QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) I would love to play the Yankees...there is no confendence with any of their players...and they are performing below their capabilities. Either team could get a boost after winning.....but i think the fact that they have to play tomorrow and have wasted their #1's for the series doesn't do s*** in reality. So I really wouldn't mind playing either team......BUT I'd still prefer the Yanks I like our chances against both teams at this point. But I think playing the YAnkees would step the Sox's game up to another level. Especially at Yankee stadium.......Not to mention it would be more exciting to watch

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) Bases juiced and they're gonna leave RJ in there. Halo's can put em away right here. I hope not. I'd like to see The Angels burn up some of their bp, before they come here

I'd bring in Gordon to face Cabrera

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) LOL Dude had barely left second base when Giambi got to the ball and he still went to 1st. That was rich. The Yanks D has been brutal tonite all around. I'm we get to play them
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) Halo's are threatening again against Johnson........nobody down and 2 on base. Giambi is BRUTAL at 1st

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) FOX has to be sobbing larger then life right about now - because their ratings just went right in the s***ter. I'm sobbing. I really wanted to see us face the Yanks. Hopefully they can make a comeback

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) Thats assuming that Bartolo is ok, too. Bart has had back problems most of the 2ndhalf, and it appears to be getting worse. I would HIGHLY doubt he will pitch in the ALCS and probably the WS, if they make it, for that matter. Either way were sitting VERY pretty.

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) I can see a situation where the Sox would bring Marte in (to face a guy he's owned in the past like G. Anderson). I see no reason to have Viz on the roster over McCarthy. The thing about lefty pitchers is that it's not always about how they are vs lefty batters. Sometimes, it's the opposite of that which is important. Some lefty hitters lose a lot of power when they have to face other lefties due to changes in their swings, as well as turning some switch hitters over. Isn't Chone a lot better against righties? Don't come in here and start making sense, it's a waste of time.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) That's all YOUR opinion yet you think "we all can agree that Marte is better than Viz" despite the stats (i.e. FACTS) saying otherwise. Why not McCarthy over Marte? Is it Viz's fault that Hermanson, Politte, and Jenks have been this good this year? Would you rather have Marte s*** his pants in a clutch situation or have Viz do a better job than Marte when he is called upon? You haven't anwered any of my questions, so I'll just move along. Viz's job is long relief correct? Well W/ McCarthy and El Duque on the roster that leaves him w/ no role other than BP thrower. Now Marte's role should be, if Cotts is unavailable, "Try to get a tough LH out, who can't hit Lh's well, but pound's Rh's". And that's it. If he can't get the guy out, Oz should take HIM out. Period
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Why McCarthy instead over Marte? I want McCarthy and Vizcaino in the bullpen. Marte can stay home. If we have McCarthy what's the point in having Viz? To throw Bp? You might as well include Gload on the roster instead.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) Way to back up your claim. I think I'm really wasting my time with you Mr. Marte Jr. I like what Marte brings over Viz. Period. I still think Marte will get a huge out for us. I have no faith in Viz to do anything.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) How did I know this would come up? I don't recall saying I wanted Viz as the lefty specialist. You guys want Marte as the second lefty man because he is lefthanded. I have shown you that there are 4 RHP better than Marte at getting lefties out. What is Marte's use again? Vizcaino can eat up innings, that is the only time I expect to see him in the playoffs (like the Braves-Astros game on right now.) Marte is completely worthless. VS. RHP: Marte: .817 OPS Viz: .692 OPS difference: .125 VS. LHP: Marte: .767 Viz: .857 difference: .090 Overall OPS: Marte: .791 Viz: .762 Viz > Marte It's not like I want to see Viz pitch. I rather see both of them not pitch, but I'm a 100% sure that if Marte is on the roster, Ozzie will use his s***ty ass because the batter is left handed. Why not McCarthy instead of Viz??????

Marte>Viz. McCarthy>Viz. End of story.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) That's been damaso's speciality this year. No he usually get's the er. The other day he got lucky.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) Hooray for him having a better era then Marte this season and being pretty damn good after the allstar break. Hooray for Viz being able to come in in no pressure situations, and lowering that era. And then when he gets into a mess, another reliever bailing him out.
-
I think we can all agree Viz and Marte don't get the job done, but IMO Viz is more worthless. I just want to know why McCarthy was left of the roster in favor of Viz??????? :banghead :headshake
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) OPS against LH batters Jenks: .414 McCarthy: .602 Politte: .579 Hermanson: .721 Marte: .767 So much for being a lefty specialist. Keeping Marte off the roster will prevent Ozzie from making the mistake of using Marte against a left hander. We have 4 right handers who are better than Marte against left handers. Tell me again why we must have Marte ready if a left hander steps up? Where's Viz? Oh i forgot, he can't get Lh's or Rh's out. He's Great. :rolly
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) Do I know the reason? No. BUT, do I see time and time again he goes to Marte over Cotts? Yes. Ozzie knows a LOT more baseball than I. And, I'm just going to take a guess here, a LOT more baseball than you. He goes to him time and time again for a reason. He has ALL the information you are PRIVY to and MORE and he STILL goes to the worse statistical pticher of the two. Why? He was saving Cotts for the 8th or 9th if Ortiz came up w/ a chance to win the game. He obviously didn't trust his other relivers to get him out. Including Jenks

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) Cliff, Dustin, Bobby, the Duke. Where's Viz?
-
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) That's a weak argument, at best. It's much easier to pitch w/ no pressure, and guys swinging for the fences every ab.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) I meant if those two are the last two left in the bullpen then I want viz out there for an inning much more then I want damaso out there for an inning. Viz's splits against lefties are definitely not good, Damaso's suck as well though. This is the playoffs. There is no need for Viz whatsoever in a close game. Don't forget that you can use starter's in relief if necessary. Viz's only use to me is mopup, and McCarthy should fill that role.
-
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) And goes W, H, W. What's your point? Viz's #'s are better in the 2nd half, because he came in when the game was basically over. NO pressure. Hence much better #'s.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) I could've sworn I just saw someone post the second half splits of Marte and Viz in response to one of your posts. Did you miss it? Marte is f***ing terrible. Marte comes in in Big situations. Viz is always mopping up.
