Steubenville Rape Case
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) Looks like another school covering up for an athlete's rape in Michigan http://rhrealitycheck.org/article/2013/04/...of-rape-victim/ Disgusting. They should really make it a crime for school officials to actively prevent/stall investigations or try and talk victims out of reporting someone. I'm surprised that girls father didn't beat the s*** out of the principal. If that was my daughter and I was being told that we should be quiet to keep a rapists scholarship options open, well, I'd probably be arrested myself.

Explosions at end of Boston Marathon
QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) so... saying i feel bad for the younger brother isn't exactly what I mean... obviously he deserves every BIT of what he's going to get and then some, but ... damn man I feel like this is just a kid who was obsessed with his older brother, whose parents were back home in wherever, and he just... got f***ed up and corrupted by his only father figure and idol, who it seems was the real mastermind. f***ed up stuff. ugh. Dude was 19. He knew exactly what he was doing and he could have easily said no.

Explosions at end of Boston Marathon
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) This is a pretty difficult issue for me. I think that this kid deserves everything he has coming to him. I also think that prison rape is a terrible problem and, making light of it allows the issue to go unchecked (didn't anyone watch SHAWSHANK?!). Wishing prison rape on the kid (which you did not do Jenks, I'm just making a general statement) means that prison rape is ok. And not everyone in prison will be rotting there for the rest of their lives. The issue that, to me, is cut and dry is how this kid gets tried. He's a US citizen. He should not be shipped to Guantanamo. He should not be stripped of his constitutional right to trial (I think everyone should be concerned about the slippery slope of allowing government to declare a citizen an "enemy combatant" and strip their rights). This idea that society making light of prison rape leads to more prison rape is illogical. I don't guard prisoners. I don't come up with prison policy. I have nothing to do with the Illinois Department of Corrections. My personal opinion as to whether this kid deserves it - while at the same time maintaining that the state shouldn't allow it and should try to prevent it - doesn't affect how prisoners are treated by other prisoners. I don't WISH it, I just don't care if it happens to him. I agree with your 2nd point.

Explosions at end of Boston Marathon
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 09:50 AM) You don't need to feel sympathy for him (I sure as f*** don't) to 1) want him to be fully protected by his constitutional rights which don't evaporate once you're in prison, counselor, and 2) don't believe that anyone, anywhere deserves to be raped. There's a difference between saying I want the state to condone prison rape and hope this guy is next in line, and saying that the state should not condone it and they should prevent it as much as they can, but if it happens to this kid i'm not going to cry myself to sleep and feel bad about it. He's the worst of the worst, and again, deserves everything coming his way.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 09:35 AM) Don't really need anything but the last sentence to show how bankrupt your morals are So sorry I don't feel sympathy for a guy that killed and maimed innocent people.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 09:32 AM) That's a disgusting set of morals you've got there. Rape-as-punishment and you're perfectly fine with it. "Or allow it to happen." Nice selective editing there.

Explosions at end of Boston Marathon
QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 09:30 AM) This is the reason it is so difficult for a short term in prison not to be a de facto lifetime punishment. Go to prison, be raped and beaten, nobody cares, get out, lose all of your rights, have everyone ask why you won't be a productive citizen. Here's an idea: don't commit crime and you won't have those problems!

Explosions at end of Boston Marathon
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) It also happens because society is willing to tolerate it and in many cases encourage it. People laughing at how hilarious it is are part of the problem. If society didn't think it was a great and hilarious punishment, then much of it would go away. Also, based on the NY Post's work for the last week, you shouldn't just "not be setting off bombs at marathons", you should never get photographed doing anything, just to be safe. What? How does society have any control over what a criminal does in jail? Society doesn't want people blowing up 8 year olds but that doesn't stop criminals from doing it. I don't think we should encourage prison rape, or allow it to happen. But I'm certainly not going to feel bad for the guy if it happens to him. As far as I'm concerned he deserves it.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 10:12 PM) Yeah that's also barbaric. But you know whats even MORE barbaric? Setting off bombs in a crowd and mutilating/killing hundreds of innocent people, and then assassinating an innocent cop.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) f*** the barbaric death penalty I'd argue keeping a 19 year old in a federal max prison, most likely 23 hours a day in a jail cell, for the next 50-60 years is MORE barbaric. That said, f*** this guy. Hang him in a public square. He's not worth the cost of keeping alive in jail for the rest of his life.

It seems like you can rig up a back up system on your own pretty easily. Every one of these kits I've seen requires a marine battery purchased separately anyway.

Catch-All Anything Thread
So I got incredibly lucky. My wife went into our basement yesterday morning about 6:30 to get some laundry. I asked her if the basement was dry and she said yes. 20 minutes later she just happened to go downstairs again to get something she forgot (i.e., not part of the morning routine) and our floor drain had water coming up. Within that 20 minute time period our sump burned out. Had she not gone downstairs, our basement, including my 1.5 year long basement remodel with custom wainscoting/paneling would have been flooded. But luckily she did and I got to spend 3 hours with my shop vac constantly pouring 12 gallons of water into my laundry sink that has an ejector pump to get the water out of the house. Eventually my father in law came over with a few replacement pumps and I was able to stay ahead of it. I'm debating whether to buy a whole system with a back up pump and a battery.

Medical Marijuana in Illinois?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) I think that is so the patients can't find out who the good weed doctors are and just go to them.. But you could still go to them. "Oh doc, my back. Can you get me some pain meds? Thanks." Second visit a week later: "Oh doc, my back. Can I try weed this time?" If anything it's giving doctors more of an incentive to hand out the prescriptions since they're guaranteed 2 office visits.

Medical Marijuana in Illinois?
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/b...0,3778883.story I don't really understand this part: So you have to go to the doctor 2 times instead of 1? Seems kind of silly.
