  1. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) id rathers see beckham at SS and Nix at 3rd than the other way around in this situation...if theres one thing i am really frustrated at right now its the organizations lack of willingness to look at Beckham in the middle IF and Alexei in CF Part of the reason is that the Sox probably see Mitchell/Danks/Quentin as the OF of the future. So after you move Alexei to CF, you gotta move him somewhere else right away. The Sox have more quality in the OF right now in the minors than in the middle infield.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) If anyone would have said we'd be competitive still with Anderson/Wise in CF, Gordon Beckham being forced to come up from the minors and Carlos Quentin on the shelf for much of the first half, I would have probably said they were insane/crazy/pathological. That and some clutch performances recently from our entire staff, and better than expected results from Richard and Contreras, this season is starting to get a little interesting. We add Q and we are gonna be real competitive. That is assuming Q returns to his form of last year or early this year, but there is no doubt he is better than Anderson/Wise (since that is ultimately who he replaces in the everyday lineup).
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) I was tempted to say bring back Juan Uribe to play 3B with Beckham moving over to SS...then Getz comes through with another huge clutch hit. He plays above average defense and has very good speed, better to have this problem I suppose than having to play Owens/Russell/Wasserman/Fields/Andy Gonzalez, that's for sure. For Getz though, he can do the little things to help you win and that's big. Bunt, steal, hit and run, he's fundamentally strong. I also think he can play some SS and 3B if needed be, sure not gonna get a gun there, but he would be able to field there. He's def. a guy you want on your roster, maybe not starting, but def. on the bench.
  4. The only way we will get an Ace IMO is by developing one of our own. There really makes no sense to go out in FA and try to buy one. First, we won't outbid some bigger market teams and two, long-term, big-deal deals for pitchers always end poorly. We have shown by winning the WS that you can with with four #2s. An ACE is great to have, but not a necessity to win.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) For who? Right now, Fields at 3rd, Beck at SS and Alexei at 2b is better than Beck at 3b, Alexei at SS and Getz at 2b. Basically, Fields > Getz. Getz is a bench player, at least Fields has shown the potential to be an impact bat.
  6. I am glad Poreda is coming regardless of what happens. I need to see if he has got moxy. Alexei needs to get his head out of his ass. Yes, Thornton is better, but he has also struggled recently. More or less, this is part of me conceding the season and wanting the youngsters to get the PT.
  7. I don't believe their pen will shut us out tonight, but with the way we are fielding recently, we probably can't hold the Cubs at 6, either.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) Carrasco coming in. Don't hang it D.J.! Low Junk. He can play around with the funny arm angles with his breaking ball, but that's all he needs to throw. He isn't going to get the fastball by Soriano, so just sweeping curve, knee-high tops.
  9. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) Jacob Rasner [the forgotten 2nd arm in the Danks-McCarthy trade] has really thrown well having been moved to the starting rotation in W/S. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=489229 6 starts, 2.40 ERA, 30 IP, 21 h, 24 K's, 4 BB's, 2.20 GB rate, .199 BAA. He made 18 starts in W/S last year. Could he be moved up to AA before long? I thought he was going to be the guy when Omogrosso got moved up that would take his spot in B-Ham. He's only 22, so he appears to be breaking though.
  10. QUOTE (Stocking @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) Ill eat two large banana's, a large cup of mix fruits containing mango, pineapple, strawberries, apple, black/blue berries, cantaloupe. I eat about 25 baby carrots throughout the day, and a large salad for dinner. And while its mango season, I eat a whole mango almost daily as well. I think your fine, definitely on the veggies size. The one thing about fruit is some tend to be sugary, so that is a concern. If you eat enough fruit that surpasses maybe 4-6 servings, then maybe cut down on a couple servings of fruit a day.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:48 AM) Mission accomplished and then some! Down to 155. That's 75 pounds dropped since November. I can't believe I did this s***. Big thanks to Rex and everybody in here for dropping countless tips/knowledge/ect. Now the REAL challenge begins. Maintaining this new healthy lifestyle. I hope I'm up for it. That amazing; just shows your dedication. Congrats on taking the weight off, but if you've come this far, I have no doubt, you'll stick to your plan and keep it off.
  12. Jose better start getting the ball down. Knee high, not belt high.
  13. When are we going to bunt to test slow-ass Jake Fox at third. Pods, Alexei, Getz, Anderson and Beck should all be thinking about that.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) Some observations about Mitchell: - he's not nearly as much of a slap hitter as I had feared. He has a compact swing and gets good lift on the ball. - his contact rate was pretty good. With all of his strike outs, I thought he'd be a free swinger who couldn't recognize offspeed pitches. He must have K'd looking an awful lot. - didn't see enough of his defense to make any judgments. - he has a swagger to him that you love to see. I guarantee that if he was picked by someone else, there would have been people on here wishing we would have picked him. - the last two years of the CWS have been awesome for us Sox fans. Basically the two biggest stars of the past two years have been Beckham and Mitchell. Simply put, we got a steal. I know I was hesitant to draft him, then when we did, I was disappointed. I heard some JO comparisons and that made me dislike him, but after watching him, there is no comparison. Mitchell has got great power, he hits the ball far on weak swings. He just is jacked with strong, quick wrists. His speed is better than Owens and he walks a ton. He can be a dynamic player for the Sox. The Crawford comparisons are good, but he can be better than Carl. Both have similar speed, but Mitchell should be able to hit for way more power than CC and walk a ton more. I love the pick now after actually seeing him play. I really think he can be a 30/30 guy in his prime who also has a +.400 OBP. He seems to have a great attitude and seems like a good clubhouse guy, just based off the jokes he told during the CWS. He also is not even that raw, I can't imagine what he will be like in three years after devoting it all to baseball. I would have picked him in the top ten in this draft after seeing him play. He is that good.
  15. I hope John Moore drops to us, which I doubt. But he is from the northern suburbs and one of the best skating defenseman in recent memory.
  16. QUOTE (Stocking @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) here's a dumb question, can i eat too much fruit and vegtables? I snack on baby carrots and bananas like crazy. I know fruits are high in sugar, so more so the veg. You can, but I am guessing it's very hard. About how many servings do you have a day of fruit and veggies?
  17. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) Matt Ginter and ? Ginter??? Typo LOL.
  18. Here's what I have been eating every day for the most part: Breakfast Oatmeal Lunch Turkey Sandwich Snacks Veggie Salad: Spinach leaves, peas and shredded carrots. Fruit Salad: Cantaloupe, banana, raspberries and blueberries. Bowl of granola Bowl of cottage cheese Zone Bar Cliff Bar Usually a couple granola bars as well Two scoops of peanut butter Dinner Either turkey burger, chicken, salmon or tacos. Asparagus or broccoli And sometimes potatoes Liquids 3 Glasses of Milk Propel Lots of water (around 100 ounces a day) I also usually snack on something else throughout the day or have a different dinner, but this is usually my daily routine for food. I eat pretty healthy and also eat a lot.
  19. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Very optimistic? Since when? Maybe in the last couple of months. But IMO, a little optimism is warranted given the sharp turnaround the organization has made in the last couple of years and to help balance the general overwhelming pessimism most fans have had about Sox prospects. I posted this in another thread, but it is still relevant here. I think the reason don't want to be overly optimistic is because they have been burned before on prospects. I have followed Sox minor leaguers since 2000 and I got really excited then we had the best farm system according to baseball america. Here is the Sox's top 15 prospects following the completion of the 2000 season: 1) Rauch 2) Borchard 3) Crede 4) Ginter 5) Wright 6) Barcelo 7) West 8) Rowand 9) Fogg 10) Stumm 11) Majewski 12) Liefer 13) Biddle 14) Malone 15) Bajenaru Two of these guys lived up to their billing as top prospects (Crede and Rowand) and a lot of them had tremendous minor league success (Rauch was BA's player of the year in 2000). These guys had arguably as good numbers as any of current Sox prospects. Most people thought that these guys would be the foundation to our team the next decade and only two of them were that. Sometimes it's better to err on the side of caution and be surprised if they make rather than be let down when they fail to live up to our expectatio
  20. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) Well, you have the people who trash the guys who are struggling, and disregard the ones who are having success. I wonder how some would have reacted to Evan Longoria if he had been in the White Sox organization. Would they have been saying, "it's just AA" when he had a great season for Montgomery in 2007? I also think its alot of being burned before on prospects. 21. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) Marty he is only 25 this year so if he makes the bigs by 26 I consider that a late bloomer. There are a few cases. Ryan Howard comes to mind. Hopfully he will continue to rake and get a chance in AAA and maybe a Sep callup. It is not out of the ards as this is kinda a rebuilding year. Howard was 24 in AA when he hits 37 HRs in 374 at-bats and 25 in AAA when he hit 16 HRs in 210 at-bats with a .371 BA and 1.157 OPS. Howard was mashing at those levels and was hardly a late bloomer, more like a slow developed player. Gartrell isn't close to the same player Howard was in the minors. I agree with the notion that he could be a good bench player since he hits lefties so well. So while he isn't a starting caliber-type player (I think), a 4th OF isn't a bad player, especially if he mashes lefties for a ML team.
  22. Yesterday's game definitely resuscitated the Cubs. Down 3-0 to Mr. Cy Young.
  23. Really there is still so much hope for this team despite yesterday's debacle. Our SP right now is arguably one of the best in baseball, our bullpen is usually dominant and offense is starting to hit better -- at least we are seeing the ability to manufacture runs. We are going to hit HRs sooner or later and start more runs. But the best development the past two weeks is the SP and the fact that Detroit has as many issues as us if not more, but they also have two Aces right now. The Twins worry me though, they are just lurking like they always do. But they still can't figure out a 4/5 starter, their bullpen is bad beside Nathan and Mauer/Morneau/Kubel will not keep their current hitting paces up. Sure they are great hitters, Mauer and Morneau are arguably the best in the league, but they are both posting big-time career years. Surely, they will come back a little bit. I honestly think we have the least amount of issues in the division.
  24. Here are his stats so far: .366 BA, 0 HR, 5 RBIs, 14 BBs, 5 Ks and a .527 OBP. (41 at-bats) OK so this may be a bit premature, but I just really like this guy and think he has a great future. Really only basing this off his BB and K rate. Although this sample size is small, last year as a 17-year-old he had a 33/33 K to BB ratio in 172 at-bats, granted he only hit .209. But youngsters show that much patience at such a young age and seemingly improve greatly after one year of pro ball, he seems to ooze potential. He is 6-1, 180, so he is not a twig, but def. has room to grow. Pretty much looks like a lot of high school kids his age. I just can't get over his K to BB ratio at such a young age. Thoughts?
  25. Favorite place to eat: Manny's Deli. Nothing better. On Jefferson right off Roosevelt.
