  1. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:24 PM)
    Well Miggy Cabrera is even worse defensively and their offense is similar. So besides Eric Chavez and Scott Rolen its hard to find a 3B that is definitely better than him. Take A-Rod out of New York and he would be probably but he probably would be a SS too though.

    Miggy is maybe a better pure hitter but not by much and less power also worse defensively. Ryan Zimmerman is definitely better defensively but he isnt as much of a threat with the bat as Miggy or Wright. Also I think all 3 are better than Chipper Jones now.

    Cabrera is actually better than Wright defensively. Cabrera is the 5th best defensive 3B in the NL, Wright is near the bottom. Thats according to Baseball Prospectus. As far as conventional stats, they are equal in errors with Cabs having more chances, Cabs has a .955 F% to Wrights .953, Cabs has a 2.63 range factor to Wrights 2.47, and .744 zone rating to Wrights .742. Cabs also has a better arm.

    And I'd venture to guess that Cabrera is a much better hitter than Wright.

    Cabs: .336/.430/.554 this year, .308/.380/.529 career

    Wright: .314/.388/.552 this year, .306/.377/.533 career

    Cabs has a higher slg% despite 5 fewer homeruns, and Cabs also has much less protection. Wright K's more and walks less.

    As for my comparisson of Wright to Zimmerman, Zimmerman is putting up the same stats that Wright did at the same age. And he plays better defense.

    Cabs is also younger by 5 months, and has almost 700 more at bats. He was a 20 year old rookie in a pennant race, which has skewed his stats somewhat.

    I really don't think you can put Wright on there, that kid is a developing star.

    Well, I am a Marlins fan remember. But anyway, I saw Wright listed as the 3rd best hitter in baseball...he's not even the best hitter in the NL East, but he's the best hitter in baseball. ESPN is a shrine to him.

    I think Wright will make a few all star teams. But, in terms of skill and potential, Ryan Zimmerman looks to be the exact same player. Except Zimmerman plays good defense, something Wright does not.

    He gets protection from a great lineup. But still, any day of the week, there are more than a few 3B I'd take over David Wright.

  3. Overrated: Player-(now remember I live in Cardinal land)David Eckstein. All I hear is how he is elite defensively and any team would give up their SS and more for Eckstein. Jeter is up there as well, and David Wright is approaching Jeter levels of overrated ness.

    Manager-Tony LaRussa. Even if I wasn't in Cardinal land, I'd think this. He makes a hell of alot of stupid decisions, cant win in the postseason, and his win total is only up there because he gets handed great teams every year.

    GM-Probably Cashman.

    Underrated:

    Player-either Carl Crawford or Lance Berkman.

    Manager-Clint Hurdle. Doing good things with the Rockies.

    GM-Dave Dombrowski and Larry Beinfest. D.D. is doing great things with the Tigers right now and was also a big part of the 2003 Fish WS team. Beinfest has taken the passed torch from D.D., and got an exciting group of baseball players for vets over 30 and making too much money, turning a group of rookies making $15 million total into wild card contenders.

    You my friend... are a god send! :headbang

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^

    Even though Fop and Dougly are very, very close.

    This is the only message board I have never posted drunk on. Just wait. It will happen. I average about 5-6 drunk posts a week on other boards.

    So, by your definition, I am the best poster in soxtalk history.

  5. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:12 PM)
    If B-Mac was that dominant, he would have shown it in the pen. He has nice stats, but right now he is more important to the White Sox in the pen than in the starting rotation. Some times guys like B-Mac become relievers, but on the White Sox he is the 6th best starter, and therefore needs to be in the pen.

    Some, if not most, guys who have been conditioned to start for pretty much their entire wont be much more than average out of the pen.

  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:53 PM)
    and I'd be shocked if Delhomme, who has been incosistent his whole career, is good again in 2006.

    He hasn't been inconsistent. His QB ratings have been in the 80s every year since he became a starter(80.6-2003, 87.3-2004, 88.1-2005), same for completion %(59.2-2003, 58.2-2004, 60.2-2005). The only big discrepency he has had has been tds(19, 29, 24), and his INT #s are 16, 15, 16. He is consistent across the board. What might be most staggering is that Steve Smith was the best WR in the NFL last year and Jake D's TD total actually went down.

    Jake Delhomme to surprise this year and have a career year maybe?

    I'd actually say since he became a full time starter he has been one of the top 5 QBs in the league.

    Before Drew Brees came to NO, Delhomme has been far and away the best QB in the NFC South. I guess that doesnt really say much since Brooks and Vick are two of the worst QBs in the game, but still. Brees and Delhomme's #s were identical last year.

    And in the playoffs, Delhomme is money(except last year when he had only one weapon in Smith). With Foster AND Williams now, plus the addition of MeShawn(I also like Hartwig @ C over Mitchell).

    I'm not saying he wont have a career year, which he really could. Just saying he has been consistently great for a while now.

  7. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:24 AM)
    I calm down my complaints a bit now because truthfully, Brandon has become our best reliever besides Jenks but it was criminally dumb to go into the season and trade away Chris Young to not use Brandon in the rotation. Clearly he was ready. It's so late in the year that I have given up hope of Mac starting. Its too bad too because Javy Vazquez could have become a dominant 2 inning power reliever down the stretch that would have been Zumaya-like

    So the Sox traded for Vasquez...a guy who last year put up a 4.42 ERA and 1.25 WHIP primarily against the worst division in baseball(the NL West)...so McCarthy wouldn't get to start?

    That doesn't make any sense, espicially when you figure Vasquez has...at best...been average for his career yet sucked most of the time.

    It was also criminally dumb to trade Young for Vasquez in the first place.

  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 05:45 AM)
    Yeah I would just jump at either of those 2 deals for.

    Don't really know why Florida would do it though MarlinFan. I mean you guys have got so many good young pitchers, and if you wanted a Garcia like pitcher, you could just try and make that sort of signing in FA, and then deal those young pitchers for some help in the lineup possibly?

    Well, basicially, IMO...we have alot of young pitchers(as close as you can get to too many...our low A rotation is made up of 1st rounders), we can deal for Garcia for one year, offer him arby, and get the picks he brings back and signs elsewhere.

    Then, in 2008, Marceaux, Sinkbeil, Jose Garcia, or someone else can take his place in the rotation. So why sure we dealt Nolasco and another, but we are likely to get two picks back.

  9. I'd actually do Nolasco and Petit or Vargas if some of Garcias enormous salary could be paid.

    Just think...much like Garland...another SP the Cubs had and discarded that would do nice things for you guys.

    This has double effect...it helps take out the logjam on SP we have(not that its a bad thing...but our stud SP prospects gotta get a chance sometime), and we'll get draft picks for Garcia.

  10. I'd trade Vargas and Petit for Garcia. Might not be enough to get him, but a veteran for one year, next year, with playoff experience when we could hopefully contend would suit me fine.

    Actually

    Sox are apparently willing to deal him if they get an established reliever and young pitching prospect in return. They also seem to be open to dealing Javier Vazquez if absolutely needed. Mets are not interested in moving Duaner Sanchez and Mike Pelfrey for him, but could deal Aaron Heilman. Dodgers interested and the White Sox would want Jonathan Broxton. Garcia, meanwhile, would date to end up in New York.
