  1. Beckham watch: 3-3, 2 2Bs.
  2. Perfect time to steal third with Pods. Lefty on the mound, righty in the box.
  3. It's the As Clayton, they suck. Come on now.
  4. Getting squeezed a bit.
  5. Clayton not sharp so far. I think he is moving a little to quick pitch to pitch. Almost rushing the ball to the plate.
  6. Double if Q is in LF. Just saying.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 07:24 PM) Viciedo also 1-1 and has his average up to .279 after the horrendous start. Also added a SB. Glad he is getting the average up, but now is when he needs to start getting the power and patience at the plate. Not worried though as he is so young in AA ball. I think this season has been a great year developmentally for him. He absolutely sucked early on and now has shown the ability to bounce back. I am expecting a huge season from him starting now.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 07:16 PM) It doesn't stop for this kid. He'll be here within the next two weeks. Seriously, I don't care if you rotate him between 3rd, SS and 2nd (I know that is horrible for development), just get this kid's bat in uniform. Could also boost attendance and such. I actually think he could benefit fielding-wise in the majors with Ozzie and Joey around him, I mean they both were great fielders, so I think they could help there. He is too good for the minors.
  9. Excited to watch Clayton. He should pitch well tonight against a team with its best hitters as lefties and a team that sucks offensively.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) Anyone think we might target Oliver from Okl St with our first pick to fill the void of potentially trading Poreda and/or Richard? He's kind of like Carter/Hudson who had good years the year before the Sox drafted them but not so hot the year they were drafted.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 03:42 AM) I think because of money the Pirates definitely pass on Crow, which means he probably goes to Baltimore. Baltimore has the chance to be scary good in the near future in that scenario, They already have 3 of the better pitching prospects in baseball and Crow would jump right into that mix. That entire division is just going to be ridiculous. I somehow pray Crow falls down to the Sox because I would love him in our system, but that ain't happening. It looks like his decision last year is going to payoff, probably getting a similar bonus and not being apart of the Nationals organization. Seems like a win-win to me.
  12. Too lazy to make the game thread, but Danks, CJ, Flowers and Allen all hits so far, game just started.
  13. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 02:49 AM) You brought up extreme examples and my statement doesn't cover all players, it's a generalization that is typically correct. Jerry Owens was a prospect because in his 2nd full season as a pro he hit .331 in AA after skipping high-A. Tim Raines Jr. was never a big prospect and got 2 September call-ups on bad teams where he was probably called up because of his speed. I don't see how he is relevant. Age is an extremely important tool to evaluate what a player's stats mean. Cook can hit the s*** out of the ball in AA, but he is older so does that mean more than Dayan holding his own in the league at 19? Probably not. That's what I'm saying. I'm not saying Tim Raines Jr. hitting .256 in AAA with no power at age 21 is going to be a good player because he is young for his level. As with all players, there is no set rule for evaluating prospects and most need to be taken on a case-by-case basis. But most times, a prospect who is young for his league is there because he has exceeded performance expectations at a lower level or he has enormous potential, both great signs for a young player. But like you said, there are always exceptions to the rule.

Jon Link had another great outing for Charlotte. 2 inn, 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 BB and 3 Ks. If Whisler struggles, I think his time in AAA might be over. I know it's great to have two lefties, but the best pitcher should be in the majors and Link looks like that right now.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:56 PM) 5 in a row baby!!! Only 4, after tomorrow it will be 5. Haha.
  16. Please Hawk, we are not as good as anyone even when fully rolling.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) Anderson exclusively vs. LHP is a terrible idea... this year, .160 vs. LHP, but .318 vs. RHP. Sure, only 25 ABs vs. LHP, but last year when he started getting benched vs. RHP is when his batting average took a nosedive. He was great vs. lefties last year, mainly in the power department. He is a solid 4th OF though because of his D.
  18. Lazy throw from Alexei, he's gotta stop doing that.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) It's crazy how often I forget we're missing Quentin in this lineup. Last year down the stretch, we probably mentioned it every inning. Hopefully he comes back healthy and our lineup is that much better. Then you have a solid platoon of Pods vs. RHPs and Anderson vs. LHPs. And Wise can go bye-bye. I honestly think if CQ and Beckham are in the lineup over Anderson/Wise and Fields, that improves us 2-3 wins over the long haul. And the way this division is going to end up, a 2-3 wins is huge.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:32 PM) Let me ask this...who do people think is a better hitter in the majors right now, Slayer or Fields? As much as I want Fields to be our 3rd baseman for the next 5 years, it really seems like it is Beckham. His 3 hit game against Bonderman is extremely promising. Beckham is clearly the superior player. First, his contact rate is much better, Two, his leadership will be huge. And three, Slayer has got a nice, compact swing whereas Fields looks like he is in a 16-inch softball game. Hawk now talking about Fields as a potential 30/30 guy, yeah right. If he is a 30/30 guy, Jordan Danks is a 50/50 guy.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) Bring him back next year, yes or no? I'd honestly rather have Dye back as our DH. I wouldn't be surprised to see both back 1-year deals. Allen, Flowers, Viciedo and anyone else are still a year away after this one, IMO.
  22. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) The Sox have turned their swag on. There is really no excuse for not sweeping this s***ty As team.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) Jairo Garcia and Wilson Betemit in the same game? That's a High Heat 2003 player's dream. I remember was Jairo was such a stud in the minors, then he aged like four years in a day and become Santiago Casilla.
