QUOTE(fathom @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) I got to listen to the game on the radio in the 8th. It was quite exciting to hear. I can just imagine the "stretch" calls by Hawk. I think he fell over on Mackowiak's hit -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) Thornton was horrible for two seasons with the Mariners -- he walked the world just like he did in the minors. Expecting him to suck was not exactly a crazy nor a stupid prediction -- it was the reasonable response. No, it was ridiculous. Get it straight -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) Many people said that there was a good chance that he could be effective. Many said it was a very good trade. I've said all of these things before. That's not hindsight. Yea, that was said, but it was also said that he has never had any success at the professional level, so why would he now? Thats perfectly reasonable to say, yet now, after he's already pitched for 2 months in the season, you refer to it as "just one of many ridiculous things said before on this board." -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) Just one of many ridiculous things said before on this board. How was it ridiculous to say that a pitcher who was absolutely horrible for the Mariners wouldn't be a good major leaguer? Do you have some crystal ball that tells you everyone that's going to be good in the future? Please, stop looking at things in the past and analyzing them like they were said today. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 22, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) Vazquez has given up 12 runs to Oakland in his career. The problem? He's pitched 12 innings against Oakland in his career. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 22, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) 89 pitches for Garland through 5. The good news? He won't be going more than 6. The bad news? Our bullpen will be relieving him. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 22, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) Stuff certainly does change though. No one had Contreras in the playoff rotation this time last year. And he was and has been our ace since the 05 ASB. Since you have special admin powers, could you find the Garland contract extension thread? I tried looking for it some time ago, but I couldn't find it in any of the past pages for Pale Hose Talk

How has the game been? It seems Frank got the reception he deserves, and hit a HR with it, but anything else of note? Or has it just been a typical Sox/A's game? -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 22, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) BTW, this thread is gold to be bookmarked and should be looked back on in December.... Please do. I'll admit it if I'm wrong. I was wrong about Contreras this offseason in terms of his production, and he's proven that, but Garland has yet to prove me wrong in any sense.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 22, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) From a baseball perspective, keeping a good 27 year old starter who is just now figuring himself out, is better than re-signing an aging pitcher, who is only going to lose more MPH off of his fastball, no matter who he is close to. It makes more sense to keep Garland, bar none. Depends on who you ask And no, it doesn't make more sense to keep Garland. Garcia has had much more consistancy, and is a much better pitcher than Garland, while only being 2 years older, and being the same price in 2007, but not on contract for 2008.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 22, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) Yes, im sure when KW is making business decisions for trying to improve his team, and keep it good for years to come, the personal relationship between a player and the manager would kill all reasons to get rid of a player. Please. Your blatant Garland hatred has blurred your vision. And keeping Buehrle is good for the team, as is replacing Garland with a much better starter in McCarthy. I don't see where you are coming from. Unless you are talking about Garcia, which is true. I highly doubt he's going anywhere, and he still happens to be a pretty damn good pitcher (extremely underrated in the Sox rotation).
