  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 27, 2006 -> 09:53 AM) Last night there was a story on this on CNN, and they mentioned that there are over 200 bodies on Mt Everest. I wonder how many of them are openly visible? Seems pretty creepy to me. I know Hillary was involved in organizing a big clean-up where they picked up several hundred empty oxygen bottles and other such debris. I think they may treat the bodies like those on the Titanic, and consider the mountain a grave site as well.
  2. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ May 27, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) Anybody want a peanut? Stop that rhyming now, I MEAN IT! Sleep well, and dream of large women.
  3. QUOTE(samclemens @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) oh come on, first time ive used the word here i can remember...dont be an asshole, man. my bad! Stand down, that's a Princess Bride quote. . . INCONCEIVABLE!!!
  4. Many thanks, everybody, for the well wishes. It has been a very good 29th birthday. In fact, maybe the best out of the eleven 29th birthdays I have celebrated so far. . . I decided the getting old thing was for the birds and stopped some time ago.
  5. QUOTE(minors @ May 27, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) The point I was trying to make was an American President would not purposly kill hundred's of thousands of people. The people who believe that also believe Kennedy was shot 20 times from all over by everyone, Pearl Harbor was bombed by Roosevelt instead of Japan. I have heard these wacko theories all the time and none of them actually took place. Point taken. In regard to 9-11. In regard to the Iraq conflict, the President is too willing to see blood spilled on both sides for an unattainable goal.
  6. QUOTE(DePloderer @ May 26, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) Why is it that no matter what time of the year it always rains when were out running? Because you live in England? Or, maybe you are, like a Douglas Adams character, a rain god and the clouds simply want to be near you?
  7. QUOTE(minors @ May 27, 2006 -> 03:33 AM) So your theory is that Bush Killed 3,000 Americans just so he could start a war in Iraq that would kill another 3,000+ people could die? Wow is all I can say Your total fatality count in Iraq is 3,000+ people, and Iraq civilians don't rate a mention? Wow is all I can say.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 27, 2006 -> 02:07 AM) AG Gonzalez threatened to resign if Mr. Bush capitulated and gave back the seized documents. Abu Gonzo grows a conscience now? Whodathunkit?
  9. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 26, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) Skip dinner, head straight to Mons Venus! Ach, Mons is great and all (I fell in love there three times . .. in ONE NIGHT!), but Ybor has a lot to offer. This is probaboly too little, too late, but Dinner at Columia, and then the rest of the night at Tampa Bay Brewing Co, (kickass Belgian-style beers) is the right way to do Ybor.
  10. QUOTE(Soxy @ May 26, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) Stephen Colbert: The reason I wish I had cable. Scary scary stuff.
  11. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 26, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Whoever made the call better have really heard something or they might be in hot water. http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Sound_of...ffice_0526.html
  12. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 26, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) Enlightened liberal? Now that's an oxymoron if I ever saw one.
  13. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ May 26, 2006 -> 01:32 PM) Panic attacks are the worst. Followed closely by being shot in a House parking lot. . . I'll take the panic attack, thanks.
  14. QUOTE(SnB @ May 26, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) just in case you were wondering, working for a baseball team is as cool as you'd think. You don't have to tell me, Brother. B) B) You are talking to to the assistant coach of THE T-Ball Braves. No autographs, please.
  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 26, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) I still want to write down some thoughts on the structure and things on Iraq and how it relates to some of the failures. I should have some time this weekend. You sure know how to have fun on big holiday weekends my man!
  16. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ May 26, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) FlaSox, the 13 lbs was just his ego. Yo, my BABY BROTHER, happy birthday, beer on Saturday! Cards too? LMK. EvilMonkey aka your brother Wow, I didn't know there was a fraternal connection there. Cool. So when are your more enlightened liberal family members going to show up??
  17. The rhetoric may be harsh (ironic given the topic, no?), and it doesn't need to be conflated with the ongoing "he lied/didn't lie" debate, certainly, but there is still an important point here. The President's concession that his "Bring 'Em On!" taunt to Iraqi insurgents was "misinterpreted" is as close as we are goint to get to him admitting that the cowboy rhetoric was dangerous and reckless. And in truth, I don't believe it was "misinterpreted" by the insurgents at all. They did in fact "bring it on," and a dangerous enemy was fueled and spurred on with lethal consequences for our soldiers and countless Iraqi innnocents. Be careful what you wish for, Mr. President, because you just might get it. As for the concessions regarding the shame that is Abu Ghraib, at least the paraphrased coverage I've read sounds like Bush actually flirted with the notion of some top-down culpability. Much too little much too late, naturally, but still perhaps the closest our reality-challenged POTUS has come to the truth in some time.
  18. QUOTE(Balance @ May 26, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) Probably just some nut-job, not a terrorist. Ah, I'd much rather be shot dead by a plain ol' nut-job. :rolly j/k. I was hoping it was somebody's car backfiring, but 4 ambu,ances on teh scene doesn't make it sound that way.
  19. QUOTE(juddling @ May 26, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Well...considering i was born about two weeks early and still weighed 13 pounds and change when i was born I like to take this time and raise a glass to my mother. WTG MOM!!! For her sake I hope your were a C-section.
  20. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 26, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) Heh. I like it, personally. It still registers as a new post to people who haven't seen the addition, when someone adds on in that way. I don't know what it does to post count or anything. However, I do know that posts will be seperated if written by the same person, if there's enough time between the 2 posts. I only noticed because I came into the thread to post one thing, then saw a post I wanted to reply to, and then when I tried posting what I had initially meant to post it got thrown into the reply post and it was a wholly unintended (and inappropriate) non-sequeter. Long story short (I know, too late!), I came on to post something I found humorous about an inuendo-laden gays in the military headline I read, and it got pasted into the Brain [sic] in the Fire Dept. reply, and it seemed to be an odd response to Queen's post. Not wanting to offend an unknown but no doubt significant number of gay firefighter Soxtalkers, I deleted my quip about the headline. It is now funny to me and me alone. In other words, business as usual. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) Hey if the Sox can use the 10th man to their advantage... Just don't try using fire hoses for foul lines. . .
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2006 -> 10:46 AM) We call it the Southsider rule ... In reality its to prevent spamming through running up your post count. Ah, nothing wrong with a little home field advantage is there, Mr. 40K+??
  22. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 26, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) So stop trying to run up your post count. Rats. . .
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) CORRECTED FOR ACCURACY You'd be pretty lonely in there. . . : Then again, you'd win all the debates!
  24. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ May 26, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) Brian is taking the test for the Chicago Fire Department. He took the test that was back in '95 and while he passed, he never got called. He took the practice test and did well. I hope for his sake he passes and gets called quickly. If he isn't called by 5/10/07 he will never be called as he turns 35 and the CFD now has that age limit. He has someone upstairs pulling for him in spirit now so I hope that helps him. I think I am more nervous than he is. Here's Hoping. BTW, there seems to be a screwy feature on the revamped site. Consecutive posts made by the same poster in a thread are automatically merged into a single post. At east that is my experience right now. Is this intentional? See? The reply to Queen in this post was actually it's own post, then the quip about the automerge was another. This line is supposed to be its own post as well, but I bet it gets merged as well. . . Yep. Is this a way to not carry on conversations with themselves in a thread??
