  1. Great finale of Better Call Saul last night.  I think it wrapped things up quite well.

    Spoiler

Loved the twist at the end with him retelling the story of meeting Water White for the first time and then telling the truth about how he loved it and essentially made Walt who he was.  I don't think he does that if he didn't find out Kim had confessed.  For all his faults, he loved her and would do anything for her.

  2. Huge win.  I'm glad to have been wrong about the game after the horrid start.  That game could have easily spiraled into an embarrassing loss as we've seen happen before.  But Cueto just kept pitching and was superb as he has been all season.  The late inning rally is something we haven't seen much of this season.  Moncada's clutch 2-run single was huge, and it's great to see him come through.  Maybe that will do something for his confidence.

  3. The sweep of the hapless Tigers was nice.  They've played shitty teams in the past and struggled, so this was a good result.  But we've also seen this team play well for a stretch and then lie down and play TLR's game and get slaughtered.

A split with Houston is the absolute minimum this team needs in order to keep the momentum.  And winning tonight would be even better.  Set the table for tomorrow's huge pitching match-up.

  4. The Sox may somehow make the playoffs, but that does seem unlikely at this point.  And even if they do, there's no way they can compete the Yankees, Astros, Rays, Mariners, etc.  So, it's hard for me to imagine the Sox going into 2023 with TLR at the helm.  Since it is Tony, and he's buddy-buddy with Reinsdorf, if he is relieved of his duties he'll be given some ambassador role or some shit.  Fine, I don't care.  Keep his ass out of the dugout.

Aside from Katz, they should hire a new staff and actually focus on guys who understand modern baseball and statistics.

  5. Moncada and Grandal are my least favorite players to watch bat.  Both at one time were so dangerous at the plate.  Now they're both almost sure outs, unproductive outs.

Moncada frustrates the shit out of me because he looked so damn good in 2019.  He's a shell of that former player, and I honestly don't think we'll see that guy again.  As I said, before, though, he's not getting any help from his manager or hitting coach.  That has to be a factor, but I just don't know how much of a factor.  He might just be broken.

His power? Big deal he got lucky and hit a home run last night. He only has 6 HR's for the year. His last home run was July 17th. Oh great, we get to wait another 18 games for his power? In the meantime he has slash numbers of .197/.258/.322/.580. There should be some power at third base!

I know his flaws are numerous with poor plate discipline, swings at too many pitches outside the zone and let's looks at too many called strikes in the center of the plate. but it is what it is. He is screwed up for numerous reasons and he is hurting the team. Most importantly per the expectations we traded for him and based on only one good year in 2019, he is a bust. When Burger comes back I would much rather see play third and get a lot of playing experience there.

He has power, but he's not tapping into it.  He does have a ton of flaws at the plate, flaws that he didn't have in 2019 for sure.  That's why I think he can be fixed.  But he is really hurting this team right now.  Honestly if he can return to even 2021 form, the bat is fine when he provides the defense he does.

I'm not saying he will ever be the guy he could and should be.  He might be the most frustrating player to watch on this team because of his potential.

I could see Anderson being traded. Let's just hope Hahn is gone because he would undoubtedly screw it up.

Moncada for now might play better defense at third over second, however if he would lose some weight and get into better shape, he could play second. In his first minor league season with Boston at A ball, he was much lighter and he had 49 of 52 stolen bases. He played a good second base back then. Fast forward to today and he is now slow, lazy and cannot hit!

He surely isn't getting any better until he can get into better shape and not have constant injuries, as well as he needs a good hitting coach, which this team does not currently have; to straighten him out.

His defense is very good at third.  I wouldn't mess with that.  He still has power, as evidenced by last night's blast.  His hitting has fallen off a cliff, though.  Some coaching from a real hitting coach would definitely help.  Plus, he needs to be more aggressive early in the count.  He watches good pitches way too often.  Then he either freezes on strikes three or swings at bad pitches.

  8. Martin did a nice job, too.  Exactly what we needed him to do.

Sosa's first home run and multi-hit game was a cool thing to see.  He needs to start almost every game.  Leury was absolutely useless yesterday, and he for some reason started both games.

Moncada's nice defensive play followed by the big home run was encouraging.  We need to see a lot more of that Yoan.

  9. It's hard to say what his offensive ceiling might be.  I think he has plenty of power, and he's shown that he has that power.  But, like the rest of the team right now, he's hitting ground balls.  The hitting philosophy is so bad with this team that he and others are being robbed of their potential.  He's young, so hopefully the Sox go in a different direction at hitting coach and he can turn it around.  Under the right hitting coach, and manager for that matter, he could be 25+ HR guy, I think.  He needs consistent playing time, and he needs better coaching.  Maybe he sacrifices some of his average if he taps into the power.  Maybe not.  Regardless, I don't think it's fair to say he doesn't have enough power based on his performance this season.
