  1. Wave good-bye to that double digit lead, folks. It gone.

If I'm the NL, I live in fear of the Cubs right now. That team is headed to the postseason, I fear. Derek Lee continues to tear the cover off the ball, the lineup will only get better with the return of Garciapara, Wood and Prior have returned, and, most amazingly, they got two top-notch pitching prospects in exchange for a steaming pile of ****.

Don't think their GM is done doing highway robbery with trades either.

  2. But not really...

I'm not claiming that Antonio Osuna was the second coming of anyone except a solid bullpen arm; I'm just saying that he's not to be needlessly insulted.

The Sox could use another Osuna in the bullpen this season in place of Vizcaino. Both Contreras and Hernandez have the capability, in my view, to become solid long relievers who will make us forget the name of Antonio Osuna, but first we need some starting help. That's Kenny's job right now.

  3. This from a guy with a screenname from a mediocre middle reliever... :bang

Antonio Osuna helped this team out big time twice: once by stepping up into the closer's role when a hole opened up there, and once by getting traded to the Yankees in the deal that sent us Bartolo Colon.

His contributions to this ballclub should not be underestimated.

  4. el conde and el duque are just not getting it done anymore; they've fallen back to Earth after amazing starts. For all we know, Garland will do the same before too long; I'm certainly hoping he won't, but let's assume worst-case scenario.

We need 3-4 aces to both lock up the division and go deep into the playoffs. Buerhle and Garcia are passable in that role; Garland might be, but let's not count on him just We need Schmidt, badly.

  5. You know what's the best part of being 50-22? I don't have to worry about the Sox losing this one with me in attendance. If any Cub fan tries to give me crap walking out of the park, I can simply point out the record.

I've always dreaded Cubs/Sox games that I attend, because the Sox are undefeated in those. I never want that streak to end. I think today it will. But, this year, and this year alone, I can live with it.

  6. I can see ABOZ's point though.  Its water under the bridge in a 12-2 rout.  Its not like he went out and got hurt or something.  Then there MIGHT be a reason for a thread like this.

I'd rather win 12-4 and then have a strong bullpen available tomorrow than win 12-2 and have a short outing from Contreras force us to have to use a tired or questionable reliever in a close game tomorrow.

  7. That ball went right back onto the field after being called a homer; was it a doinker off the post, did it hit the concrete, did it bounce out of somebody's hands, or did it just go straight to a Cub fan with quick release?

I'm honestly curious. Hawk never explained, but I imagine Farmer did. Anyone who took that inning in on the radio willing to share?

  8. I'd argue that Shingo is more in need of work than Cotts at this point; I don't believe that's a controversial view.

Shingo in the 8th, Vizcaino in the 9th after Baker brought in the minor leaguers would have resulted perhaps a few more runs for the national league ballclub in this game, but it'd still count the same in the standings.

  9. Why did Ozzie put in Cotts in a blowout? We had Shingo and Vizcaino available (Luis was used later), and the former has been improving as of late.

The other two games aren't going to be this close; the services of Mr. Cotts will undoubtly be needed, particularly tomorrow. Would it not be wiser to perhaps give up a few useless runs and have a fully rested Cotts available?

  10. Oswalt is the best of those up there, I think, and we're the best fit with Houston in terms of what they might want.

Anderson, Sweeney, Fields, BMac, take your pick. Send them all packing if you have to. We want a championship, not prospects.
