  1. Hudson is really really intriguing. I think the McCarthy comparison is good, but I also think he is better than Brandon at the same stage. One, he throws harder and two, he has a much better pitcher's body. Both are tall (B-Mac is a couple inches taller), but Hudson is built at 220 with a much stronger base.
  2. So I am a pretty experienced runner, but I've still never received solid answers on pre-race nutrition. So what should I eat the night before and the morning before? I am planning to wake up at 5 a.m. for the 7 a.m. race and eat pretty much right when I get up.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 19, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) I thought it was terrible and cheesy, the leaping ending was gay. They also apparently taped that a long time ago because Robin was barely pregnant in it and as we all saw, her and Lilly are busting and the seams. I agree with the bad episode, but I think the end was pretty solid with Ted teaching and that's where he meets his wife. This season has been very hit or miss, some episodes where great, others bad. The best was the episode with Barney singing the holiday music with his own lyrics.
  4. The best thing about this season is that I can't even get pissed anymore. I just laugh at the fact that they are hilariously bad.
  5. We have so many guys in our lineup right now that are just not ML players, and if they are they are way below average: Nix, Fields, Ramirez and Pods. The best thing from this game is Clayton looking great against a great hitting team.
  6. This season is hilarious. deja vu to 2007. You knew the Sox would give up a run right after the HR.
  7. QUOTE (tommy @ May 18, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) Bautista just stole third trotting.. Inexcusable. Fields can seriously go away. Horrible hitter, terrible fielder and his head clearly is not in the game.
  8. QUOTE (SI1020 @ May 16, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) I don't care for Skip Bayless, and he was weak in his little verbal date with Missanelli. Still I doubt that Philadelphia fans have suddenly become angels. They have a long history dating back to the days that the Phillies and Athletics both played in the city. See, I have a hard time buying that one fanbase is so much better or worse than another. Sox fans got a terrible rap with the father/son duo attacking the field. But the Cubs have their Chad Kreuter incident and others. I think all fan bases are passionate and have bad apples. Maybe some teams have more fans who are passionate, but not more passionate fans and such. Same with idiot fans, maybe some teams have more fans who are idiots (based on sheer population numbers) but not more idiotic fans.
  9. QUOTE (tommy @ May 15, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) We are playing a first place Blue Jays team, regardless.. nothing will happen until at least the series is over. It seems like they usually play very well against us and this year they happen to be real good and we happen to be bad. So getting owned is what you knew was going to happen.
  10. I wrote Mike an email and he wrote me back saying thanks. He is now a cult hero in Philly.
  11. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 15, 2009 -> 04:18 PM) I've been saying that about him all season so far. You should ask BA for a job. That was sort of my point, everyone on hear already knew that.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 15, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) BA On Viciedo I can't believe people get paid to write this stuff. Any moron could look at his stats/age and ascertain what Badler said. I want his job: just writing fairly obvious statements about players.
  13. What new? Thru four innings, Dan Hudson: 0 runs, 0 hits, 2 BBs and 4 Ks. STUD.
  14. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 13, 2009 -> 07:56 AM) He still has a brutal K/BB rate, unremarkable ground ball rate, an unsustainable HR/BIA rate, a mediocre WHIP. I don't see much to like. Your're right. Peripherals mean a lot more than ERA. Yuo gotta look at WHIP, K/9, K/BB and such. Those tell you more about a pitcher long term than ERA, in my opinion. That's why Dex Carter's last start didn't worry me, but Whisler has horrible peripherals and likely would get crushed in the majors.
  15. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 12, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) I think Q was most happy with the play of Soupy Campbell as he pointed it out about three times during the press conference. Keith seemed to have a miserable game last night. I'd like a seven game Duck Det series to get him some rest. Byf's penalty was bad but he seemd to simply stiff arm the guy. Kind of offset the Eager penalty as that was a lucky one for the Hawks. Kane is 19. The future is quite bright if Huet earns his keep and Marty is resigned. Hopefully the Sedin twins become the priority FAs for most teams and Havlat kind of just gets forgotten. With the bad economy, the Hawks might get a bargain on him, too. But I am pretty sure he wants to be a B-hawk, so as long as the money is fair. But in three years, this team is gonna have a tricky cap situation with all their studs. I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade of a Brouwer-type player and maybe Skille to try and obtain a young goalie. Beach is going to be ready next year, and so will others. They have a great situation with a great minor league system and tons of young stars right now. Just need that young stud goalie.
  16. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ May 10, 2009 -> 08:35 AM) I think taking a chance on Oliver Perez would be a huge gamble, but I think we should take a look at the idea for a sec. Paul Lo Duca was on a New York sports show and was talking about how Oliver's mechanic is the key to his succession, and once he has a bad inning, he starts to over think (which is what was going on with Floyd) and completely falls apart, I think if we gave it a shot, I think Peres would work out. my back up plans are to sign Pedro and Sheets, now with Sheets, even though he won't be ready until sometime next season, you sign him but don't guarantee him any money until he proves himself, so when he returns and goes 0-4 with a 12.00 ERA or something, you don't have to give him any money except for the league minimum Everyone in the league would love that, but fact is, Sheets and his agent (think it's Boras) don't want a league-minimum contract. The only way to realistically get him is to offer a 2-year deal worth like $10-12 million. And the Sox won't do that — in this market especially — because it makes no sense financially.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 4, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) I gave my capstone presentation on this today. Kicked ass, too. I'll be taking my capstone next semester, oh yeah!!
  18. High scoring affair I am guessing.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 1, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) Why wouldn't we want to face Padilla, he has a 7.43 ERA and a WHIP near 2? He hasn't been very good for a couple of years now, although he has beaten the White Sox at least once. He pitches well against us it seems. I am too lazy to look up stats.
  20. We miss Padilla and Millwood, so that is big for us. Please win tonight, so I can see a potential sweep or series win on Sunday Night Baseball. I worry though about Buehrle with this type of lineup. If he doesn't have his location, it could be a 1-2 inning affair for him, although he has pitched very well against Texas the past two years.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) Remenowsky pitched the 10th...3 strikeouts!!! 21 k's He has 14 k's in 8 innings this year. No walks. No ERA. I'd be curious about his stuff. Undrafted Free Agent. Ehren Wasserman also dominated in the lower levels, so did an Aaron Kirkland years back. But he is intriguing, especially being 6-5, 255.
  22. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) Dan Hudson sporting the insane 30/2 K/BB rate on the year. He's good. His numbers are like a rich man's Brad Radke.
  23. I don't think the Kanny guys will get serious consideration until they get 50 innings under their belt unless there is an injury.
  24. Hudson is ridiculous. I am not sure about his stuff, but his peripherals would suggest they are very good, prolly the ceiling of a 2.
  25. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Harrison Barnes (Ames, IA) now the #1 recruit on Scout. Reportedly he has a Top 12. Duke Florida ISU Kansas Kentucky Minnesota North Carolina Oklahoma Stanford TCU UCLA USC I never knew TCU had a basketball team. Even with his top 12, it's really a top 4: Kansas, ISU, NC and Duke.
