  1. For home protection get a shotgun. Mossberg or Remington 870 would be perfect. Won't go through walls, great effect and it's a billion times easier to aim if you actually need to use it. You don't want to go pouring 9mm rounds through drywall, that's how bad things happen.

If you absolutely must go handgun I very highly recommend the .45 Sig. I own one myself, lovely little thing.

  2. I agree wholeheartedly and I think Chinese kids would greatly benefit from reading those books, but I cannot imagine the Chinese government would be pleased with those ideas being planted in young minds. They would probably displeased enough to sequester them from society in whatever neo-gulag situation they have there for the mentally awakened.

  3. Wait, how is that reasonable in states where women have really restrictive abortion options or where abortions are de facto illegal or unobtainable? The woman doesn't have the "opt out" ability in that circumstance, but a man would. It only becomes arguably reasonable if women have at least as long as men to decide and widespread, affordable and easily accessible access to abortion.

I hate the fundies as much as you do, FYI.

  4. I actually agree.

But if you choose to have the child, you then cant retroactively assert your "abortion right".

    IE

A man within 90 days of learning he has a child may use his "abortion" option. He will have no responsibilities to the child, nor any rights to the child.

    Seems fair.

100% agree. Totally reasonable, especially with all the crappy state laws that give women like 10 hours to decide whether or not to abort.

  5. This still makes literally zero sense in the context of planned, wanted children conceived in a committed relationship, in this case a marriage. They both wanted kids, and then later they got divorced.

I mean even in the context where the argument is at least applicable it's still terrible and misses the whole point, but it's just not relevant here.

Well this is obviously a case of rich dude paying for laws that benefit him. Sounds like every law in this country (begging the obvious question....).

But hey, explain to me why in the context of an "accident" the man has to be stuck with the woman's decision. If you want to ban abortions, fine that works because its consistent. You also can't appeal to pregnancy, 9 months of suck does not entitle one to 18 years of someone else's money. Both parents decide, its the only fair option.

(As a man not supporting this is like being black and supporting Jim Crow)

  6. Record speed you two! Both sarcastic one-liners too.

If a woman can choose not to have a child a man should be able to make the same choice. Right? Equality is something you guys still like, correct?

Either that or you ban abortions. Then it'll make sense because both people have their hands tied.

I prefer the let people abort option personally, less kids = happier Duke.

  7. Then stop using the roads.

Whether or not I do this job that is not a choice I reasonably have. Besides I feed your beast a decent percentage of my income so I might as well get some tangible benefit out of it before it all starts going to welfare.

  8. How can I be a daring, brave individualist in this painfully weak, boring, terrified country? Its not even possible. Of course I'm none of those things and never advertise myself as them because your toxic ideology has poisoned everything.

I just want to be left alone. Not told what to do or who to give my money to or "what's worth it"; I want to make those judgments myself. That's all I really ever ask for with very limited exceptions.

  9. http://archive.gao.gov/f0302/109884.pdf

One 18 wheeler at 80,000 pounds wears on the roads as much 9600 cars. Is your tax burden 9600 times higher?

I'm happy (again as a person whose life has depended on the trucking industry) that the general public supports the highway system.

Rail releases "studies" like this all the time. CSA, HoS, theyve been aggressively targeting the trucking industry for about 20 years now. Its all bulls***. Besides that almost entirely deals with oversized loads, I never go heavy and if I do I have to get permits for it that are not cheap.

  10. Those are two quite different statements. You get a lot from the state you haven't paid for. You get hundreds of miles of roads that have been constructed using other people's tax dollars. Those roads cost billions of dollars and you have in no sense paid for all of them. You pay for a portion of the damage you do to the roads, but not nearly the full thing. The federal gas tax only brings in about $25 billion in revenue, while the annual highway bill spending is over $50 billion (and should be twice that just to do the deferred maintenance on most of the roads).

Oh and you also get to dump garbage through your tailpipe into the air that all of us have to breathe and I get to cough as punishment.

I dont use gas, maybe you mean fuel. Even then, fuel taxes only account for $25 billion? f***ing ONLY? How blood drunk off government money are you? Motherf***er that's half the budget right there.

I also burn cleaner than a ca due to something called regens that I barely understand unless they break me down (they do that a lot). Again, you don't know what you are talking about. Tailpipe? What? Have you seen a truck or do you just stare at rocks in your basement wondering what the outside world is like?

But hey, to settle this once and for all because I'm utterly sick of you thinking you "got me" because of my job.

    1) They most I ever hear about your employment is you b****ing that you didn't get enough public funds to sit on your ass. Or youre just whining about income and what other people have but you can't earn. You want to make occupation fair play? Let's do it, let's see how much more you do than your average unemployed twit living off the dole. "But Duke, we need geologists and stuff" yea we do, we need a lot of them which begs the question why the f*** are you so whiny all the damn time?

My guess, you don't want to go work for Halliburton or whoever because they'll make you work while waiting for that big grant to come through or blowing other similarly useless academics is generally no-work for little-pay. That's why you're such a gimme gimme little brat about other peoples money. That's why you want free s*** all the damn time. Because you cant/won't/are too lazy to work. I don't think there's all that much to my job, but I do know you couldn't do it for a day. So until the time comes where you can say you actually create something that isn't a study, theory or idea you can go ahead and shut up about what I do.

Don't cry foul now, you brought my job into it now I'm doing the same.

    2) The only reason I do what I do is because it is demanded by the general population. Don't complain about a trucks exhaust fumes then go to the supermarket and buy a fish from Washington. I may have been the one who actually drove it but I am not the one who demands things be shipped thousands of miles because "they want them". All this that you're saying, its me who wrecks the roads and needs the government and pollutes the air--its not me, asshole. If I wasn't driving this crap around someone else would be because you are all so hopelessly addicted to stuff you need it fed to you daily by 53 ft long, 13.5 foot tall trucks carrying 20 tons of crap for you to shove down your gullet.

Do not even try to pin the reckless, wasteful attitudes towards consumption on me when I live in a closet about 4 feet away from my office and generally travel to places where things are made to buy them as opposed to sitting on my ass while an entire industry of millions works 24/7 to provide needless tons of useless s*** to satisfy my addiction.

  11. Next time its prudent I'm going to say some really ignorant s*** about geology I gleaned from an article I barely remember reading. Then I'm going to use that ignorant s*** to make a personal judgment about you. When you become frustrated with the level of ignorance and just give up I will come back with that same ignorance whenever I feel like it because I will be mistaking conceding out of exhaustion with actually winning the argument.

  12. You're paying $600 million a year in taxes? I congratulate you sir.

The % of the transportation budget I contribute exceeds the % of wear I put on the roads. Hence the initial claim "I don't get anything from the state I don't pay for 3 times over."
