  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) Wouldn't tehre be some sort of "witness intimidation" protection for a victim? I guess it depends on what he told her. If it was along the lines of if you report this it could become a major embarrassment and God wouldn't like you anymore, I think that's just being an asshole, not illegal. If he had said if you report this i'm going to get you kicked out of school, sure.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) how is that not a crime though? it's pretty clearly intimidation. Eh. It's immoral, I don't think it's illegal. She ended up reporting him and filing charges so...
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) I don't know how he didn't get charged with obstruction of justice, to be honest. He didn't prevent her from going to the police. He just got the teams religious person to tell her there was a prayer meeting and then when she got there and there wasn't a prayer meeting they told her Jesus doesn't like tattletales.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) These are absolutely incredible. A few things that make no sense about The Walking Dead Lol, 32 is my favorite.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 12:07 PM) No one has tried to justify it. That is exactly what I am talking about with weak arguments. Quit making stuff up. Questioning the Berstein is not excusing anything. The problem is the way you phrased your initial response. You're making it seem like there's no good reason for Bernstein to bring this up, when there is a good reason, even if it is for selfish financial reasons. No one is claiming that Bernstein is a saint doing this for the purpose of advancing awareness of sexual assaults. His motives are irrelevant. It's good thing to remind other people about assholes that try to cover s*** up for the sake of their job/program.
  6. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) I don't know how we are going to make any 3 pointers next year. That's a huge issue. Henry is going to be the main 3 point threat and hopefully Abrams continues to work on his jumpshot. Honestly what this team needs most is pass oriented guards. We beat good teams this year when we had good ball movement and open shots. We sucked when we regressed into last years offense - dribble for 32 seconds and hoist up a contested three. Abrams doesn't know (yet) how to set up teammates, Bertrand has awful dribbling skills and Rice is a scorer. Not a good sign.
  7. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) Should the bolded have been in green? I think this year's Purdue team is probably a pretty good comparison to next year's Illini. You only have 5 scholarship players returning. The incoming class, while good, appears to lack any kind of instant impact talent (the kids will all play, but they have significant work to do to reach their potential). Not a lot of shooters on the roster (Henry is the best of the returning players). It will take a monumental leap from Abrams, Egwu and Henry to contend for the tournament next year. Groce exceeded all expectations in Year 1. I haven't been this excited to follow recruiting since Self was at Illinois (remember that Self missed on a bunch of high profile guys, but just like with Groce, Illinois was on so many top 50 players' lists back then). If Illinois is struggling to make the tournament by the time '15 or '16 rolls around, you start looking, but to say that Groce's tenure at Illinois depends on a team with 5 freshman and 1 senior, I just don't get that statement. I meant sub .500 overall. But still, they have 2 starters coming back in Egwu and Abrams and two guys that played lot of minutes in Bertrand and Henry. I don't expect them to be GOOD, but I don't think the cupboard is totally bare and the expectation will be that they still contend for a tournament spot. Ultimately you have to give Groce 3-4 years. I was just saying that if next year they really take a dive then you have to question this season. His success this year might be less about coaching and more about the drive of three seniors to leave the program on a good note. I think it's a mixture of both. Obviously the program is headed in the right direction and i'm excited about what he's doing on the recruiting trail. I'm just not ready to declare that he's going to get us back to the 98-2005 level where we're getting #1 seeds and winning conference and tournament titles. Next year will tell us more about his ability to coach/develop talent.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 09:03 AM) I agree it is out of leftfield, I said it when it happened I cannot believe Frank did the right thing. I really hope we dont see the path to redemption though. Yeah the show is definitely at its best when it's the group versus Frank.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 08:50 AM) The bodyguard told him to be a man, and snatched his phone and tossed it. I really dont see how he would have helped Jimmy out in that instance. As for Frank being out of character, i dont think it is as stupid as everyone else. He has had a lot of moments with Carl this season, and in this episode he brought up the father son moment with his own father and how great it was. We know Frank could care less about being arrested, he has a million times If he goes on a path to redemption (which may or may not happen if he has a medical scare next week), ok I'll buy it. It's clear he's tired of being homeless and away from his home. HOWEVA, this is literally the first selfless act he's performed on the show. He had no ulterior motive. That just doesn't fit.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 09:56 PM) They were two good guys and damn fine players. What a chance we squandered with that group plus Leonard last year, would have been great to see what they could have done this year with a new man at the helm. Can't blame Meyers for leaving, though I think he could have gotten himself to #1 overall type status with this draft class and the improvements I would have expected him to make. There were some frustrating and tough times for sure, and sometimes I think Groce didn't do well, but I really am pleased with how we finished. Had some great marquee wins and moments and that last game against Miami was one of the best coached games I've seen from an Illinois coach in a while. It is rare that the team I like outcoaches its opponent...it was nice. It sucks that we lost, but we showed that we belonged. We have a good class coming in next year and are in on some good guys for the 2014 HS class, so I'm cautiously optimistic for the future despite the big losses of Paul and DJ. The key for my evaluation of Groce will be next year. If they get back into the tournament and win a game, give the guy a key to the University for another 10 years. If they go sub .500 start scouting around for another coach. If they hover around the bubble area, that's about what I expect.
  11. 1. Bernstein is an asshole. 2. Alford is an asshole for attempting to cover up a sexual assault. 3. Bernstein advising new media guys that may or may not know of Alford's assholery past is not an asshole move. /end debate.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 06:24 PM) My buddies think that when Jimmy zipped up his jacket right as he started to walk to the boat, that he was concealing a gun that the bodyguard gave to him. I watched this episode last night and didn't see anything to suggest that's what happened. The bodyguard's hands were shown the entire scene, so that would have to be an off-camera surprise. He's either a goner or they're going to stretch it out until next season (he wasn't in the trailer at all for the finale). Also, I agree that the Frank doing a good deed was totally out of character and pretty stupid. In every other similar circumstance he would have grabbed the stolen goods and sneaked away from the house.

A review of the Mad Men premiere that says very little about the Mad Men premiere. http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/...was-in-season-6
  14. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) Eh, most things have commercials no anyway. I think I've grown immune to commercials. Back when cable first started, it's entire selling point was no commercials...ever... I dropped Hulu Plus because of the ads.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 02:20 PM) I find that if I am not watching tv, I am usually wanting to go out...and if I am going out a lot, I am spending s***loads more than $4-5 that the tv programming is costing me a day. I get that it seems like money that could be better spent, but if you consider it part of your overall entertainment budget, in-home tv is one of the smaller culprits in my monthly budget. This ultimately is why my wife and I ended up getting cable again. When we moved to the burbs we spent over a year without anything and were pretty happy. Then the Bulls made a run in the 2010-2011 season and we ended up going to a bar 3-4 nights a week spending 60-70 bucks on beer/food, on top of the 20 bucks we spent on catching up with other shows through PSN.
  16. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) You aren't really paying the same at all, that's the point. Netflix + Hulu + Amazon Prime + MLB.TV costs a COMBINED less than Basic Cable. I'm not claiming their serving the same content, but taking those 4 services and having all the functionality of them can, for some people, serve everything they need to the point where they don't need Comcast or DTV, etc. And they WILL save money. I'm not disputing that people who only watch a few shows or channels could easily get by. What i'm arguing is that (1) for the average viewer, it's still probably more cost-effective to buy a 300+ cable channel package than to opt for an al-la-carte option at the prices that the 10-15 channels will most likely be able to demand in the market, and more importantly, (2) that the networks themselves make out better with our current system. IMO the future is pay-per content, not pay-per network. And we're going to get stuck with $5 episodes with ads to cover the shifting costs.
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) It's getting to the point where it may not be necessary to have cable or other television service at all. You can get Netflix, Hulu Plus, MLB.TV, and Amazon Prime for a combined cost of LESS than it costs for BASIC cable with no movie channels. The few things missing are things like access to HBO shows, etc...but it's coming...it's just a matter of time before there are other services out there that allow you to replace "cable" by combining a few of them together. We are closer to that now than ever before. You're just moving the provider around but the customer is still paying the same. When large companies own a variety of networks, they will always be bundled together to make the maximum amount of profit. Demand really doesn't factor in here. And you're still missing the fact that a company like DirecTV or Comcast has a gigantic subscriber base, so it makes more financial sense for the networks to stay with those providers. Netflix, Hulu and Amazon will just become another Comcast or DirecTV, or an HBO depending on if they want to create their own content.
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) Doubtful they'd cost anywhere near that much. But the market would set the price. If HBO wanted 40$ a month for a single channel, they'd probably have a hard time getting it to a mass number of people. Here's a good write-up of why al-la-carte won't happen anytime soon: http://gizmodo.com/5972517/the-future-of-t...not-be-worth-it
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 10:08 AM) Until he gets replaced with someone infinitely more boring. Think about the people out there... How would you like to hear Frank Thomas call 162 games? Darrin Jackson, Ed Farmer...oh wait.
  20. Sure, so that's two channels at what, 20-30 bucks a month. What do you think ESPN could charge? Or AMC? I mean, yes, if you're a person that literally needs 4 channels and that's it, it would probably make financial sense. But anything beyond that and you're basically paying the same amount you pay now for 300 channels.
  21. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) Everyone has to do this every two years, because its all a scam. Pay for 543 channels, of which you actually want and watch 13 of. The absolute second true al-la-carte programming is available, I'd be all over it. Meaning I get all the major sports, locals, and the specific movie channels I want, and that's all I pay for. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen so long as the providers can prevent it. The al-la-carte model doesn't benefit anyone but the consumer. The provider and networks all make out better with the current system. And really, i'm not convinced that the consumer would make out better. Even if you watch a relatively low number of networks (say below 15), the price per network would still have to be pretty small, i.e. less than $7-8/month to keep your bill smaller than it is now. I doubt any network would be to operate at those figures. And that's not even considering the drop in quality content. Would AMC ever take off and take a chance on Breaking Bad or Mad Men if they were using only the money they got from their subscriber base? Nope.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 06:41 AM) You are so painfully misinformed in this thread it's ridiculous. I'm getting any channel I could ask for plus HBO and Showtime for $74 year 1 and $94 year 2 then contract ends. The DVR difference is absurd. You are working off of old information. Wow i'm getting screwed. I'm in year 2 of my contract and I pay $120 for the mid-tier programming package, hbo and showtime, one HD DVR and one regular HD box and the whole home DVR deal (not the newer Genie system). I think i'm going to have to wait until my 2 year contract is up and then demand the genie package upgrade.
  23. I despise Hawk, but I have to admit some of his calls are awesome and perfect for the moment. Buehrle's perfect game for example.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 02:53 AM) http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaab--usc-hi...-044628441.html FGCU's Enfield and supermodel wife to USC. Hope he kicks Alford's ass in recruiting and on the court. It almost sucks for him that FGCU made it further in the tournament. I wonder if UCLA would have called him instead of Alford. USC is not a good basketball school.
