QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) AMERICA’S TOP SPIES LOOK AT MICHELE BACHMANN LIKE SHE’S CRAZY (FOR A LONG TIME) she really is completely bonkers I don't see anything crazy there, just someone who is clearly uninformed.

Yikes man, that sucks. Did you ever see anything while you were dating/before you were married that would have tipped you off that she might be mentally unstable?

Adam Dunn's failed experiment
QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) Never liked this move. Nothing against him personally but I never saw the value in having somebody who is HR-or-bust, most often bust. ?? That's the patented White Sox offense for the last decade. He's the perfect player for this franchise.

2013 TV Thread
I feel like Mad Men is just set on repeat, especially the Pete/Don storylines. Didn't we see the same type of scenes 2-3 seasons ago? Although the Trudy/Pete scene was pretty epic.

Explosions at end of Boston Marathon
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 02:25 AM) Prayers to all the good people who helped others and to all the victims and their families. Biggest impact of this: Impact on lives of those affected/killed. Tragic. Sad. Awful. Secondary impact: This occurred at a sporting event. Good luck attending sporting events in the future with increased security. There's no solution to stuff like this. I'm very surprised we haven't had a major tragedy inside an arena with 80 to 100000 people yet. The day that happens may change sports forever. Many will just watch the games on TV rather than risk going to them. From what I've read it's inspiring how many people help other people in this latest tragedy There is more good than evil as somebody printed on this thread. Meh, the same was said after 9/11 and people still go to games. Security will be tighter for the next few months, and then it'll go back to normal. I'm not sure why people freak out so much about this stuff when your odds of being a victim of a terrorist attack are much lower than being hit by a car, being in an airplane crash, etc.

Explosions at end of Boston Marathon
QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 10:17 PM) yeah no. what's the point of reporting that if they guy's not in custody? Because it's noteworthy that the authorities have found someone they think is worth guarding? All the major networks (and the NY Post!) reported it. Your rush to blame this on racism, or even worse, fear-mongering, was an overreaction and completely unnecessary.

Jury Duty Coming Up
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) Bring documents for everything you have. Make sure you know what your employer's rules are for Jury duty; most employers have certain amounts of time that they will let people off for this purpose. Find out what those rules are, get a document that shows it, bring that document with. Bring documents showing your work schedule and any commitments you have such as travel plans. If your employer does not specifically give certain amounts of time off, bring some information about your actual work duties. For example, I had jury duty while a college student. The college didn't specifically limit the amount of time I could take off, but the judge wasn't going to pull people out of school for a multi-week trial as long as I had my course and travel schedule with me. Do not give a smart aleck response to anything. Be honest and professional. Carry yourself like an adult, don't give them reason to dislike you. If you have to be there, deal with it. A tie is not necessary, but don't look like a bum. If you are picked, the odds are it would be on a short trial. If a long duration trial is necessary, they'll be bringing in hundreds of people because most people won't be able to make the commitment. A careful judge will make sure people document their reasons why they can't serve on that multi-month trial, which is why you should bring work and travel and schedule related documents with you and know how long your employer will give you off of work without penaltyl. By law I don't think an employer can limit you at all. They might not like you being gone for a month, but they can't prevent you from going either.

Jury Duty Coming Up
Go in with an open mind and it can be a really fun experience. It's mostly boring (the waiting) so bring a book, but if you get a good trial with good attorneys it can be good theater.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) f*** you CNN - fear-mongering at its finest. Saudi man was injured at the scene. He's not in custody, but we just want to make sure you all know that an Arab person "may or may not" have been involved. Accidental racism my ass. slight overreaction.

Explosions at end of Boston Marathon
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 04:48 PM) Why? Why cant I point out the real truth here? If two teenagers wrapped a V6 Mustang around a tree and got themselves killed it wouldn't get this attention, if two 10 year olds in the cancer ward passed on the same day it wouldn't even make the news. But a couple bombs go off with similar results and we cant help but be enamored by it. I generally wouldn't care about people's reaction to this, but I think it carries a price to immerse yourself so much in these stories. We get scared and we want something to be done to make us feel more secure. So because the first two Americans to be killed by a bomb in this country since I-dont-even-know-its-been-so-long an entire city is on lockdown and people have found a whole new reason to be scared to live their lives. That's really all I wanted to say, I think someone should say it. I understand what you're saying and made the same comment to my secretary - 4 people were shot and killed over the weekend in Chicago and no one thinks twice, yet we're glued to the TV/computer over this story. But still, you have to recognize that this is something entirely different. It's not a simple crime. It's a premeditated terrorist attack that happened in a big public space in broad daylight. It's movie-villian type s*** that you just don't see on a routine basis. It's someone killing random strangers for sport. In that respect it's different, it's noteworthy, and it's much more tragic.

Explosions at end of Boston Marathon
NY Post might not be the beacon of respectable journalism, but they're not Steve from Soxtalk either (ba doom ching). If they've got a credible source there's got to be something there. But who knows, they could be full of it too. Edit: and the Post report says "authorities," which could be the FBI.
