QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) I could have sworn he was struggling before he got hurt. He was struggling before he went on the DL, but he was trying to play through the pain for like 2 weeks before they finally told him to sit his ass down.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) I think he's healthy. He's just worn down from the season, and has lost a step. It has to be more than that, th is all started when he got hurt

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) against baker, yes it's absolutely pathetic. only bench players i wanna see thou are anderson and borchard. Again...how bad have things gotten that we're actually hoping Joe Borchard can be our savior? Good 1-2-3 inning to end the night for Garland. NOW SOMEONE GET HIM A f***ING RUN. OR 12.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 06:52 PM) So basically no 1st pitch grounders to 1st, no blown saves against KC, and no 5+ era. And also no 17 wins for Garland, maybe no ERA around 2 for Politte or Cotts, and do you really want to go back to the 5th starter we had last year...Mr. Off day? You guys think our pitchers are overworked now, what would have happened had they not gotten extra days of rest on off days?

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 06:49 PM) Gotcha, I agree. Everett's at least swinging the bat better now. Ozzie has got to put PK back in the 4th spot immediately. I don't think you'll find a person here who will disagree. Let's just hope we haven't put Konerko into another May by moving him around.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 06:49 PM) What this offense would look like with Carlos Lee instead of Pods. No AJ, No Hermanson, No 5th starter for 1/2 of the year.

The guy leading the AL in infield hits can't get a bunt down for us, and the catcher gets one down for the Twins.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) Sweeney flies out to RF 1 out Stairs up Seriously...if Sweeney never got to play against us, he'd never have gotten a big contract and he'd never have played in the AS Game.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) Wasn't he pretty awful before that? He had a streak of like 22 in a row succesfully stolen that ended in early July...right before these struggles began. He stole 2 in the first game back from the break...but after that Cleveland sweep ended...he's just fallen apart on the basepaths.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 06:38 PM) Our offense is just not that good. If our pitching and Defense doesn't step it up were going to be looking at a humiliating offseason. Frighteningly, our offense is actually not that bad, we're still like 12th or 13th in the league in runs scored. Not the Red Sox, but certainly not terrible. The problem with our offense is that it is still hugely home-run driven...we're 3rd in teh AL in home runs, which is the antethisis of what Ozzie ball was supposed to be. We've been surprisingly bad this season at manufacturing runs against good pitching. When you look at a team like the Angels, who have scored virtually the same number of runs as us, they've done it with far fewer home runs, but a lot more base hits. Our guys are swinging for the fences. When pitchers throw balls that they can hit, it works like dynamite. But when the pitcher moves things around and keeps our guys off balance, they look really bad, because they just have not been good at manufacturing things.
