Those were two really good defenses. It's not surprising that he struggled against them. The Patriots defense really came alive in the playoffs. They gave Mahomes a ton of problems as well.
I think Goff losing Cooper Kupp and whatever happened to Todd Gurley down the stretch really threw him off of what he was doing well. Gurley has to be dealing with an injury, they keep saying he isn't, but there is no way else to explain how one of most dangerous offense weapons all the sudden looks like an average player.

I like how Jared Goff is not good now because of his bad Super Bowl game.

lol I forgot they hired Darrell Bevell.
Yeah, they are going to be a mess. They are getting close to being a complete rebuild.

Packers should have a interesting off season. Lot's of draft picks and room for free agents(with a GM who seems like he will acknowledge free agency exists).
Vikings and Bears will be limited by what they can do in free agency. Lions are the Lions.

We saw where that got them last year.

Easy 1-0 start for the Packers next year. 😉

Fighting over 154 vs 162, in my opinion, is a complete wasted effort.
I was thinking about cutting off closer to a month.
regular season - April - Sept.
Playoffs - Sept - Oct.
Something like that.

I agree. But definitely work on expanding the league first to 16 teams in each league so they can make a more balanced schedule before cutting off say 2 weeks of the season.
I think it's going to be a tough sell for owners to just drop a bunch of games off the season.
You would have to sell them on the idea that you might not have as many games, but chances of making the playoffs is easier and those games will be highly popular games and big sellers and good tv ratings.
I think the other thing they need to do is have less day playoff games. I think they are the only sport that still does that.

I don't think baseball needs to shorten games as much as it needs a shorter season. Not that making shorter games won't help, but I think a shorter season and a longer playoffs would make things more exciting.

It was one of the more exciting nfl seasons and it ended with a thud, especially after these teams had such flukey plays that allowed them to make the game.
Yeah, I think with there being a lot of wild games this year, people were kinda of hoping for that.
We were all thinking this game is boring and we could of had Chiefs vs Saints, which probably would have been crazy.
Oh well, now it's draft season. I will now read 700 pointless mock drafts.

It's amazing what the Patriots have done and all, but I just don't want to see them in the Super Bowl for a while. I don't hate them, but it's just boring.
That was also the Patriots largest margin of victory in a Super bowl. 10 points.

It's amazing that he only missed 6 games in his career and 4 of those were in the first year.

I don't even know how to comprehend -50 degrees. It's going to be so cold.

Let's all be honest and say if it was your team, none of you would be "moving on". This is a big time missed call and is the reason the Saints and Brees probably never see a Super Bowl again/for a long time.
Unless Brees play really falls off they should be a pretty good team again next year.

I don't know if it should be here or in the 2019 movies, but the documentary on the Fyre Festival on Netflix was wild. So many awful people just being insanely stupid.

Well, he was like the 5th option for QB.

They better not introduce replay for penalties. Just rewrite the pass inference rules to something that makes sense. The spirit of the rule has been lost, that's why it's become so controversial.
Pass inference exists so defenders don't tackle WR while the ball is in the air. It is not meant to be a get-out-of-jail-free card for offenses. If they want to legislate contact and hand fighting make it separate foul, akin the defensive holding, and leave the spot foul for plays where receivers are running unabated and just wind up being dragged to the ground.
Lost in all this controversy is the fact that pass probably would not have been completed anyways. It was designed to draw a penalty. Is that the kind of football we want?
There should be a major pass interference and a minor.
I think that pass was going to be caught, the WR was turned and going to make a play for the ball and the CB from the Rams pretty much tackled him before he could.

I don't know the general consensus of Tony Romo, but he was on fire yesterday. Probably the most impressive performance by a color commentator I have ever heard for an NFL game. He was calling plays like Doug Collins used to do in his prime NBA commenting ysars.
He is great. I think he is doing the Super Bowl, so that should be awesome.
Breaking down plays and telling us what might happen and he is having a good time doing it. It was like night and day between Aikman and Buck, who I like and think are a good pair, but Romo just gets so into it.

Don’t know if this has been mentioned, but the CFL allows you to challenge PI calls
I think they have been doing it for a while.
The NFL could base the system off that and mess around with it in preseason.

Well you can keep the same number of challenges, 2-3, but make PI a reviewable call, under the same rules - it must be clear and obvious or whatever the language was. Technically you could do it for a few other penalties too (Personal fouls, maybe even holding), but if the coach is limited to just a couple challenges then you're not going to pile up the reviews all that much. In fact you might even get fewer as if I were a coach in a close game I would do everything humanly possible to make sure that, if there was a clearly wrong call with 3:00 remaining in the game, I could get it overturned.
That might be the best way to go about it. If they do that they should give coaches at least one more challenge flag. The rules should make it clear that it has to be obvious DPI like we saw yesterday.
-
I have no idea how that official missed that. Sean Payton should have been able to challenge that.
Also, with OT being a big issue. I think in the playoffs they should just play an extra 10 minute quarter.

Still in awe of that blown DPI in the Saints game.
It was so bad that I think it might actually result in a change of rules. Like the Jerry Rice fumble in the playoffs that created instant replay.
I don't know if they can make every play reviewable, the games could be like 6 hours long, but maybe they could have some in the booth that can check a replay quick and alert the official if they missed something.

Kind of sick of seeing New England in the Super Bowl, but at least you know it will be a close game and probably have a wild ending.

At least in MLB/NHL/NBA it's a longer series so there are more ups and downs but it can still be more fulfilling, even in a loss. In the NFL, you get so excited about your season and then it suddenly all comes down to 3 hours.
NFL playoffs feel like just one long sudden death overtime. Every score has so much weight to it.

Mahomes had a nice end in that playoff game, but they gave him problems most of the game. I think he only had 50 some yards in the first half and only completed 50% of his passes total.
