  1. Keith if Crede has a busted digit KW will snag somebody in the next few days.

I'm not certain the Red Sox would be willing to trade him to chicago, even though they run the risk of losing him for nothing shortly.  I would expect the Red Sox to try and hold the White Sox over a barrel ... and I would do the same.  There's a decent chance the two teams meet in Oct.

If we claimed Bellhorn, the Red Sox would have no choice. They designated him for assignment 5 days ago. He is out there for the taking. We would just be the last team in the A.L. that has a chance of claiming him because of our record. We would just have to pick up the $750,000 left on his contract.

  2. If Crede is out for an extended period of time...  i.e. for the season...  I suggest Mark Bellhorn.  He has a career .830 OPS vs lefties -- a .260/.351/.478 line.

Platoon him with Blum.  And Ozuna remains in his super-utility role.

This, of course, if Crede is out for the season -- which I assume a broken finger would do.

Agreed, if Crede is out for the season with a broken finger. We could claim Bellhorn right now and he would cost $750,000 for the rest of the season. He was DFA'ed by the Red Sox 5 days ago so there are 5 more days to claim him.

  3. "a whopping 109 strikeouts in 283 at-bats."

What's the difference between making an out on a strikeout like Bellhorn or making an out on a pop-up like Crede? Either way, Bellhorn would have a higher OBP and OPS than both Crede and Blum at the bottom of our lineup. Blum has a .312 OBP. Crede has a .285 OBP. That is just simply disgusting. Bellhorn at least has a .328 OBP which is higher than both Crede's and Blum's. The only reason I can see someone not wanting Bellhorn is for his defense at 3rd base. He is most definately an offensive upgrade over Crede and Blum.

  4. Rob Mackowiak time?  That would be a great addition.

Mackowiak has been garbage after the All-Star break...

    98 AB | .224 AVG | .269 OBP | .327 SLG | .596 OPS | 1 HR | 11 RBI | 6 BB | 22 SO

Not that I'd want him but did he even clear waivers anyways?

  5. If it were me,  when Ozuna plays I'd put him at SS and UriBE at 3rd.

I think Ozzie keeps Uribe at SS because he is just in love with those deep throws from the outfield that he makes. Ozuna wouldn't have a chance on those.

  6. Couple of quick thoughts from someone who only saw the 9th inning on TV:

    - our star pitchers really stepped up this week.  Kudos to them.

    - Why in the world was Ozzie going to leave Crede in the game to bunt in the 10th with Iguchi and Ozuna on the bench?

    - That was a terrible call by the umpire....but PK has got to catch that ball.

    - Great game for Jenks to get the confidence he can close.  With every passing game, Hermanson seems less and less confidence in his stuff.  His slider is hanging high in the zone so often.

    - What did Cotts do to piss off Ozzie?  He should be given more chances than Marte.  Cotts is the best reliever in baseball the last few months.

GREAT f***ING JOB WINNING THIS SERIES!

That made absolutely no sense and confused me as well. I can understand wanting Crede's defense at 3rd base in the bottom of the 10th but Joe CANNOT lay down a bunt. He either bunts into double plays or pops them up for an out. Ozzie could have pinch-hit Iguchi OR Ozuna to lay down the bunt and then move Blum to 3rd base with Iguchi or Ozuna playing 2nd base. I can understand Ozzie wanting to pinch-hit Iguchi later that inning to actually knock in the runs but he should have at least pinch-hit Ozuna for Crede right away to get the bunt down. Ozuna can bunt, Crede can't.

  7. They arent comparable to crede's defensive ability.  And bellhorn is not your offensive savior.  Thats why nobody wants him, because he isnt that damn good.  On this team, with our budget and our focus, I would rather have dependable defense than mashers in my lineup.  We had that the last few years, and it didnt work.

Budget? Bellhorn was designated for assignment and the season is almost over. It would only cost us $725,000 to claim him. That doesn't seem like a lot of money to me if Crede has a broken finger or wrist that will make him miss the rest of the season.

Because Bellhorn is earning a base salary of $2.75 million this year, it seems unlikely that another team would claim him on waivers. Any club doing so would be obligated to pay the estimated $725,000 remaining on Bellhorn's contract.

By the way, Bellhorn isn't exactly a "masher." He draws walks and hits doubles and a few homeruns. Crede is more of a "masher" than Bellhorn is. I would rather see Bellhorn's bat and OBP at the bottom of our lineup than either Crede's or Blum's. If Crede's hand is truly injured and he is going to miss an extended period of time, I would be claiming Bellhorn off waivers right about now. With Matt Smith being outrighted to Charlotte, we do have the extra space on the 40-man roster to claim him.

  8. Roster spot = Young or Owens who are not on the 40 man.  .340 hitter with speed or 30-30 man (granted its all at Bham) but would be nice in September.

Doubt it. Both guys are only in AA and probably aren't viewed as being ready yet by management. Also, Pods is due back on Monday so adding Owens wouldn't make too much sense. If they were going to bring Owens up, I think they would have done it right when Pods was placed on the DL.
