Throw his whiny ass in the pen?

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 09:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hey, maybe our minors could produce someone capable of posting a sub 4 ERA? No? Well, what about a sub 5 ERA? No?! Sub 10ERA?! Yeah, we could probably get that. Hilarious how you don't like the idea of trading prospects for bullpen guys, yet all of our minor leaguers get the Cleveland steamer treatment from you. :rolly How many teams do you think would love to be in our position right now in terms of our ML talent and farm system?

I'm surprised WCSox isn't advocating trading Contreras for Taveras (again) yet. -

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/features/fre...ts?positionId=0 There is a list of all the free agent relievers that signed in the offseason. Feel free which ones KW should've signed. We've already went over Myers, so I'll take take care of Eyre. Eyre's agent said EVERY team called for him, and Scott said he and his agent had a set price, and Jim Hendry's first offer was actually MORE than what they were expecting, so he jumped to the Cubs quickly. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Which is exactly why he should have been looking to sign real relievers last winter instead of the Monteros, and Lopezs, and Bentz's of the world. He made an offer to Mike Myers but Myers said he wanted to pitch in New York because of the "mystique" or whatever. Who else was there? Billy Wagner, Roberto Hernandez? Another thing: Signing bullpen help is one of the most risky moves a GM can make because relievers are so inconsistent. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 08:51 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He wanted to sign Wright, and reports had him nearly signed until the Yankees came in at the last second and trumped the Sox offer. He wanted no part of AJ, and tried to get Jason Kendall. At least he came to his senses with AJ, because IMO, no AJ no WS.Its going to cost him a whole lot more to fix the bullpen now in terms of talent and money than it would have if he did it last winter. I was in favor of the Sox signing Wright before he failed his first physical Yankees. Do you think the Sox would've signed him if he failed his physical? The only real valid report of Wright going to the Sox was from Peter Gammons. So take that for what's it worth. He also made the originally decision on AJ after doing some background checking from other people in the organization and felt it wasn't a good idea. Everyone is looking for bullpen help, and not too many teams are willing to sell because they're still in it. I'm going to throw out this name; Kerry Wood for bullpen. Supposedly with wife loves Chicago which is why it's going to be hard to trade for him. Would he waive it to join our BP? He pitched pretty well even with a bum shoulder last year. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't you mean Cotts vs Phelps? Was that who it was? I just remember Hawk saying "No, no, no, no, no, no. When he can't catch up to your fastball, you don't speed up his bat with your change up." -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Can anyone f***ing believe this? You'd think after Dye's HR it could have energized our ballclub to compose themselves and leave Cleveland with a split. And I'm REALLY f***ing sick of Hawk/DJ talking about "not speeding up bats" when hitters can't catch up to a fastball. Santana sure doesn't care about that logic. Considering McCarthy's changeup, he needs to throw it. If a hitter continues to foul off a fastball, they're eventually going to catch up. You need another pitch thrown it. It makes little sense when they bring it up. McCarthy just can't grip the changeup with a s*** as of now. :rolly Who else in the league has a change up like Santana? The McCarthy-Belliard at-bat reminded me of Cotts-Cattalonatto at-bat back in 2004 in the Sky Dome. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> KW made me sick last winter trading bullpen guys and not getting replacements, and counting on Cotts and Politte to match or come close to last season's performances. Thornton replaced Marte, BMac replaced Viz. The Politte dropped off was expected, but was anyone expecting a 7.00 ERA+ -

QUOTE(Sox It To Em @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The 2006 team isn't even half of the 2005 team. They're what? 1 game behind last year's pace? I'm getting pissed off too, but at least we're not the Royals. You better believe Ozzie is going to rip to the media tonight. -
