  1. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) I thought it was the worst answer. His "mill stories" are worse than Guiliani constantly talking about when he was mayor on sept11, 2001. Yes, I've pointed that out before as well. Edwards' Son Of A Millworker spiel is as instinctive for him as 9/11 is for Rudy.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) On one hand, I can see your point. On the other, letting emotion get in the way during decision making can definitely be a weakness. Which would indicate that Edwards' and Clinton's answers were the worst of the bunch - they basically said they get too involved, too emotional. Basically, Obama gave the more honest but less politically savvy response. Edwards and Clinton gave the textbook responses.
  3. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) In all honesty I think all 3 had good performances overall. But I found their actual responses to this question.... Obama Edwards Clinton Those were indeed lame from Edwards and Clinton, but, I think the best part was during the rebuttles on that question. Clinton leapt at the opportunity to use Obama's answer and another quote of his about being a CEO not a COO to say that a Prez needs to know how to run the bureaucracry... and Obama's response was great. Got good laughs from the crowd and from Edwards as well. If you have the text handy Sqwert, maybe you can find that part?
  4. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 09:50 AM) http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/news/top50/y2008/ Just read the top 50 prospect list from MILB.COM and it was interesting to see that 5 of the 50 top prospects were from Venezuela - Franklin Morales, Carlos Gonzalez, Carlos Carrasco, Elvis Andrus and Alcides Escobar. Two of them are SS's. Anyway, it made me wonder about Ozzie Guillen. Wasn't he supposed to be somewhat influential in his native country and weren't the Sox supposed to benefit from his connections there and overall from having a Spanish speaking manager. Why is it that the Sox have NO good prospects from Venezuela in their organization ? And, how much have they benefited from Ozzie's heritage and connections? Just curious and trying to make an analysis. I expected there might be more of an impact for the Sox from Latin(Venezuelan) players with Ozzie. I see you've made the leap from 'the Sox don't have one of the 5 best Venezuelan prospects according to the book of MILB.com', which is true, to "the Sox have NO good prospects from Venezuela", which may or may not be. Perhaps someone who knows where the Sox' prospects are from can answer that. Do we truly have none?
  5. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 10:48 PM) As I've said before, I believe caucuses favor Edwards and Clinton, especially in a close race. Iowa seems to say otherwise. So do the major union endorsements that Obama has gotten - those are reliable voters and good organizers. Edwards' high standing in the two polls is a surprise though, and he will also be popular with some of the smaller unions that didn't do an endorsement. I'd say that Edwards and Obama will be most favored in the caucus format. Keep in mind too that unlike Iowa, there are not the folks like Richardson, Dodd and Biden who will routinely have some small support but not 15%, to throw around. All that are left outside the big 3 are Kucinich and Gravel, and frankly I doubt either will get more than 2 or 3% anywhere.
  6. Well, let's look at the 2 NV polls taken this month for the Dems... ________ARG__R2000 Clinton.....35........30 Obama.....32........32 Edwards...25........27 So its a dead heat between Clinton and Obama, with Edwards running just a few points behind. With it being a Caucus, basically, its wide open.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) So how does winning Michigan help Romney in the whole scheme of things? A loss would have been devastating, not only because that would be 3 states with no victory, but also Michigan is his home state and where his father was a governor. If he couldn't win there, that would look really bad. Now, he won there, and has a decent-size lead in delegates going into South Carolina and Super Tuesday.
  8. Watching the debate tonight... --All three candidates came had strong voices --Clinton seems to have reverted to the candidate-in-waiting method - we'll see if that arrogance helps or hurts --Obama started weakly, but then recovered and got a few good laughs --Edwards was pretty much his normal self, though he looked pretty bad on the locally hot topic of Yucca Mountain --But also Clinton and Obama (not just Edwards) had at least one screwed up answer - Clinton on finance (which she is clearly not knowledgeable on) and Obama on taxation (he sounded bad trying to defend his tax policies) Overall, probably not much coming of the debate. But it was fun.
  9. Clinton, alone on the MI ballot, is currently only pulling 56% (with 84% reporting). Not great.
  10. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) i think Clinton asking Obama to co-sponser her bill was a BRILLIANT move. And Obama was put in an odd situation. He didn't say yes or no... we'll see how it gets spun. Meh, they all had basically the same stance on the issue anyway.
  11. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 08:56 PM) Obama looks kinda flat tonight in the debate He sure started weakly - but he recovered nicely. Clinton clearly was quickly and incompletely coached on the subject of foreign investments, because she just said a bunch of gibberish on the subject. And... did I miss-hear, or did Hillary Clinton refer to Hispanics as "brown people"? Is that acceptable in the current environment? I'm actually not sure.
  12. Early Returns from Michigan... Republicans (3% reporting) Romney: 35% McCain: 32% Huckabee: 17% Paul: 6% Thompson: 4% UNCOMMITTED: 3% Giuliani: 2% Hunter: 1% Dems, for what it matters: Clinton: 62% Uncommitted: 31%
  13. So I've been reading articles to see what has actually been SAID in this supposed race issue between Clinton and Obama. And I've gotta say - I don't see where Obama has even brought up race. Its just not something he's said. And the more I look at it, the more clear it is that the Clinton camp has elected to try to use the african americans that are aligned with them to try to bait Obama into something. And the media focus on even the HINT of the issue has sort of worked for her - is put the issue out there. And while it seems clear to me its all Clinton camp B.S., I wonder how clear that will come through to the general public. I really dislike Hillary Clinton.
  14. Does Great Falls have a lot of UFO sightings or something? Being in the Pioneer League, I think Voyaguers would have made a lot more sense.
  15. QUOTE(ptatc @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 05:01 PM) A well below average MLB player who was the starting shortstop on two world series winners and a WS MVP. Just goes to show you that tools aren't everything and scouting is not an exact science. Players with "well-below" average tools may not be MLB stars but can be effective players in used properly. I tend to agree with this - some players are more than the some of those skills. Others have negatives that take away from those skills.
  16. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 05:01 PM) No longer the White Sox, but the Voyagers. Is it Voyagers, or Voyaguers? Seriously asking - there is a difference.
  17. QUOTE(BureauEmployee171 @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 04:27 PM) Every type of market has a flaw. Every single one. The MARKET in FREE MARKET has no flaws that are corresponding to government collapses, etc. Your views on child labor, etc. are social views. They have nothing to do with the Free Market policy. There are laws in place that take care of those social policies now. Don't mix the economics of free market with the socialist policies you speak of. OK now this is a little ridiculous. You first say every type of market has flaws, then you say free markets have none. Then you refer to the human consequences of unregulated free markets as being somehow completely segregated from those markets. That's like shooting someone and saying the bullet killed them. Its technically true, but misses the point. Free markets work quite well, but a truly open, unregulated free market economy is a utopian fantasy that has as much chance at success as true communism. Free markets, in a free country, need some degree of regulation - or else you end up with a fiefdom.
  18. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) I bet hillary wins the dem. side I think it would be hilarious if "Uncommitted" won for the Dems over Hillary.
  19. QUOTE(The Beast @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) Why all the hate for Graffanino, Gload and Perry? Don't ask me. I liked all three.
  20. QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) I think he was overvalued by a fair amount of Sox fans which lead me to dislike him. He seemed to think he was underutilized as well, which didn't help with me. Screw him I'm glad he was sent packing. A fringe utility type guy who thought he was more then that, and tricked some fans into thinking the same. Lies!!!!!
  21. McCain is the one GOP candidate who seems to have a good shot at winning a national election against the Dems. If there is any effort by the Dems in the GOP primary to effect that, they will vote for Romney or Huckabee. If there is no organized effort, then the independent voters will make McCain a winner. My predictions... McCain 33% Romney 30% Huckabee: 16% Thompson: 8% Paul: 6% Giuliani: 4% Others/non: 3% Independents make the difference with no Dem primary that matters, and that gives McCain the edge.
  22. QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) Jerry Dybzinski(spelling?) Tony Graffinino (spelling?) Jaime Navarro Ross Gload Jose Paniagua (spelling?) Harry Chappas Seems like I didn't care for a lot of guys whose names I can't spell. No hating on the Gload!!! Ross was underutilized.
  23. Returns should start in a few hours. Discuss the Michigan primary here. Romney and McCain appear to be in a close race.
  24. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) Illinois owns lake front property that would be affected by the dumping. Undoubtedly it would be effected. That effect is a good example of what both the takings clause and the interstate commerce clause are currently interpereted to protect against. But is that property law? I am not so sure. Because while any state or entity could theoretically sue some corporation or other state for pollution making to their air/shores, that does not guarantee standing from a constitutional point of view. Its definite that an entity cannot legally dump on some other entity's property. Its not direct or definite that pollution dumping in Lake Michigan is an act against Illinois. But as I said, I am not sure if its a 5th amendment thing (which is definitely property law) or an interstate commerce thing (not property law) or a health and welfare protection thing (not either).
  25. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) right. that's his point. Elizabeth has the best coverage available. but he also realizes that this is not always the case. dude. when you're faced with the knowledge that the woman you love and have devoted your life to will DIE within a few years, i think it can have a profound effect on you. He realized that we only have a short time to truly make a difference in this world and that's why he's fighting for the people who weren't as fortunate as he was. He has now devoted his LIFE to fighting poverty. But man, he's done this his whole life. It's not like it STARTED w/ Elizabeth's diagnosis - that just brought everything into clearer focus. How is that different than Obama questioning and experimenting with his faith, then choosing to get involved in the church?
