  1. This is (1) a good thing for the White Sox

    but also

    (2) part of a growing reputation where we are great at getting the cheap extension done

"I am fantastic at getting straight A's in all my summer school remedial courses."  that's what kind of praise that is

Perhaps we should all simply wait to see what transpires, before we draw any conclusions, or engage in any more hyperbole. I'm not defending the front office, but I'm not ready to grab my torch and pitch fork, either. I'm not privy to any of the real details, regarding their intentions, or strategies and I am pretty sure that no one else here is, either. We'll see what happens, then we can all offer our fair and reasonable critiques.

No pitchforks, but this does signal that we are not serious on being anything but a Tampa type team that maybe could spend some more one day, but it's now confirmed we wont be market setters to blow away other offers.  With our payroll very low we had set ourselves up for the first time to get someone elite, and it purely came down to money that we didn't.  We can't pretend we didnt want him, because we acquired Dennis & Carl Wilson for DH and OF spots, to the tune of 13M of payroll.

We have to be a prospect hoarding team that will then get the Lackey or maybe Lester type signings to round out a title contender........but it now is clear we will get our superstars internally or nowhere else.

All I ask at this point is no more win-now trades. Just lose, lose, lose until you're out of this thing and have some more high 1st round guys stockpiled

  3. i'm here for the long haul but just run this thing like a Tampa. Pile prospects. Know what you are. If the no-opt-outs thing is true, what were we even doing here. Dont take us there.

Cespedes/Gordon - we wanted those guys. I am fine with finishing second with some reasoning behind the restraint. But when the prospects are in place, and you have the real core identified and set like the Cubs and Stros did, then you do the free agent signings (even if not high profile like this one) and you land them on the green with no questions asked.

The one argument for No Manny that makes sense is that next year was not going to be a window year, and you were always going to have an opt out come into play, thus making Year 1 pointless

  4. I think it is right to dislike Kenny for various things he has done in the past, but as far as today, I'm basically seeing someone who looks legitimately blindsided. If he found out from a tweet while Hahn was being notified by the agent, then really what was KW even a part to, here? At all? Hahn runs things. Ownership sets financial limits.

If the Sox sign manny, we should all just get up from our desks and leave work and head to Shoeless Joes to drink and celebrate

I guess I live...near this?  I've moved to near Rosemont, but i have never heard of this place...This is a Sox-centric bar of some sort, i take it?
