  1. Both caucuses, both happening on Tuesday, 5/20. Some recent polls to chew on... OREGON Portland Tribune, 5/8-10: Obama +20 S-USA, 5/9-11: Obama +11 PPP (questionable), 5/10-11: Obama +14 KENTUCKY only one poll since IN/NC... Research 2000, 5/7-9: Clinton +27
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 14, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) Obama and McCain My have Public Debates... PS: Now that Obama is almost certainly the nominee, might this be a good time to sticky this? We'll wait until its official.
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 14, 2008 -> 09:38 AM) I tend to think the communications between terrorist cells in Afghanistan is in Arabic since I bet a lot are imported/ I'm not so sure. A lot of the people in Afghanistan, who are imported to do bad works, are probably from neighboring countries - Iran, Pakistan, the little Stans... and those are not Arabic speaking countries. Add that to the locals, and you probably have a large majority who speak something other than Arabic.
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 14, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) ABC Blog smears Obama... forgets to check the facts. The problem: The terrorists speak Arabic. Hence why you need translators. To translate their intercepted messages. Afghanis don't speak Arabic generally. People in that area are more likely to speak Pashtun, or Farsi/Persian variants. Some of the imported terrorists may speak Arabic though. I have to agree with ABC, in general, Obama's statement is misinformed.

  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 13, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) yea i'm totally surprised. i haven't been looking at any polls or really following politics much lately Barack is pretty much the nominee and could lose an important state for the Dems by 30 points. i didn't expect something like that to happen. figured the Dems would start to all support Obama now. WV was going red in 2008 no matter which Dem candidate got the nod. Same with KY, where Clinton will win by almost as much. Its not what I'd call an important state for the Dems. Clinton or Obama, the only southern state that would be in play is AR, for Clinton. The rest are going McCain. The key differences between the two Dems are the rust belt (where Clinton would do better) and the west (where Obama would do better).
  8. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 13, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) Are you really surprised? Most of the reputable polls were showing a 30 to 35 point win for Clinton.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2008 -> 05:37 PM) I haven't seen this in a while, but what's the projected polls in Oregon looking like? some recent OR polls... Portland Trib, 5/8-10: Obama +20 S-USA, 5/9-11: Obama +11 PPP, 5/10-11 (take with grain of salt): Obama +14
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 13, 2008 -> 05:27 PM) I dont think you'll see that. Fox maybe, but not the others. You'll see it, especially from CNN. Anything to continue the fight will help their ratings, plus they do seem to be a bit pro-Clinton (though not as much so as protrayed, I think).
  11. MBINAA was always my fave. I mean, seriously. As if this was a discussion that could ever result in an answer. The term "ace" is so subjective, it makes for an impossibility of logical discussion. Its like asking if jelly bellies are indeed the bomb. JBANTB!!!!!!!
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 13, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) I don't even know why the NYT would say that, that's just sloppy journalism. Obama's repeatedly said he would have talks with enemies and he does it rather loudly and flamboyantly all the time. There has been a lot of twisting of words in the media recently, particularly Obama's words (though McCain's too).
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 13, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) Speaking of shortsighted moves that have no economic benefit... Its seems we are going to suspend putting crude into the strategic reserves because prices are too high. Net benefit to you? MAYBE 25 cents a gallon. We got a fuss about a few pennies on suspending the gas tax, but when we are talking about the exact same cost savings in our national energy emergency plan, they all vote for it? Its such pandering bulls***, it is pathetic. The entire Senate, minus the one person who didn't vote for it, should be ashamed. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/13/con....oil/index.html Who had the balls to vote no?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2008 -> 08:59 AM) Hillary's camp is now saying they're going to win the popular vote. I know that doesn't even matter now, but is that even possible if they don't include MI and FL? Without FL and MI, there is zero chance. With them both, maybe, if she does better than expected in the remaining contests.
  15. If you are looking for a bat with some sick numbers, look at what David Cook (B-Ham) did last year and is doing this year. Hitting .316, slugging .632, his OBP is .463 (making an OPS of 1.094). Cook has 7 home runs in a month of play, and playing in a non-homer-friendly park. He put up a similar OPS in B-Ham last year in a late call-up from W-S. And he walks more than he strikes out. He's old at 26, but it looks like he may have figured it out. He may be in Charlotte before long.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 13, 2008 -> 08:34 AM) I think in Wass's case, he was a gimic pitcher who got figured out. Anyone with a quirk seems to be the more times you see them, the easier that quirk becomes to figure out. Hell Dontrelle Willis is the perfect example of this. Wass definitely has a gimick. But looking at his numbers last year, and his numbers his entire career moving up, he doesn't profile like a gimmick pitcher. His GO/AO number in 2007 was sick - one of the best in baseball. That tells me his stuff has very good movement. And he had solid control. Plus he made some Coop changes in the offseason, and suddenly in ST, he was getting lefties out. So I guess I'm also in the camp of, let's give him another few outings. If he continues to get hit around like this, then either he has indeed been "figured out", or he's lost some stuff.
  17. QUOTE (Cknolls @ May 13, 2008 -> 07:15 AM) So retail sales rally the futures mkt. 9 points. Pathetic. But you have to respect the mkt. It seems like "they" want to take the mkt higher. But the retail sales number was fueled by credit growth in installment debt.It accelerated from $5 billion week over week, to $13 billion recently. Very unsustainable. The equity markets just don't have the capital they had a few years ago - commodities are eating it up, and boomers are retiring and pulling out of stocks. They grab onto anything they can to try to rally the markets.
  18. The pitching this year has been so good, and yet, last night we got a showcase of two rare exceptions - Buehrle and Wassermann. And what's really odd is, those two were among the most reliable pitchers in 2007 (a year when there was very little reliable about the pitching). Its like the staff has flipped. So what's wrong with these two? In Buehrle's case, he has indeed lost some velocity, but is that it? He walked some guys last night, but it seemed like his breaking stuff was just to loopy and soft. They were keying on those breakers, it seemed, and hitting them around. Anyone else have any theories? In Wassermann's case, I haven't gotten to watch his two recent appearances. Can anyone say what's going on with him? They guy was nails in 2007 at AAA and Chicago, then again in ST this year, and again in AAA this season. Why the sudden bomb-out?
  19. QUOTE (YASNY @ May 12, 2008 -> 01:28 PM) To quote Popeye: I yam what I yam. I don't need discourse and I don't need liberals. Then, I have to ask... why post or read in here? I mean, discourse is what we are doing, right now. And half the board (more or less) are "liberals". If you don't need either, why not just curl up by the fire with a good AM radio and tune into Rush? I should start a thread: Why do you post in the Buster? I'd like to hear some peoples' answers.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 12, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) With the super delegate lead now gone, even with WV coming tomorrow and Clinton expected to rout there, she can only really be relying on Obama falling flat on his face. Even that will do nothing. Its over.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 12, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) The new filibuster rules do not apply to certain people. Just because you disagree with him (as I do), and may find his stance a bit absurd (as I do), that does not mean he can't post it. He's not attacking any person or poster. He's attacking views on issues, and that is within the rules, as far as I am concerned.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) 4 more SD's (give or take) for Obama today...he takes the lead in the AP count, the Demconwatch count, CNN still has Clinton by 2. And now, CNN agrees, Obama takes the lead. I think we can call it official now.
  23. The catching situation in Charlotte is weird too. Jared Price was called up from B-Ham, and is now on the Charlotte roster. Ryan Smith is still listed as 7-day DL, but he's been there for weeks. And Donny Lucy is still listed as "active" on the roster. ???
  24. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 12, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) Likewise for 'Neocon'. And you are fooling yourself if you think 'conservative' is used in a positive way when referencing politicians by anyone other than Fox. Same deal, I agree. The real problem, IMO, is the polarization going on. The middle-leaning groups in both parties (Blue Dogs, New England Republicans, Farm Democrats, etc.) have all been eaten away as each party goes to their respective gutters. And the media just eats it up, because a good old a vs B fight is much easier for their crappy journalists (for the most part) to grab on to.
  25. QUOTE (YASNY @ May 12, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) In my eyes, liberal is a dirty word. It has been since I was in 7th grade and had a liberal Social Studies teacher that tried to influence the thinking of the class. It worked just opposite with me. Stupid ass b****. Sort of makes it difficult to engage in discourse with someone when they think anything described as left of center should be labeled with a dirty word.
