  1. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Rasner has a WHIP of 1.51, no need to push him up. He's been doing pretty well considering, though he has only allowed 2 HRs this year. That's damn impressive. The article linked said he will start in the bullpen. I think you might be looking at last year's stats for the WHIP. His WHIP this year is actually sub-1.00: 50.2 innings, 38 hits, 10 BBs and 45 Ks. He's having a great year and is only 22, so he isn't exactly old. He could be a future back-end starter or middle reliever.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) They dont call much of the low strike in the NL huh? That was close, but I think the HP ump has done a pretty good job today. Given a good-sized zone and it's been consistent for both teams.
  3. Len, Danks had two full counts in the first inning.
  4. Haha. the Mic isn't working for Santo.
  5. BEAutiful Scotty!
  6. Gotta love what you have seen from Gordo recently. Hitting the other way, walking and he has a 4 to 5 BB/K ratio, which ain't bad for a guy one year after being drafted. Sure he might not hit .300 in the majors this year, but if he gets it up to .260 with the solid walk and K rate, I'd be happy.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Quick couple of innings there. Danks has one more, maybe even two more innings in him. Let's hope we only see Danks and Jenks.
  8. I am going to say Jacob Rasner. Hudson doesn't need to be rushed, so I think he should stay in high A for a few more starts.
  9. This is the John Danks I know. His stuff isn't overpowering, but he is locating his pitches and getting Ks and easy outs.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) I knew he was a great, HoF player, but I never realized just how great he was. And a 61st round pick. That is what amazes me even more that so many people missed on him.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) Nice to see Viciedo homer. And added a walk, so both parts of his game that now need to start improving are starting to improve. And Hudson is really have almost an identical year to what B-Mac did in 2004 IIRC.
  12. Here's the problem with this survey, it costs money to attend baseball games. For many people, especially in this economy, attending a baseball game can really dig into your pockets. Most time people who attend games have more disposable income and the people who have the disposable income are going to have the same characteristics. How many Sox fans never can attend games because of money, work, where they live? It's not that valid of a survey to me because they only surveyed people who attended games, which could account for less than 50% of a fan base.
  13. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...009/268365.html Free content so I posted the Sox tidbits: Beckham Ranked No. 1 Danks Ranked No. 7 Hudson in the team photo Hudson only has thrown 60 innings so far, so BA was wrong there. I guess Dex was quasi-mentioned, but this has the makings of one of the Sox's finest draft classes. Let's hope it continues to the '09 class.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) So they're making him go to a community school just so he can be eligible earlier for the draft? So he can get drafted quicker. You only have to wait one year to be drafted out of a JuCo or community college.
  15. http://www.lvrj.com/sports/48018907.html Nationals going to potentially have the two best draft prospects in the history of the sport in back-to-back years. Will it even matter? You can't win with two players.
  16. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 07:43 AM) why does anyone believe that viciedo will have a moderate to good walk rate like andruw jones? he has 8 walks in 233 ABs and only 14 extra base hits....he has a .669 OPS...i know hes very young and raw and theres some more projectability there but if you ask me im considerably less excited about him than most here You really just have to keep in my mind what you already said: his age. Look at some of the stars of baseball and what they did as 20-year olds and you will see similar numbers. Mind you, he is also in AA, which most 20-year-olds haven't seen at their age. It's all about experience. You will see improvement every year with him.
  17. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) I'm not going to write off David Cook until he gets a shot. He'd be much more productive than Dewayne Wise. I wouldn't consider 12 HR and 40 RBI "not hitting." He's doing those numbers as a 27-year-old in AA. The power is fine, but he also is hitting .247. Sure he could be better than Wise, but Wise isn't an ML player either. Guys who hit .247 in AA simply can't just come up the majors and produce unless they are relatively young for the level with lots of improvement left. He is also repeating a league, which should have improved his numbers not made him worse. I love hyping our Sox prospects and think some are pretty damn good, but he is nothing but organizational fodder, that's the truth.
  18. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) In my opinion, the ETA's for the Barons players should be as follows... Tyler Flowers - Now Brandon Allen - start 2010 C.J. Retherford - middle 2010 or start 2011 Dayan Viciedo - start 2011 John Shelby III - start 2011 Jordan Danks - start 2010 David Cook - NOW NOW NOW Stefan Gartrell - start 2010 or middle 2010 I know there is a lot of Cook love on this board and he is solid ball player, but I have a hard time believing he is a major league baseball player. He'll be 28 years old in a month and still is in AA. To me, maybe he is a 4th OF in case of injury, but he is not a good enough player to be considered for a major league roster spot for more than a 15 days. He hit in AA last year, but didn't in AAA (65 Ks in 228 ABs last year, too). This year, he is only hitting .247 in AA, that to me, at almost 28 years of age, says not a ML player. Plus, he isn't a good enough defender to be used in CF in the majors. All he is is organizational fodder.
  19. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) He is Carlos Lee in the making. I like that one. Carlos never really walked a lot, but he also didn't strike out like Dayan. Dayan is a little bigger at the same age. I could def. see the same career path. Does that mean we will trade Dayan for the future spark plug to our next WS team?
  20. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) He has the 2nd best ERA in baseball since 2005. Only Santana has been better in that span. I doubt moving him to the AL would make him much worse. In fact, his first year in the AL, he'd probably have an overwhelming advantage with his electric stuff considering AL hitters have rarely if ever hit against him. Over the last three years -- Peavy ERA's at home = 2.72, on the road = 3.73. Coming to the Cell that road ERA indicates his home ERA with the Sox would be around 4.00 (just my guess). Also, the AL has superior offenses and is much tougher to pitch in. I honestly think he have a over-3.50 ERA.
  21. Fukodome welcome back to reality. You do suck.
  22. Or maybe Milton could have another base running blunder, that would also be funny.
  23. This game will be even more hilarious when the Cubs blow this opportunity with 2 on and no out.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) That's still on pace for 130+ strikeouts in a 500 at bat season. His BABIP in the minors is still up over .400. He's probably not a .320 hitter, which he has shown this year and even better than that in college. Because he Ks so much, he is probably a .275-.290 hitter in the majors, which is absolutely fine because he walks a lot, has decent power, steals bases and plays a GG CF.
