I never heard Giolito saying he didn't give a shit about a game because it was in June, or September, or he was tired of being on the road. He also is in good shape, whereas Lynn is obese to morbidly obese and wonders why his knee is sore. Doesn't have to worry, he locked in another $38M in July and has gone 1-3 since.

Dude should have 15 wins now.  The bullpen blew like four of those games for him.

  2. Not watching the game today but following close enough so that I feel comfortable making this post.  Gio is our ace and needs to start Game 1.  This is also no disrespect to Lynn or Rodon who have been fantastic this year, Cy Young worthy, but Gio has been our stopper this year and the dude who, when we have needed not just a big outing but a deep outing, he has delivered.  Think his 8 innings against the Twins after the loss.  Or the complete game against the Astros (I believe his last two starts against them have been complete games).  Or the start in Tampa.  I know we all focus on the disastrous game three but lost in that was how wonderful he was in Game one of that series against Oakland.  Dude carried a perfect game into the 7th inning in his first playoff start.  He's been their best pitcher in the second half as well.

    Wear Black in October

    https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/sports/blackout-october-white-sox-ask-fans-to-dress-in-common-theme-for-playoff-games

"The Chicago White Sox became American League Central Division champions for the first time in 13 years, and the team is asking fans to attend October playoff games dressed ready to win.

"We are going to be asking all of our fans to wear black," White Sox Chief Marketing Officer Brooks Boyer told NBC 5. "We want to have an atmosphere that is going to really get our guys charged up, so it's going to be a blackout at the ballpark. All October wear black, support your White Sox.""

    FUCK YES!!!!!!!

It's not like Hamilton is an integral part of any playoff plans. It's 50/50 he even makes the playoff roster. If there was ever a perfect time for a suicide squeeze that was it. I suppose he could've popped it up into a DP but I'm just being selfish. I wanted the win so I could keep making the game thread. ;)

Ha.  I think Hamilton is a lock.  He's a good defensive replacement/speed guy that they'll likely need.  I think Goodwin won't make it.

They also matter in terms of keeping hitters timing and pitchers sharp.

I thought Lucas might have gone Game 1, but it looks like the rotation will line up like this:

    • Lynn: 9/25, 10/1, 10/7 G1, 10/13 G5
    • Giolito: 9/26, 10/2, 10/8 G2
    • Rodon: 9/29, 10/10 G3
    • Cease: 9/24, 10/3, 10/11 G4
    • Keuchel: 9/27, (likely scheduled 2-3 innings out of the bullpen vs. Detroit), Playoff Bullpen
    • Lopez: 9/28, Playoff Bullpen

    I'm fine with this.

Still think the Sox win that game if they tried a suicide squeeze bunt with Hamilton on 3rd. Leury is a decent bunter. Hamilton has great speed basically he'd score on any bunt  except one that goes like a foot  in front of the plate. Then it's 4 -3 and Hendriks pitches the 7th.

I was watching with my friend and said during Leury's at bat that they should have done a suicide squeeze.  I realize that they didn't want to risk Hamilton getting hurt but yeah.  Was surprised no suicide squeeze was done.

  7. Ah man.

I was at the blackout game with my dad.  It was the best baseball game I've ever attended.  It's also something that every fathers day and every time it's my dad's birthday, I rewatch the game as baseball was something we shared since I was like 8.  I was also at the Alexi grand slam game the day before (used my Jewish privileges of it being the high holidays to get me out of classes that day).  I was 19 years old and a sophomore in college.

I am now 32 and living in NYC.  Actor, playwright and an educator.

    Let's fucking do this!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you consider following White Sox baseball “wasting time” if they don’t win the WS, then it’s better to follow / do something else with your time. It’s only happened once for us, possible it doesn’t happen again.

I enjoyed the regular and postseasons in 1983, 2005 and the scraps we got (60 games post owner lockout) in 2020. While it was great they finally won it all. I still would have come away very happy if they fell short that year, for the six months of excellent baseball they played, the games I watched or listened to, the great times at the park enjoying with friends and family.

One of the reasons I don’t like playoff expansion, reduces the glorious 162 season to an glorified exhibition schedule.

Some of my fondest recent baseball memories are the summer of 2012 when I moved to London.  I remember waking up in a hostel and because of the time difference, was able to catch the end of the a game against KC which we took in extra innings.  The joy of the Sox being in first place at the time and me being able to follow them in London and being able to introduce some of my british mates to baseball (it didn't go well, my flatmate told me that Alexi Ramirez was a terrible player because he was only batting in the .270s) was pretty damn awesome.  Did the White Sox blow it by the end?  Yeah and it was heartbreaking, especially as the team that overtook them in the division went to the World Series.  Still I don't consider all the time spent watching games in the summer of 2012 from a foreign country to be a waste of time, even if it did end in heartbreak.

Yeah what they’ve done with Kopech this year is terrible. All around. He have been in aaa til early to mid summer managing inning, working up endurance and getting control back. And he should have been starting games in the bigs since then. Now pwe won’t even get a full 2022 out of him in the rotation. Major fuckup, bur TLR wanted him in the pen and probably doesn’t care too much about what that means for the future.

Why won't they get a full 2022 out of Kopech?  What they are doing with Kopech is exactly what they did with Chris Sale minus the extra year as a reliever.  Look at Sale's 2011 innings pitched.  Kopech is going to get pretty close to what Sale did.  There is no reason Kopech can't go 180 innings next year

Assuming the Sox limp into the playoffs ala 2000 white sox, where will the blame be put on this team?

A lot of people will point the finger at hahn/TLR in regards to handling the team the last 2 months with holding players back/fake IL stints.

What about the players themselves....Where has Eloy's production gone? The Kimbrel trade, Kopech falling off the face of the earth, et al.

    What say you?

When the White Sox win teh world series, who will you credit?  I am asking you personally.  Since you can see into the future.
