  1. It might be different because we do not have all the information they have at their disposal, nor do we have the expertise.   I personally think Ozzie is smarter than every poster on here.  Why?  Because he 20 years experience around ml/ML ballparks.  You are bound to pick up something by being around that long.  Then, sitting and talking with guys like Jack KcKeon, who's been doing for 50 years or so.

Contrary to popular belief, we do not have all the answers.  Ozzie could, in a baseball conversation, probably make you or me look like idiot inside of 5 minutes if he so desired.

Most likely, but it doesn't take a genious to know that a guy like Freddy Garcia pitches much better on the road than at the Cell. You can tell that just by watching his starts this season.

  2. I would think so.  But, when they start brainstorming on this, they may come up with something entirely different.

Yeah, I don't see how anyone could come up with anything different. It's pretty much common sense. Both Buehrle and Garland are groundball pitchers, therefore you start them at our bandbox known as the Cell. Freddy and El Duque are flyball pitchers so you start them on the road at ballparks that will most likely be worse hitter's parks than the Cell. Everyone knows how good Freddy is on the road and how mediocre he is at the Cell. Just look at these guys' splits and it's obvious what Ozzie should do.

  3. The yankees and Red Sox have prospects??

This thread has gone on long enough.  If you want to cite specifics, then fine. I already named teams that have brought up rookies and not played them full time.  Cinci, TB, Cubs, Sox, Det, LA, Sea, Min among others.  In some cases the rookies have played themselves into starting roles.  But in some cases they rotate days playing with others.  If you want to argue your one-tracked view on the issue, PM me, because im not looking at this old thread anymore to see other paragraph about your "expert" opinion on player development.

    Yankees: Robinson Cano

    Red Sox: Jon Papelbon

    :huh

Cano came in and started at 2nd base for the Yankees right upon his callup, replacing Tony Womack. Papelbon has started 3 games for the Red Sox and is now pitching out of their bullpen with the return of Schilling to their rotation. Both players are performing extremely well for their respective teams and both moves look pretty damn good right about now.

  4. Let's just agree to disagree.  I'm not changing my mind and I'm sure you won't either.

By the way, are you Hawk Harrelson? Would you rather have Aaron Rowand over Ken Griffey?

But seriously, have you been watching Crede at the plate the past two seasons? I just don't see how anyone could defend him. His bat is so bad that he is a defensive replacement in my mind. I would never wish injury on anyone but sadly, if Crede is hurt and Blum replaces him full-time at 3rd base it would actually be an improvement to the bottom of our lineup.

Joe Crede: .251 career AVG | .300 career OBP

Geoff Blum: .253 career AVG | .316 career OBP

And Blum was brought here to be a BACKUP 3rd baseman!

  5. Bellhorn was cut.  THIS season.

So because Bellhorn was DFA'ed, that somehow makes Crede better? Give me a break. Crede has worse stats than Neifi freaking Perez. If Crede was on almost any other team than the Sox he damn sure wouldn't be starting with a .239 AVG / .299 OBP last season and a .232 AVG / .285 OBP this season. Those are just godawful numbers to be putting up as a 3rd baseman. Saying that Bellhorn was cut THIS season over and over again doesn't make Crede any better.

  6. Has Crede ever had a season which caused him to basically be cut?

LOL, Crede's past two seasons have been horrible enough that he wouldn't be starting on most teams in the MLB. His defense is the only thing saving him. Most guys with a career .251 AVG and career .300 OBP are bench players. Just to put that into perspective, Neifi Perez owns a career .270 AVG and a career .300 OBP. Yes, Neifi Perez is a better hitter than Joe Crede. How pathetic is that? :puke

  7. If Bellhorn is so good, why in the hell was DFA'd by Boston?  That speaks for itself, I believe.

Bellhorn got injured with a sprained thumb and struggled to hit so he was placed on the DL. The Red Sox traded for Tony Graffanino as a replacement and he is currently playing way above his head so they have no need for Bellhorn now. Look at Bellhorn's stats last season for Boston. They also speak for itself. Bellhorn does not possess the glove that Crede has but he is damn sure better at the plate. Crede couldn't sniff the OBP that Bellhorn can put up.

  8. "I don't know if his finger is broken or not, but we would miss him defensively," White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko said. "He's been playing like a Gold Glover. The last couple of games he hasn't had much to show for it, but he's starting to swing the bat. It looks like he's about to get hot."

    :rolly

Perez, who gets more loyalty from his manager than a .230 hitter with 14 runs batted in deserves, made Guillen look awfully good. He drove in the winning run with a single to left field—looking like Ichiro Suzuki in slow motion—eight innings after he had saved the day for starter Jon Garland.

    :headshake :puke

"I've got to play Timo," Guillen said. "Timo's got experience. Timo's been in this position. I'm not going to see if [Anderson] can play or not. I'm not using him, not against right-handed pitchers. Timo's going to be in the lineup."

Ozzie sounds exactly like Dusty Baker talking about Neifi Perez and why he won't play young guys like Ronny Cedeno and Matt Murton.

  9. I am very glad we didn't rush him in but eased him in in preparation of a future closers job which is imminent. Awesome job by the Organization of doing this...I hope he turns out ot be our K-Rod.

Just think if the Angels had actually kept both Bobby Jenks and Derrick Turnbow. Their bullpen could have been even more ridiculous than it already is...

    Brendan Donnelly

    Scot Shields

    Bobby Jenks

    Derrick Turnbow

    Francisco Rodriguez

    That would have been sick.

  10. How is Sean Burroughs at 3rd? Maybe a change of scenery will do him good. Insurance if Crede continues to falter.

He is supposed to have Gold Glove potential at 3rd base. The main shot at him is that he has shown no power. He hits for a good AVG and OBP though. He would be an upgrade to Crede in my opinion. I don't see it happening though. There's no way he would clear waivers and August 31st is the deadline.

  11. But now I get to here Hawk talk about how he's not as good as some of the pitchers he saw in his day, though he will say "this kid is gonna be something special". DJ will be absolutely droolling over Felix' curveball, not to mention his 95 MPH fastball that acts as a sinker and his ridiculous change that cuts 15 MPH off of his fastball with phenominal movement, how could I forget his 4 seemer that he throws 97 MPH with movement in on RHB and movement in on a LHB both with pin-point control. 2 years from now we'll see that slider, which is his best pitch.

At least when Hawk talks about how good the guy is pitching against us and how most teams would get shut out by him, it won't be a pitcher like Shawn friggin' Estes.

  12. Can someone please tell me why we are not putting in claims for guys like dmitri young, mike sweeney, hell even alfonso or griffey?

The only reason I can think of is that they would rather have these guys pass thru waivers and try to work out a deal and not take on the entire contracts of the above guys.

Is this acceptable this season? It's been obvious the entire year that the offensive help was needed. If we are not adding guys because of $$ concerns than that really pisses me off considering the chance we have this year.

Dmitri Young is no better than Carl Everett. Look at their respective stats. Alfonso Soriano was already blocked by the Twins when they claimed him. He cannot be traded now. Griffey and Sweeney have both cleared waivers and can be traded now. I agree with you though. If Reinsdorf and company were serious about winning this thing, they would be trying their hardest to obtain Griffey. The Sox have had record attendance this season and a record number of sellouts. Where is all this extra money going? To Geoff Blum?

  13. Griffey tonight, 3-5 with a homer.  Average up to .298.  A hitter hitting almost .300, who woulda thought that was possible?

"We have Scotty in left field, Aaron in center field, and J.D. in right field. WHERE WOULD HE PLAY?!?"

  14. The smart money right now says calling up Gload. My guess it that it'll be Willie Harris though.

Agreed. Gload and his stick would make the most sense since he could take over Blum's job of backing up Konerko at 1st base. Blum would start at 3rd base with Ozuna backing up the entire left side on the infield.

  15. Damn.  It's a shame we couldn't snag Randa.  Apparently we were in 2nd place in that derby.

Kenny supposedly had deals in place for Randa and Graffanino. They both fell through (I assume he was outbid by the Padres and Red Sox) and he ended up with Geoff Blum.

  16. I vividly remember at least twice when Bellhorn made costly errors, and that's what started the Pokey chants by the crowd.

And Bellhorn ended last season with 11 errors and a .980 fielding percentage in 124 games at 2nd base. Looks like the fans may have overreacted to a few errors.

  17. Hmm....who will I let influence my perception.....what I see with my own eyes, or a statistical analysis?  Like I said earlier, Bellhorn was so bad on defense that Red Sox fans used to cheer for a bencher to come in and replace him.   Also, I'm not saying there's something wrong with striking out....but a lot of fans would get quite upset with Bellhorn's strikeout frequency.   If anyone thinks Bellhorn is the same player this season as he was in the past, then I definitely disagree.

The Red Sox fans cheered for Pokey because Bellhorn's bat was slumping. It wasn't because of his defense...

    2005 Outlook

Francona stuck with Bellhorn amidst an early postseason slump and a media clamor for Pokey Reese. While Bellhorn's offense earned him a starting role, he will need to maintain his batting average near his 2004 mark. If Bellhorn doesn't, the Red Sox may turn to another candidate who provides better defense up the middle.

  18. Can I ask where all this Bellhorn talk came up, did I miss something?

Crede is having X-rays tomorrow and may have a broken finger. He said himself that his whole hand went numb after getting HBP and he didn't think that was a good sign. The Red Sox DFA'ed Bellhorn 5 days ago. If Crede does have a broken finger, we may need a 3rd baseman.

  19. Wasn't Pods supposed to start playing tonight in the minors?  All I know is that he wasn't playing tonight, and he's not supposed to join Charlotte until Saturday.

Nope, I think he was set to take batting practice today and tomorrow and play with Charlotte on Saturday and Sunday. Supposedly, he will be back with us on Monday.
