in a Minor League spring training game tomorrow.

Oh fun, righty Moncada with the bases juiced.
He was actually much better last year from the right side than the left side.
Historically it's the opposite for him. Hopefully his struggles from the left side had to do with the oblique strain last year.- 1

FYI
The guy that keeps tweeting about Declan Cronin - Rylan Domingues - works for Tread Athletics. Declan Cronin seems to be a client of Tread Athletics. Maybe we're not getting the most unbiased takes here.

Has there been any additional reporting yet on what the White Sox knew at the time of signing?
All I have seen is that when the Sox signed him the MLB was already investigating, but the Sox assert that they didn't know this. -
Hot-dogging? I'm not sure the players on our team are really known for that. Maybe you can make the case with Tim Anderson (I would not), but that really doesn't seem to be a major issue with this team. If anything, a little bit of hot dogging would be a sign that this team has some friggin' life.
