QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 02:14 AM) Go to gatewaystamp.com . Its pretty cool. WHy is there an Alan Trammell autograph? I know he didn't play for the White Sox.

This items looks pretty cool but I've never seen this before. Does anybody know anything about these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5152418398&rd=1

Thanks for proving my point. An ace wouldn't have lost the game against the Yankees.

Here I'll type very slowly so somebody as slow as yourself can understand. MB has never been in that situation before. We don't know for sure if he can handle that situation. We could go back and forth and say Yes he can or No he can't. BUT until and unless MB gets into a pennant race we won't know. Now I'll type that again, so even you can understand. He was part of the reason for the Mariners choking the division and WC away. And please name me the dozen of pitchers who stepped up?
-
You got to get to the playoffs first.
-
Let me see. Willie Harris in his first season as a semi full time player improved his average, OBP and SLG. Add to the fact that he is 27 and people want to get rid of him? But most of these same people are happy with a 40 year old pitcher, who is coming off an arm injury, and the more innings he pitches the HIGHER his ERA is. It can only be The Sky is Falling White Sox fan.
-
Did I say that Clement was going to be the White Sox ace? No. Third starter? Sure. A better option than El Do Nothing.
-
What in MB's history shows he CAN pitch in those situations? Nothing because he hasn't been in them. We don't know until he's in that situation and that's all I pointed out when I posted the concerns I have about the rotation. I'll give you the perfect example, Mark Langston. Great pitcher when there is no pressure but a gutless loser when the pressure is on. See the Expos in 89 and the Angels. He was great in Seattle when they were always out of the race by July. And I'll never forget that gutless loser crying like a little girl in 95 during that one game playoff against Seattle. The gutless loser couldn't handle it. With that said, I'm not saying that MB would be the next Langston. All I'm saying is that he hasn't faced that situation and until/unless he does, we won't know how he handles the pressure.

You just used fool in your post. And I know you didn't say it directly to me. I didn't mean anything by it. But we are talking two different things. I agree you gotta win games in April for Sept to even matter. But there is no question during a pennant race, there is more pressure to win in Sept.
-
You're talking about two different things you fool. A win is important in April as it is in Sept. But there is more pressure in Sept. If you think there is more pressure in April you're really a fool. The pressure is at least 10 times more in Sept. IF you're in the pennant race.

Oh man, my bad. I did misread his post. Sorry. Hell this brings up another point. If Robbie is trying for 3,000 at the expense of his 300 average, could that hurt his HOF chances? He hasn't hit 260 the past 3-4 years. His career is fading so quickly. I think that's what hurt Jim Rice's chances for the HOF. He was a great player, maybe the best, from the mid 70's to early 80's but he faded fast and I think people remember that more than his great years.
-
El Do Nothing is a great pitcher when he's healthy? Come on. I'll give you pitching once a week during the playoffs he's good. But during the season, pitching on four days rest he gets bombed. Take a look at his ERA. The more innings he throws the higher his ERA. He's only pitched over 200 innings once though he did have a 195 inning season, though with a 4.51 ERA. Does that make him a great pitcher? Millwood and Perez still hasn't signed, unless they are dumb their asking price has to go down. If the White Sox took Loiaza's salary and some of the other cost saving measures, they could have signed one or both of them. At the very least have the flexibility to make what I consider better decisions.
-
Do you know what pressure games mean? They aren't in April or May. They are in August and Sept when your team is within 3-5 games of first place. The White Sox haven't been in that position for so long that we don't know how MB will handle those situations. You know what a big game pitcher is? Andy Pettite when he was with the Yankees. August and Sept he was awesome. Talk is cheap, we can talk until we are blue in the face but until MB is in that situation then we'll find out if he's a real big game pitcher.
-
You're right nobody has a perfect starting staff. What I am saying is that the White Sox should not have signed El Do Nothing and went after either Perez, Clement, or Millwood. I know the change in leagues is a concern for all three of those pitchers. But they are better options than El Do Nothing (who was the cheaper option) And while I like to look forward and don't want to dwell on the past, why did the White Sox trade for Loiaza for Conty? Loiaza would have been a FA and the money saved from not signing him could have gone to a Pavano or though I'm not in favor of it, making a trade for Mulder or Hudson. The money freed up by Loiaza contract could have gone to signing Mulder and Hudson to long term contracts.

Are you serious? Alomar's numbers aren't HOF worthy? I suggest you look at those numbers again. He is HOF worthy. He is still batting 300 even after 2-4 off years. 371 obp, 443 slg for a secondman. Very good numbers that are HOF. Add to that the Gold Gloves, two World Series and you got a HOF. It will take awhile since the spitting incident will hurt him. Even though the umpire has to take some of the blame for putting gas on that fire.

I know I'm going to sound like the typical The Sky is Falling White Sox fan. But there is no way the projected starting 5 is a solid staff and/or ranks up there with the best in the AL. MB Garcia Conty Orlando Garland MB-While still young, he has never been asked to be the ace of a team that is still in the race at the end of the season. Can he handle the pressure? If the White Sox lose 2-3 games in a row can MB stop the streak when it matters? Think Pink Floyd Bannister. Great stats and stuff but when the pressure was on he wasn't the ace. The Druggy Hoyt was the ace and you could even make a case the Dotson was the real ace of the White Sox staffs. Garcia-has never been able to pitch as well as he did in 2001. Not a second half pitcher for most of his career. Conty-A bust with the Yankees and now the White Sox expect him to be a solid starter? El DoNothing-The more innnings he pitches the higher his ERA. He's coming off rotator cuff injury. He's about 40, no matter what he says and is getting older and more injury prone. Garland-A young kid who is running out of chances to become a solid major league starter. Can the top four pitchers, no matter who they are, win 80 games for the White Sox? Take any four and no combination has won 80 games. Even their best seasons. MB-19 wins, Garcia 19. El DoNothing-17 Garland 12, Conty-10. Remember take only four. And both El DoNothing and Conty do not have the Yankees run support to back them up. Or even the Yankees defense. I think the signing Hermanson was a good thing. He can fill many roles. If Shingo struggles then Dustin can become the closer. If Shingo continues his success as a closer, Dustin can be the set up man or if one of the starters falter he can set right in. I have some concerns about Shingo being able to continue his success. But I'm comfortable with him as the closer and seeing what happens. If I had to make a bet, I would bet he continues that success and is a quality closer.

At the time it happened and even more so now, this seems to be a case where the media blows things out of proportion. If Tomko asked AJ to go over hitters and AJ said let me finish this hand of cards. Well hell, at most it's only going to take 5 mins to finish a hand. Maybe Tomko got his panties all tied up and b****ed but really if that was the situation, is that really a big deal? I mean if AJ was getting treatment for an injury and a pitcher asked him to go over hitters, should he stop getting treatment? I'll admit AJ is one of those players you say is a jerk when he's on the other team but a great guy to ahve when he's on your team. And AJ certainly isn't the best defensive catcher. But he is better than anything the White Sox have currently. If he comes at a decent price, I would sign him.
-
You know what bad karma really is? So called fans who b**** and complain about every little stupid thing. I wished Kenny would have "Artested" that jerk who asked him at SoxFest last year "Now that 2004 is over, Can we talk about 2005" It's so called fans who b**** about the dumbest things like a goatee. f***, why are you even White Sox fans if everything they do makes you miserable? f*** be a Yankees fan or Red Sox or Marlins.

Did anyone know the Sox drafted Eric Gagne?
KittleWalk83 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ok let's figure this out. He was drafted in June of 94. In 95 he pitched for the Canada National Team. He signed with the Dodgers in July of 95. Where does that leave time for him to play hockey. If you say during the 94-95 school year, I believe he pitched for Seminole JC during the 94-95 school year. -

Nothing in Gagne's bio mentions that he played college hockey. It does say that in 95 he played for the Canadian National Baseball team and that in 97 he was recovering from Tommy John surgery. I can hear the b****ing now, why would the White Sox give that bum so much money and now he blows out his arm. f***ing brilliant. -

Buehrle was signed as a draft and follow. Meaning they White Sox drafted him the year before (98) and "followed" his junior college season and signed him in 99. Teams can do that with high school kids who go to a JC or JC freshmen. But once a kid goes to a four year school, he goes through the draft. Not sure exactly what happened with Gagne but he was drafted in 94 from a JC. Maybe the White Sox drafted him as draft and follow but since he didn't do well at his JC, the White Sox didn't bother to sign him? Hell nobody else drafted or signed him in 95 either since he signed with the Dodgers as an undrafted free agent. This is what is says on Buehrle's bio from the White Sox official site was recommended/signed by Nathan Durst and John Kazanas. Yes all scouts and GM's work under a budget given to them by the team owner. But to b**** and cry about a 30th round pick 10 years ago is just stupid. Think about this. The 28 teams back in 94 passed up Gagne 29 times EACH!!!! Some teams 30 times. Just brilliant scouting. -

Same typical bulls***. Gagne was considered a bust as a starter. I'm sure the "Sky is Falling" White Sox fan would have said trade the f***ing bum after his failure as a starter. Just look at that crap Joe Borchard and Willie Harris are going through after maybe 250 MLB at bats. Did you know that Baseball America thought that Luke Prokopec (sp) was considered a better prospect than Gagne? He was the guy traded to the Blue Jays. Did you know that Gagne has an eye problem? That's the reason for the glasses. Anybody who thinks a team lowballed a 34th round draft pick doesn't know s*** about the draft and signing players. It's the job of the scouts to sign the draft picks. Most 34round draft picks do not sign anyways. -
While there is no question Kaz didn't live up to the hype, can you say a guy is a bust after one season? I remember even after Ichrio had that awesome first season, there were questions if he could do it again. While his second season stats were not as good as his first season, it's clear he's a superstar. But whose to say that Kaz can't live up to the hype next season? If he bats 320, 15-20 hrs, 30 SB's etc he certainly wouldn't be a bust. Some guys, just like minor leaguers take awhile to adjust.

I always thought JM was a jerk. But most of his comments about the White Sox are true and I see the same things being said by White Sox fans on all message boards that I read. Hell I've seen some of the worst things said about JR by White Sox fans. I do think JM took his personal feud with Hawk a little too far.
-
I do agree that the MLB board is terrible. But then again WSI and this board are basically the same. People b****ing and complaining about how bad the White Sox are. How they made a terrible trade. What's that saying? Same s*** different message board?
