Game Thread - 04/14 Vazquez vs. Downs

QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) What the hell do you guys expect Anderson to do? He's a rookie. I expected him to struggle A LOT his rookie season, with a lot of strike outs. Not many rookies come up and automatically adjust to major league pitching. He has a lot of potential but you have got to be patient with him. Give the kid some time, jesus christ. CWSOX45 Fine, give him time. Just not on the Major league roster. Send him down to AAA for a month and let him work out his problems. Sure, he has TONS of potential; the game against the Mariners' King (AKA Felix Hernandez) was a show; he doesn't belong on the MLB roster at this point in time. Also, it would be a different situation if he were atleast hitting the ball and getting out all the time, but he has tons of K's. -

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) Man, the Anderson hate is unreal around here. Give the dude half a season at least. If he's battling the mendoza line in July, fine, make a trade, demote him, whatever. But to say he's toast the 2nd week of the season seems pretty rediculous to me. If KW had your attitude he would have dumped Jermaine Dye last May. Have some patience. Griffey? I too hope that is a joke. Not only does he have no range in CF anymore--possibly the worst "every day" CF in the bigs, but he's now an average hitter, and cannot stay on the field at all. Yes, as I said before, the idea of trading for Griffey was a joke. We CAN'T wait till July to make a decision. He hasn't shown me ANYTHING in his two trips to the majors that he can do anything at the plate. Again, Jermaine Dye is a proven MLB hitter, Brian Anderson isn't. Plain and simple. -

QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) If Oz gives up on Anderson, is Owens or Sweeney an option? I don't think Mack or Ozuna are the answers. I'd rather have Anderson in there than those two. I'd rather have Mackowiak over Ozuna. Ozuna is not an outfielder. Owens and Sweeney are both struggling in Triple-A, last I checked, so I'm not sure either of them are ready. -

QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) I hope Griffey is a joke.. and if you want to give up on Brian, you must have given up on Pods a week ago.. at least. Yes, Griffey was a joke. And no, I haven't given up on Pods. He missed a lot of Spring Training. He'll snap out of it. Brian Anderson hasn't looked good all year, and he looked terrible last year. His OBP (the most important batting stat) was .176... that is absolutely horrible. He's got to get it going now, or hes out. -

Alright, Im read to give up on the Brian Anderson experiment. He's horrid. Bases loaded, and he grounds into a DP. He can't do ANYTHING. Whos on the trade block at CF? Griffey!!! -
AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!!&#

Man, Jim Thome. HE'S A BEAST! This guy is on FIRE! PICKUP OF THE YEAR! Thome > Everett + Thomas (yes, combined). -
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) Didn't you get it? That's Farmer's sense of humor. That's funny. No, apparently I didn't get it. Maybe if he would have changed the tone of his voice for once, it would have clicked. But when I heard it, it was definately an evil shut down of Singleton.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) By the way Jose's SGPIR today was 9.3. Er, can I ask what SGPIR is without sounding like a newb? *hums*

Well, as far the nickname for Thome, I like Lumberjack or Three-Strong Gorilla. But, what about a nickname for his home runs? THOME RUN! Get it? T-Home Run Thats what I call them now anyways. I just jump up and scream "THOME RUN" (pronounced NOT like his last name, but HOME with a T) and everyone in the room with me knows what I mean! But damn, Contreras DOMINATED today. This is great. COME ON GARLAND! Make it 5 amazing starts in a row!

QUOTE(samclemens @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) i remember that, i felt bad for chris. i just think we are jumping to conclusions here. give them some time, like at least a month. I did feel really bad for Chris too. Atleast he is TRYING to open up to Farmer. hes got a better voice too.
-
It is really a terrible, terrible duo to listen to. The game on Sunday against KC, Singleton was talking about going to dinner with Farmer, and Farmer SHOT HIM DOWN! He was being such an ass to him. It's terrible. I miss Rooney :(
-
What a joke. I just read that about 5 minutes ago and just laughed my ass off. Buehrle plus Garland/Garcia/Vazquez/Contreras/McCarthy (yes, McCarthy) is better than half of the ones up there. ZAMBRANO AND PRIOR?! BECKETT AND SCHILLING?! *is laughing*

Sorry, I would not like to see this. Brian Anderson has great upside and is progressing well I think. If he cuts down on the K's and GO's, we'll be better off. Give him time.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) Oh, don't get me worng. I know we've got a great team, but most importantly a great manager (unlike many on the board, I too acknowledge Ozzie is one of the great ones). They're too talented and too well lead to be a piss-poor baseball team. I just hope that the bullpen isn't crippling for this team as a bad bullpen has been for the Cubs in the recent years. I just hope Thorton can get his stuff together and start pitching better; hoping Cooper can get some work done with him. Plus, with McCarthy basically dominating everyone, I think we'll be alright. Politte and Cotts need to just calm down a bit, I imagine. And Logan is still very young, and very raw. Here's to the not-to-distant future!
-
QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 10:11 PM) Meh, I don't expect him to say that his team can't match up against ours, but I wouldn't go as far as saying their better if I were him. They have better hitting and we have better pitching. We'll take a look at this when it is all said and done. Do they really have better hitting though? Sure, they owned everyone in week 1, but I think Thome is REALLY going to help this team out on the offensive side. If Scotty Pods can just get one base once every blue moon (I'm still not concerned, only because he missed so much of Spring Training), then I think we will see Thome's and Paulie's numbers skyrocket.
-
Awesome, let them have a false sense of confidence. It'll be that much sweeter when we sweep them out of town in their opening home series! This team is a joke if they think they will go every 6 games hitting 15+ homeruns. Not going to happen, especially with all the loaded pitching staffs in the Al Central (Minnesota, Cleveland, Chicago..). Let 'em dream.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) I was one of the "negative people" because I was worried about a 1-4 start and losing four games to division rivals. I'm sorry, but I think that I am justified in my concern, particularly since we lost 3 of those games when one of our former strengths failed us: the bullpen. While I am certainly glad that we've performed so well the last two games, I still think that concern is justified and that it is cleaer that the bullpen is not something we can rely as heavily on this season as last. Trust me, I'm a fan... but I wouldn't be a Sox fan if I wasn't worried! Yes, but remember, over a 162-game schedule, this is bound to happen. How many times last year did it look like all hope was lost? Our entire team sucked pretty hardcore at more than a couple points, but Ozzie pulled them together and got them back on track. He's a great manager, coupled with a great pitching coach and an unbelievable pitching staff. The law of Averages is perfect for this situation! They will strike back and return to form, because they are that good!
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) this is a pointless post. anyone who actually freaked about a 1-4 start needs to get off the bandwagon... Definately. It's week 1! There is no way you can write this team off after 5 freakin' games. Come on!

Thanks guys! Still getting my self familarized, and I am on a search for a good signature!

Hey guys, first post on the forums! Anyways, I agree with the topic starter. These guys have an insane amount of character and chemistry, even with the additions and subtractions. I almost expected them to start off slowly, with all the celebrations and presentatiosn and this and that.. but now look at them. Three solid starts in a row, with two wins. Buehrle dominated, and Garcia and Vazquez looked great. Plus, we got McCarthy who looks like a gem! I see great things coming to this team! Go Sox!
