  1. Mark Bellhorn, has been one of my favorite Red Sox over the past two seasons.  He always seems to catch hot in his first year with a team, and then cool off and while that came true once again, Bellhorn still hasn't been as bad as his strike out numbers and batting average would indicate.

His on-base percentage is higher than every player on the White Sox other than Konerko, Iguchi, and Podsednik.  Boy, is that a disgusting statistic to see.  Anyways, I think he would be a great addition so long as he played everyday for Crede.

Bellhorn would have to play 3rd base for us and he would be a huge upgrade on Crede's bat but he sucks defensively there. But if Ozzie can play Ozuna at 3rd base...

  2. Just thinking of players that are out there for the taking because of being DFA'd by their former teams.

    List Includes:

    Scott Speizio

    Mark Bellhorn

    Danny Graves

None of these really excite me.

None of them would make too much sense either since we have Blum and Graves sucks. I wouldn't mind Bellhorn's stick at 3rd base but he sucks defensively there.

  3. Could this have to do with Pods on the DL?  Doesn't that open up a spot or something?

Is Pods still on the 40-man roster even though he is on the 15-day DL? Do you have to be placed on the 60-day DL to be moved off the 40-man roster?

Pods is on the 15 which means he's still on the 40 man roster. This move has nothing to do with him.

    No.

Pods is on the 15 day DL. He is still on the 40 man.

You are only off the 40 man if you are in the 60-day DL.

    Thanks! :cheers

  4. I'm thinking of calling and point out that our Starters ERA until Aug 1 was 3.83, since it is at 3.52.  So, I don't think the slump occured because of bad pitching.

All these guys do is make mistakes. Dolgin is a tool and Levine bumbles and stutters through every sentence he tries to complete. Ozzie is probably a better public speaker than these two gimps.

  5. That could be, it just seems like a strange oversight.  As for updating, I thought Anderson was added when his contract was purchased, on the 15th of this month.  Walker was outrighted, by some accounts, on the 13th of July.  So it can't be that, unless Anderson has been on the 40 all year.

Yeah, so, I'm totally befuddled and I'll just shut up and wait for resolution, thank you all for entertaining my neuroses.  :)

Well, I just figure that the roster had to be at 40 players at the most, right? So if you take away Matt Smith, you are left with 39 players.

  6. Okay.  I thought he wouldn't be, since he wasn't subject to the Rule 5 draft yet.  Plus, the Sox "purchased the contract of OF Brian Anderson" on Aug 15 -- I thought you only purchased someone's contract once, when you added him to the 40 man for the first time.  If not, what does that mean?

But the whole point is -- how could the 40-man roster ever be at 41 players? Wouldn't that be against the rules?

Oh boy! Thanks Levine, we need some Cubs news! E-ramis Ramirez has a moderate to severe leg sprain and will miss a good amount of time. And now Levine is talking about how he's an unbiased reporter and likes both teams. Give me a break, Bruce.

  7. I just posted over there to see if anyone knows anything more over there.

Doubt it, but we will see.  Its not like this is a contest, I just want to know what is going on.  Dolgin has mentioned it twice now, but hasn't really elaborated.

Where is Levine when you need him?

Levine is up next with Dolgin on ESPN 1000 for Chicago SportsNite or whatever the hell it's called. You know, the radio show in which they mostly talk about that show "Entourage." :headshake

  8. Exactly.

Maybe you're right on him being outrighted.  CNN/SI's list of Sox transactions.  But how can the Sox not have updated his status on their website when it happened on July 13?  Especially considering they have Brian Anderson listed on the 40 man. :huh

WhiteSox.com is usually a day behind on transactions, at least from my experience. If this move was just made tonight or after the game, WhiteSox.com probably won't be updated with the move until tomorrow.

  9. Is Frank on the 60 day DL?  Because I count 41 right now including Matt Smith.

Frank has not been placed on the DL and WhiteSox.com's 40-man roster page doesn't reflect the Matt Smith move. Like I said, Dolgin just reported the move on the Sox post-game show. I assume that WhiteSox.com just hasn't been updated yet.

EDIT: By the way, WhiteSox.com's 40-man roster page is incorrect anyways. I don't think Kevin Walker is on the 40-man roster either. I believe he was outrighted to Charlotte as well.

  10. According to Brian Dolgin on the Sox post-game show, minor league pitcher Matt Smith was outrighted to Charlotte so the 40-man roster now sits at only 39. Could this mean a move for a bat is coming?

Also, Hawk changed his stance on Griffey tonight. He was pretty much saying that he wouldn't mind adding a bat like his. Could Hawk be acting as Reinsdorf's mouthpiece once again? :pray

UPDATE: Confirmed by the Chicago Tribune...

    http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...ack=1&cset=true

The Sox opened a spot on their 40-man roster by outrighting Charlotte pitcher Matt Smith.  Smith was 1-6 with a 3.86 ERA with three saves in 58 games.

P.S. - Sorry if I posted this thread in the wrong forum. I just figured that this could be pretty big news and the move could be related moreso to the White Sox than to the Charlotte Knights.
