Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) I understand the Sox not picking it up, but I'm a little annoyed they got into the dance not willing to do it, they should have known that was going to be a major issue. I think this is the big issue and I know Jimbo said something similar. You had to know what you were getting into with Peavy, the $$ and his NTC.

Well at least now I can go back to rooting for all the NL Central teams except the Cubs.

Half-Marathon Sunday
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) I've been running 90 minute treks five days a week since the beginning of April. What do I eat right before? Not a damn thing. I never eat before any kinda workout. Maybe a protein shake. That's it. Food slows me down. If you feel you have to eat, make sure it's something really light. And another reason I don't like to eat before working out (especially before running) is the possibility of having to, um, take a s***. lol. I f***ing hate when I'm in the middle of a run and I get the runs. So be very careful. And like somebody said earlier, don't drink too much water before your marathon. You don't want to have to stop multiple times to take a leak. Well when you do races, especially 13.1 miles, you need the food before the race to keep you going after mile six. If you don't have the energy from the pre-race meal, there is no way to keep your pace. On training runs with modest paces, you can get away without food.

In other news, the Sox are going to have a loaded farm system by August. 4 top-70 picks, plus prospects that you get for Thome, Dye, Dotel and possibly Konerko.

This is going to be the longest thread for something that ends up as nothing. But it was a great ride while it lasted.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:49 PM) If still waiting on Heyman, he's much more connected to this than Cowley. Cowley isnt even allowed in the Sox locker room. Haha. Why? I personally don't like his snide comments about the team he is covering.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:44 PM) Cubs would have a hard time since their payroll is frozen until the sale is done and even then Ricketts (?) is already scrambling, they won't have a ton of payroll flexability Cubs also have screwed themselves with their long-term deals for players that aren't close to being worthy of them right now: Fuku, Bradley, Z, Lee...

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) Then why get into bed with the Padres? Now we have traded off our top two pitching prospects. Peavy will be traded eventually, but cant be good for the confidence of our kids. True, but it's not like they were offered for some s*** pitcher. They were offered as the centerpiece for Peavy. It could give them a boost, too. Both guys seem to have tough skin and realize it's part of the game, maybe they will pitch better. On the other hand, a guy with Floyd's mentality would shrivel down into suckitude after something like this.

QUOTE (qwerty @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) Blessing in disguise. Maybe in four years, but he certainly gives this team a much needed boost now and for at least the next three years. But it's tough to guarantee that much money to someone who is gonna have lots of wear and tear on his arm in four years.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) Its always about money, and the sox will always never spend. This could be the most embarrasing day in white sox history. 20-1 and a superstar laughs at our trade attempt. To be fair, the Sox have always been cheap when it comes to pitching and not wanting to overspend on huge long-term to deals. And the Sox have usually been right in their dealings with pitching.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) He wouldn't make this 4 year decision based on one game with the back of our rotation starter going against a team we already won the series against Well that's not what I said. If the Sox played better today, it might look a little better to him and show that we are starting to get back on track. Even if we get Peavy, we still have two horrible pitchers in the rotation. I am fairly obviously not stating that his decision is solely based on this game. But it could help a little bit. Maybe that little bit is not measurable or so inconsequential, but it could help. People need to learn to read better on this site.

If we had put a good showing today against the Twins, I would have to imagine that could have helped a little.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) "early opinion on poreda and richard: "a reliever and 5th starter'' says NL scout. but padres' towers does know pitching" Via Jon Heyman on Twitter The scout fails to mention though that as a reliever, Poreda could be a closer or an elite set-up man, both of which are hard to come by.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) Hudson's K numbers in the minors have been much more impressive. True, but Slowey did K more than a batter per inning in A-ball. Then he didn't in AAA, but he also kept his command at the higher levels. That's obviously the key for Hudson to keep performing the higher he gets up. I also recall Slowey having solid stuff, too. Time will only tell...

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) ? From what I've seen and read, he's got a very good fastball that sits in the 92-94 mph range with very good movement, and has a nasty slider as his out pitch. He's a power pitcher, not a finesse pitcher. Last year, according to BA, he was 88-92, so it's nice to see the improvement in velocity. But still at 92-94, I don't consider him a power pitcher. He has got a lot of Kevin Slowey in him, IMO. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/S/Kevin-Slowey.shtml Similar peripheral numbers.

According to Levine, Linebrink believes there is a 50/50 shot that Peavy accepts. http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog?po...amp;name=levine

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
I think Hudson could be very good in the future, but he still doesn't have overwhelming stuff to make me think he can be a stud. To me, he is more of the Twins type pitcher who succeeds with command and first-pitch strike and then in the majors does a solid, but not great job. I am all for giving him up, especially if it means we can keep Allen, Flowers, Danks and Beckham.

If Peavy loves hunting so much, he and Mark can become new besties. I am surprised that they don't know each other really as both seem like the same type of person.

I just love our new rotation if this happens, even though Danks has struggled this year, he still has good peripherals to suggest his ERA will decrease. And I am confident he will get his act together, much more than Floyd.

Going to go for a run in about 15 minutes, so I am hoping that when I come back, I see Peavy has accepted the deal.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) Seriously, the Padres could be interested in Lillibridge as a final piece of the package (to go along with a big time PTBNL). The lillicurse could be lifted and all would be well with the world again.
