  1. QUOTE(mc20 @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 06:04 PM)
    With all these contrases and uribe for tejada rumors going around, why do most people posting not want to lose uribe. sure hes good and has a bright future, but Miguel Tejada is a former mvp and a stud, he could make us a dynasty

    For one thing, he's whining about being in Baltimore - no one made him go to baltimore, he wasn't traded - he chose to play in Baltimore.

    Because his price exceeds his production. Everyone gets all excited about him, but when you look at his numbers, there are many, many players who put up better. The only difference is he's a SS. Well, right now we have a 3B with mediocre production, a C with mediocre production and a CF with mediocre production, and a LF who can get on base but nothing more. By picking the SS as the offensive position to improve, we're paying the premium price.

    If it were Jose and Uribe, at least we'd be dealing from depth and strength. But you know it won't be - there will surely be, at a minimum, one top prospect added.

  2. QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 08:15 PM)
    I really believe many of you will be extremely dissapointed with what we get for garland. Quite frankly I truly believe many of you are over rating his trade value. We will see what comes out of it.

    He's a lot better than Eaton - and Eaton brought in some decent talent. I have yet to see a trade proposal that nets the Sox what the Padres got for Eaton.
  3. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 02:45 PM)
    That would be good from that standpoint, we would have found our second lefty to the pen and move BMac into the 5th starters spot. But that could not be all that we get. The other teams would be getting studs and we would be getting shafted if bedard is the only player we recieve.

    Bedard wouldn't be a bad player to pitck up, but add a major prospect to that trade to get the Sox interested.

  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 11:11 PM)
    I think we've all told you like a million times that moving Pods to center just isn't an option, as good as Giles is offensively it just wouldnt be worth it.

    EDIT: Also you weren't getting ridiculed for suggesting Giles you were getting ridiculed for bringing it up over and over and over again.

    Crede's not a free agent for 3 more seasons. Who cares who is agent is at this point?

    His contract is dirt-cheap.

    What better 3B is available?

    No use giving up talent for a non-upgrade.

  5. QUOTE(chisoxgrl @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 11:10 PM)
    I did hear of this. I am going to take a lot of flack, but I do not want Crede to go. I can say g-bye to Garland but not Joe. I am all for the Tejada trade with Garland and Uribe, but not Joe. I know Joe has Boras for an agent and that means KW won't deal. Crede's defense is stellar, and he comes through every time offensively when we need it. A normal at bat will be a pop out, but when we need to tie or we need a walk off he has done it! I am sure there are more things to consider than what I see, in fact I know, but that is something I feel strongly about. Crede needs to stay. I think anything he may lack is made up for in the moments that are critical. That has been what I have seen, especially this year. Crede in the clutch is worth it.

    We've got Crede locked up for 3 more years; there's no reason to trade him for a more expensive non-upgrade like Blalock. Kenny doesn't have to worry about signing him for 3 years, so what's the difference who his agent is?

  6. I'm okay with prospects, as long as they are really good prospects - grade A prospects.

    My first preference would be to get a real top flight player; that looks doubtful, and we dont' need any mediocre small upgrades. I'd much prefer prospects to, say, trading him for someone like Blalock.

  7. QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 07:35 PM)
    I wouldn't say he is overrated, it is just people expected more out of him after 2004.  For under a $1 million a year he is a steal for a guy with a lifetime BA of .285, OBP of .373, and averages of 15 HR and 75 RBI a year.  He is also a Lefty which is a plus.

    He's a decent hitter - for a left fielder; just not as a first baseman, unless he's on the bosox or yanks and surrounded by lots of other power hitters.

  8. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 12:00 AM)
    Why not Pierre? The Marlins are looking to give away all their good players and build up the farm again.

    Because our defense will take a beating and he is a swing at anything hitter with zero power.

  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 08:56 PM)
    I think when it comes to starters we are done.  We might aquire bench depth, but the Sox starting line up is set IMO.

    If that's the case, the fans are defrauded. Because Anderson makes less than Rowand did last year and Thome makes less than Konerko last year (aggregate of around $4mill). And the disparity is even greater compared to what Rowand and Konerko will make in 2006. So that would mean that JR is taking his championship, taking his sold out season tickets, and slashing payroll.

    I certainly hope that isn't the case.

  10. QUOTE(Soxman72 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 02:59 PM)
    I agree Rowand44.

    By trading Rowand to the Phillies for Thome

    OR

    By trading Crede to the Marlins for Pierre

    You will not lose one of our big pitchers.  You could see some minor league talent in the deals but not B-Mac.  I also believe Marte has seen his last days in Chicago, but that is just me.

    I believe KW will try to make deals without involving our pitchers.  Pitching won us the ring.

    Or we could trade Rowand for Thome and not completely destroy our defense in the process. We wouldn't be "okay" defensively with Pierre in center - far from it.

    We have a few years to go with Crede before we have to worry about Boras.

  11. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:28 PM)
    The ultimate trade would be Pierre and Delgado for Rowand, Anderson and someone else, but that's just dreaming.

    Pierre can't hit - no thanks. The Marlins have been looking for an upgrade in CF for a year. The Marlins are great at hyping their stiffs that they want to trade (if you listened to them in July, AJ Burnett was Roger Clemens)

    We have a lot of young outfielders in the minors; we should use the surplus to strengthen weaknesses, like offense.

    I don't know whether or not Anderson can hit ML pitching. But it's pretty clear that he can play good D. But I do know that we need to either use players like Anderson or trade them; don't let them rot on the vine like Schueler did. And right now, Rowand is our best trading chit and the Yankees seem enthralled with him (although that would take a 3 way deal as they have nothing we need). Only Young and McCarthy should be untouchables, imo.

  12. QUOTE(joeynach @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 09:50 PM)
    If Paulie leaves my vote is for a trade to acquire Hillenbrand or Overbay, preferably Overbay since hes younger and has a much higher OBP and walks more.  Let Andersen take over after 2006 when Dye's contract is up and possibly let him DH this year.

    Overbay has insufficient power for 1B. We could compensate for it somewhere else, but we won't - no one available. The Overbays, Graces and Oleruds look good on stat sheets with all of their walks, but they don't cut it unless surrouned by a few guys who can hit homers (as Olerud was in Seattle and Toronto and NY).

  13. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 11:31 AM)
    Obviously Konerko is the Sox number 1 priority and Thomas is number 2.  However I think they have to try to sign Everett.  He has been key to this team.  he is a leader in the clubhouse and he might be a very good guy to come off the bench.  He would also come pretty cheap.  He brings an attitude to the clubhouse that was key to this team.  Just like Pierzynksi that brought a swagger to this team.  I also have a feeling he wants to come back.  Git r done Kenny.

    He didn't have a good 2nd half and he can't play the field.

    We need to make changes to keep the team fresh. I'd start there and then look to the outfield perhaps.

  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 10:50 AM)
    That comparison doesn't work at all. The move to 1B is one of the easiest around, when players get older and it becomes more of a hassle to move around in the outfield they can find new wind at a spot like 1B where there isn't as much movement.

    You use Carl moving to CF as a joke, Carl can't play out there anymore considering how much speed he's lost however Dye could go to first pretty easily.

    Konerko is the same, slow as f***.

    Dye to first isn't all that far fetched, OF to 1B isn't that tough of a move especially if you have some previous experience at the position. Erstad moved from the OF to 1B and ended up winning a GG last season.

    Dye doesn't produce enough for an offensive position like 1B. You need a home-run hitter and/or a big time OBP player. Dye produces neither. Makes the Sox significantly worse. That should be plan ZZZZZZZ

  15. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 04:35 PM)
    With most of the big names not likely to get moved -- AJ Burnett, Jason Schmidt, and Billy Wagner -- I don't think there is anyone on the market worth trading Brandon McCarthy for.  Not Aubrey Huff, Eddie Guardado, etc., etc., and definitely not Danys "Blown Save" Baez.

    One of the posts on here noted that McCarthy has settled down at AAA, with a 1.80 ERA over his last 3 games, including an 8-inning shut out last time out.

    I think McCarthy could still help us as a last arm in the bullpen if they would let him finish his AAA season and bring him up as a September call up.

    And I don't want to mortgage the future of the franchise for a mediocre player that isn't go to be the key to the future of this team like Brandon McCarthy could be.

    Where would we be this year if we'd dumped Jon Garland for the mediocre 1B of the Angels?  We'd be about even with the Twins, and likely to fade down the stretch like we did each of the last 3 years.

    We need to keep core, impact, young ballplayers.

    As someone said, the best chance to win it all is to be in the postseason every year, not just one out of every 5 years.

    Sure, we've got an excellent chance this year, and I'm willing to part with non-essential pieces.  But I'm going to be sick if we pull another Kip Wells/Josh Fogg type overpayment deal on someone who never contributed a lick to our team.

    KEEP MCCARTHY (and Politte, Cotts, Sweeney, Young, and Jenks).

    I concur with your sentiments, but we may need to trade him anyway.

    But, I'd much rather see us trade an outfield prospect, since we have so many.

    Fogg and Wells aren't even top rung pitchers, and the loss of them hurts anyway.

    I think McCarthy is going to be a really good pitcher.

    We are really set up to contend for a long time. WE have some good, but old, players under reasonable, but short term contracts. They'll roll off, and it sure would be nice to replace some of them with some young players. We'll need to.

    If we trade 3 or 4 prospects this year, better hope we win it all this year; and that's even more the case if we pick up some bad contracts along the way
