  1. By not a deep draft, Stone means it's not top heavy. You can't tell overall talent of a draft ever, only whether there are elite-level players in the top.
  2. Nice job Josh. Now we gotta get him in, which is proving very difficult with this team.
  3. If we were playing a good hitting team today, that team could probably score 20 again on us. Colon has nothing. Fastball with little movement topping off at 88 MPH and no change or curve.
  4. The Indians are getting their second round of BP right now.
  5. So we are going to lose 2/3 to the Indians after 3/4 to Oakland. Great work Sox.
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 01:45 AM) Anyone know anything about Justin Greene? Solid results in his first full season of pro ball. I believe BA said he was the fastest player the Sox drafted last year.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) I always used to tell you how much I liked Gibson, but not as the 4th best prospect in the draft. BA is f***ing nuts. However, with the Sox pick, it would be a great pick up assuming all his medical checks out okay. He might drop down to us though and I'd take a shot. Gibson is not going to be a top of the rotation pitcher like BA apparently thinks based on his rating, but I confident, assuming he stays healthy, he becomes an annual 12-15 game winner who around a 4.00 ERA. He strikes out a lot of batters, and doesn't walk man, which suggest he has solid long-term potential and he played in a top baseball conference.
  8. Seems like a good lineup. But what are the chances of a rain delay? Coming down pretty bad in the northern suburbs.
  9. Article as a whole was very interesting, but Ohlendorf graduated from Princeton, and is apparently a genius. He says Frank Thomas was the key to the White Sox's best rate of return, which he wrote in his senior thesis. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=4230662 Maybe not PH worthy, but there was the nice Sox mention.
  10. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 01:12 AM) After a slow start, Kuhn's been raking. 19 for his last 41 and has got his average over .300. Gilmore is still hot, went 2-4 today. Got his average up to .240. Also 17 SBs, I believe. He has a good shot at being a good utility man. He has been playing all over the field this year.
  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) Gibson has a stress fracture in his pitching arm and won't be able to throw for 6 weeks. My roommate covered the team for the local paper and was calling this for a while. Gibson's velocity had dropped his last few starts. He was in the high 80s in the regional, but pitched really well anyway. I'm not a huge fan of his relative to some of the ratings. BA has him #4 on their draft prospects list, which I think is high, but if he fell to the Sox I'd take him in a heartbeat. This matters because he might fall to the Sox now. BA link Should he fall to the Sox, he should be picked by the Sox.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) What happened? He's not the fastest players in the majors...it's just he gets out of the batter's box so well. True, but last year he had 43 SBs and this year he is on pace for less than 30.
  13. BTW, Ichiro is so so so good, but what the hell happened to his speed on the base paths?
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) Seattle goes up 2-1 on a Junior 2-out double. This division is so winnable it's laughable. Seriously, 85 games probably wins this division. Although I can see Minnesota getting hot in the second half like they always do.
  15. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) Those one out spots don't always happen in the 9th and Thornton has come in for most of them. I think this actually plays to each pitcher's strengths better. Thornton has come in for the tight spots in the 6th, 7th or 8th. That might have more value than pitching the 9th with the lead. You def. right, but I guess my point is more that Thornton is our best pitcher.
  16. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:22 PM) im fine with jenks as the closer....but i personally think Thornton is the better pitcher If we needed to get one out, I pick Thornton not Jenks even though he is the closer. I would guess most agree with you.
  17. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) remember how scary hafner used to be? And then they started testing for roids.
  18. The way Thornton is pitching against righties, I think he might be the best reliever in baseball. He has been sick the past 2 weeks.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) What's his rate walk this year? Seems less than usual. Bad in April, but strong since.
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) thome is schizo these days. can't help but feel like it's nagging injuries popping up But since May started, his ability to walk once a game keeps him in the lineup.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) 2 of the first 3 batters for Indians are lefties....KEEP THORNTON IN. We better. Hafner is liable to pop a straight Liney fastball out of the park. Against Thornton, he will be gassed, no doubt.
  22. So with Getz and Fields having good games today, does Gordo play SS tomorrow?
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) Ugh...Nix is one of the biggest pull hitters I've ever seen. He has a good, short swing, but it results in a lot of fly balls to left/left center instead of rockets to the right center gap. Well he's on the right team.
