THAT is why Juan is a great defensive SS.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) I was vacationing in Boston when Carl melted down against the Mets and threw the tantrum -- can't believe I caught that game. He's got an explosive temper. Also in Anaheim the mic picked him up yelling to a fan "f*** you and your mother" on his way back to the dugout. classic! Gotta lov Carl!

QUOTE(ptatc @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) The only way I put Politte in the deal is if we get Mota. Mota is a closer (protection for Hermanson +a closer for next year), Politte while good is pitching over his head and not a closer. Wow. Garland is ptiching over his head, let's trade him for Burnett.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) Because it's clear other guys should be cleanup hitters on this team, but Ozzie just won't move him. I honestly don't see PK moving from the 4 spot either which is dumb IMO. I figured that would be the case and it is a shame. To me, Dye is CLEARLY the cleanup guy for us right now. Overbay, Dye, and PK are my 3-4-5 is we get this deal done, but I dont see it happening.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) LMAO, I'd like to see you try. He'll put out his "laser" and blind you to death with it....

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) I'm not disagreeing but Pauly's going to be our cleanup hitter no matter what so it's a moot point. Why do you say that???
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Haven't you realized by now Pauly's going to be the teams cleanup hitter all year. EDIT: To answer the question I'd absolutely love Huff or Overbay. But he shouldnt be the cleanup hitter. He is brutal with RISP and 2 outs. I am tired of his pop ups and GIDP. Dye has been tearing the cover off the ball and he deserves to be the cleanup hitter IMHO.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) You sound like a fool. Right now the Marlins are making a push for the playoffs, they're 4.5 out of the WC and 5.5 out of the division. Last year they kept Pavano all the way through the season to make a playoff run when they could have easily traded him and got something for him instead of losing him to Free agency in the offseason. To call Larry Beinfest a little b**** for trying to get what HE wants and not giving in and taking a lesser package for a player that he doesn't even have to trade is just stupid. He's in the position of power right now. Any Burnett deal should/will go through under his terms. Other teams Red Sox/Orioles/Tigers are more desperate to acquire Burnett than the Marlins are to dump him. And you don't like the price tag for Burnett but you think it's a good idea to go after Schmidt? Sabean's going to want more for Schmidt than Beinfest wants for Burnett. That makes NO sense. Beinfest is doing his f***ing job, he's trying to get what he wants for his player or he's not gonna trade him. To say he's acting like a little b**** just shows a lack of intelligence and a lack of maturity. Your right. That was stupid of me. It's his job to get the most he can for his guy. That was very stupid of me.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) But this means you want to get away from what has gotten us this far, our defense. Crede is f***ing stellar at third with the glove and is a big reason for a lot of runners not crossing the plate because of his defensive play. Huff is brutal at 3B that's why Pinella pulled him from third half way through last year and he's been playing OF/1B/DH exclusively since then. He's a huge step down from Crede with the glove. Give me Overbay, his left handed bat in the middle of this lineup would be huge. ^^^^ End of discussion...

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) our need for someone who can contribute daily at 3B (not just the occasional clutch hit, far outweighs our need for a 1B this year. I disagree strongly. Crede is abso-f***ing-lutely solid at 3B. His defense is top notch and his offense has been coming around. I have really warmed up to Crede and I hope he has a monster 2nd half. Imagine this: Pods Gooch Overbay Dye PK Rowand AJ Crede Uribe

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) It's not Kenny. It's everybody else. Kenny hasn't said anything about any trades. This is true but did we know ANYTHING about Carl Everett? Did we know ANYTHING about Robbie Alomar. All this was kept under-wraps and was a surprise to everyone. KW's style is not to have anything known. Trust me, he watches TV and listens to the Radio too.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) No, because we got our man. I don't think giving up Miguel Olivo (hahaha!) and Jeremy Reed is too much for Freddy. That was cheap! DONT FORGET BIG SLUGGER MICHAEL MORSE! He is scalding the ball! He is the savior of the M's! :rolly

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) thank you soxfan. overbay would be a great fit, high avg, obp, translate into runs... how many tiems does PK come up with men on 2nd and 3rd with two out and hit a pop up? Overbay hits singles and doubles in those situations. Glad I could be of assistance. Oh, and VaFan....when posting stats, please verify what f***ing stats we are looking at! They are just a bunch of numbers! 235 .325 73 6 276 14 65 346 61 1.94

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) Like he did with the Yankees for Garcia last year? No I think that was a little different. I your case, we would be the Yankees and the Sox would be the BRaves because the Yankees werew the one after him and then we came out of nowhere to snag him. Atlanta is just going to drive up the price.

I think we should sign some guy who's only AB was a homerun. He'd hit like 600 homeruns in one year!!!! LMFAO!

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) My point is that we shouldn't be falling all over ourselves drooling over a 1B who doesn't have great power numbers. Sure Overbay is a solid ballplayer and he's a left handed bat. But he's not GREAT. Since when does this team need a power hitter? WE DONT! PK....look at him. All he does is hit HR's OCCASIONALLY. Overbay is a doubles hitter with good power mixed in. If you want power, congrats because his HR's will go up playing in the Cell. He is an average hitter and THE perfect #3 or #5 hitter for this lineup.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) Regardless they could drive up the bidding... KW is too smart for that. He will not let another team make his guys price go up too much. If he was smart, he'd let Atlanta drive the price way up and then say "f*** you, accept their dumbass trade" hence, Atlanta screws themselves.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) Does this mean you won't be posting until there's a trade? No
-
f*** Burnett. If the Marlins Gm want to be a little b**** about it and try to have everything his way, KW should make him kiss his ass. Go get Schmidt KW!
-
I am starting to believe that KW will not make any trades at all. It is just not his style to have everything out in the open....
-
I shall end this thread now: NO WAY IN HELL WE TRADE POLITTE AND BMAC FOR BURNETT. That is all.
-
This thread is quite odd. 1.) To say the Sox got "fleeced" in the Pods and Viz for Lee deal is absolutely WRONG. At worst, the deal worked out for both teams, IMO, KW fleeced the Brewers. Why? Because Pods is back to being a 300 hitter and VIzcaino has turned it around as of late and can become a solid contributer to the bullpen. 2.) Overbay will be expensive. No doubt about it. But, he will improve this offense immensely. If I am not mistaken, he has 16 HR's this year but his BA is a bit down. Walker can work with him to get his BA up just like he did with Pods and the HR's will obviously come because a.) he does have powere as he is a large man and b.) we play at the Cell. Out him 3rd or 5th in the lineup and we will excel.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) Seriously? Would you be that disappointed in that? Huff is going to produce big in the second half as he always does. I'm not too hot on Baez, but he can't be worse than Viz. Burnett, from what everyone says about him, would be a big upgrade and a power pitcher in the playoffs. Overbay would be good, Schmidt would be good... but is this BAD? I honestly dont like it. Huff Get Burnett and Overbay and I'm happy. Im sticking to these guns.

Wow guys. Wow. :headshake
