  1. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 24, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) Keep in mind the cap will go down for the first time since the lockout this year. Yeah, $2.5 million I think I just saw. Player salaries should also go down that ratio, or at least I would hope (prolly wishful thinking). So that brings the Hawks to let's say $9 million -- still enough to get a big-time player or two very solid ones. The Campbell signing needed to be done to re-energized the fan base and show that Hawks management was serious, but that deal is going to be a huge mistake in two years even though right now he is overpaid.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 24, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) Can we un-sign Brian Campbell? What a horrible defensemen. Can we do it with Huet, too? It sure would be nice to have $12 million dollars to play with this off-season and still have our youngsters. Re-sign Nik for one or two years at a reasonable rate and re-sign Marty for what Nik made last year (basically those two switch salaries). The Hawks could have been even more badass next year. They could have made a run at the Sedin twins or Hossa or Gaborik. Probably one of the latter two since we will need money to resign the big boys in a couple years. But the money from Huet and Campbell would have been very nice.
  3. The league is hitting like .400 off Capps and we make him look like Mariano Rivera.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ May 24, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) Huh? Bobby got two quick outs. How could you see that coming? I thought it was over, too. Two easy outs, then Jack Wilson. I said in my head, great 5-1 homestand.
  5. So much momentum could have been had from this game. Now it's all lost and we have a real tough series with Anaheim even though they have struggled. If we barely hit the Pirates, how are we going to hit the Angels?
  6. Stone saying it: Bobby is all fastballs. Not hard to hit a hard thrower when you know what is coming even if it does have movement on it.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ May 24, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) Beckham 2-4, double, RBI Danks 1-3, BB Call Becky up, please. Danks continues to rake, definitely speeded up his ETA for Sox to mid-next year perhaps.
  8. QUOTE (scenario @ May 24, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) Just noticed that so far in today's game he has 11 groundouts to 1 flyout. His numbers prior to today's start with filthy to begin with. 35 Ks to 1 BB and a 4.57 GO/AO ratio. Wow. He looks promising.
  9. So I finished 127 of 3500 runners in the Mad City Marathon. 92 minutes was pretty good for me. Tough, hilly course, too, and my reward: nickel-sized blood blister on my right big toe.
  10. Jake Who? Clayton was fantastic tonight. Needs more endurance, but that will develop as he gets more starts under his belt. Great start. And now going for a sweep with our best pitcher. Let's get the third shutout in a row Mark.
  11. Another big development not many people are talking about is Nathan Jones. Had a great start in Kanny, now doing his thing in WS. Tonight, 2 inn, 0 hits, no runs, no walks (most important stat to me) and 3 Ks. He has a chance to be a lights-out reliever with a sick combination of high 90s heat and a wicked 12-to-6 curveball. I am starting to believe in him.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2009 -> 08:18 AM) We can say that Viciedo obviously needs two more years based on his first seven weeks ever playing in the US? Well, we also could have said Alexei Ramirez needs to go to the minors twice...and we probably would have been wrong twice. I would say so. His defense is really really raw. He can't just switch to OF in the majors, he will have to learn that in the minors. His O is still very raw, too. Bad K/BB ratio, limited power right now even though the potential is great. Let's not forget Alexei was 26 last year IIRC and Dayan is 20. Huge difference in development. If he makes it to the majors at 23, I would say that is very solid, especially since we control him for awhile.
  13. He is the only guy that is ready to be called up. Danks Ks way too much and still needs two more years in the minors. Allen needs at least another half season as he continues to improve his contact rate. Flowers same deal as Allen hitting, but also really needs 1-2 more years defensively. And Viciedo obviously needs at least two more years. Beckham doesn't really have any flaws in his game, it's just experience he needs.
  14. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:33 PM) So he can continue to show off to MLB teams how truly bad he is? Watch him play. You can tell he isn't a baseball player. At least Beckham can give this offense a jolt. I think we should just promote him. He also doesn't seem to have the mentality to get down on himself if he initially struggles.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:56 AM) Says Bulls want Gordon back. I am still not convinced he is worth the $$ he is gonna get b/c of his size, poor D and ball handling. But if you can rid Hinrich's contract and keep Gordon, you can still be in the Bosh/Amare sweepstakes. He is a dynamic scorer, which we def. lack.
  16. I hope the Padres maul the Cubs, and Peavy exits in the first with elbow soreness.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 22, 2009 -> 12:35 AM) This is a race? Oh ok. Well do your thing then. Still be careful with the amount of fluids you take in. Yeah. But when I do long runs, sometimes I don't eat before, too. So I definitely know what you are talking about.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) Yep, look at how crippled the Cubs are with their payroll in the coming years cause of all the back-loaded contracts. The Cubs window was the last two years and now they are screwed, big time. They have no money to add now, or even next year really. And they have too many guys make huge money that are not productive at all.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) Are Cub fans glad Fontenot is playing everyday now? That's so strange to me. Whenever I saw him play last year, he did well. His numbers have been great in the past, but man he sucks right now.
  20. QUOTE (G&T @ May 21, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) So it's the Sox lineup? Pretty much. Haha. I think our guys actually might have better overall averages.
  21. Cubs lineup is hilarious tonight. It's all .200 hitters basically from Lee (in the four hole) until the pitcher.
  22. Barons absolutely ranking right now. How about switching lineups and just promoting all the Barons?
  23. Beckham and Danks both hit homers. 5-1 Barons in the third.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 20, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) How does a guy without much stuff put up a 31/2 K/BB over 15 innings? He's probably a gimmick pitcher, like Wasserman, throwing from a weird angle. You can get away with that in the lower levels, but as you rise you get hit more. I have no idea if he is a gimmick pitcher, but, yeah, his numbers are sick. And some gimmick pitchers do tend to have solid ML careers such as Wunsch.
  25. Charlotte Box Score Carlos Torres: 3-2, 1.85 ERA Birmingham Box Score Lucas Harrell: 4-1, 4.14 ERA Winston-Salem Box Score Levi "Going for Win No. 1" Maxwell: 0-6, 6.00 ERA Kannapolis Box Score Dex Carter: 1-1, 3.52 ERA
