  1. Nothing is wrong with Paul Konerko's hips, Jerry Manuel won't be fired, Kenny Williams is still the General Manager, etc...

I can't argue with those statements.

  2. He hit one of the longest home runs I have ever seen at the College World Series years back when he was at LSU. Back when Rosenblatt had the scoreboard was in leftfield, he hit the ball over the scoreboard and the ball looked like it was still on it's way up. I thought when he and Big Frank batted next to each other in the order, that had to be intimidating to opposing pitchers. Those are 2 very big men.

  3. Chicago (AL)

Best Player: Even though the Athletics seemed to get the better end of the Billy Koch for Keith Foulke deal, the White Sox might eventually come out ahead by also acquiring lefthander Neal Cotts from the Athletics in the deal. Cotts was 7-2, 1.89 with 89 strikeouts and 40 hits allowed in 64 innings at Double-A Birmingham, ranking among Southern League leaders in wins, ERA and strikeouts.

His fastball rarely cracks the low-90s, but he changes speeds effectively enough with his changeup and curveball to keep batters off balance and still pile up punchouts. Cotts will participate in the Futures Game, and a late-season trial in Chicago seemed likely.

Biggest Leap Forward: Lefthander Ryan Wing has one-upped his high Class A Winston-Salem teammate and top White Sox prospect Kris Honel so far this season. While Honel’s 6-5, 2.65 numbers might have been expected, Wing’s 8-2, 1.67 mark with 47 hits allowed in 81 innings has thrust him into the same lofty status. It’s also a fine improvement on Wing’s solid-in-its-own-right 12-7, 3.78 campaign at low Class A Kannapolis in 2002.

Armed with a 90 mph sinking fastball and plus slider, Wing might have the best combination of pure stuff and command of any lefty in the system. His .175 opponents’ batting average ranked fourth in the minors.

Biggest Disappointment: Lefthander Corwin Malone zoomed to No. 3 on the White Sox’ prospect list following the 2001 season, but despite his impressive raw stuff hasn’t been able to find his control since. He walked 89 batters in 124 innings at Double-Birmingham last season as he went 10-7, 4.71. Back in Birmingham this year, Malone had issued 24 free passes in 28 innings to go along with a 2-2, 7.16 record before hitting the disabled list with elbow and shoulder problems.

  4. A .185 BA might indicate that there is a drop off in his abilities, but he has always been slow and looks to be no slower than he was last year. His defense at first base is still good. As far as his hitting goes, he still hits the ball on the nose quite a bit, but it just happens to be at somebody. When you put good swings on the ball and you hit it at somebody, I call that a slump and believe that is what is going on with Konerko, albeit a long one. A stint in the minors to regain his confidence is what he needs.

  5. You obviously don't visit a lot of boards then.

WSI has dozens of threads about it. AOL does as well. WhiteSox.com's boards, too. MLB.Com, ESPN.Com... they've all talked about it.

Actually, I do visit quite a few boards and have seen it at WSI form time to time, but it seems to be most prevalent here. If this is so widely known, why has it not been out in the media? There are a few columnists in this city that would be screaming for this guy to be let go if his hip was in that bad of shape.

    southside2k3, I like that line-up as well.

  6. Who says it's you getting hit..? Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm hitting myself because possibly I feel like I'm talking to a wall when I post things here.

Sorry for the assumption. Like I said, this is the only web-site/message board that I have seen that talks about this hip condition of Paul's. If I had seen it elsewhere or heard more people talking about it, I would be more inclined to believe it, but as for now, with all due respect, I take it with a grain of salt.

  7. :bang  :bang  :bang

This could be considered minor assault. Why am I getting hit about the head with a hammer? I'll admit I was playing a little dumb about he hip thing, but why is this the only web-site in America that seems to have information about Paul Konerko's hip problem?

  8. Yesterday's pregame had Bruce Levine reporting that he asked Konerko point blank if he would accept an minor league assignment and was flat out told no.

I lost a ton of respect for Konerko because of this very selfish remark.

  9. The Cleveland Indians traded P Aaron Myette to the Philadelphia Phillies for OF Lyle Mouton.

Lyle Mouton - easily one of my favorite names for announcer Gene Honda to say at the ballyard.

The White Sox traded Aaron Myette and Brian Schmack to the Texas Rangers for Royce Clayton.

If memory servers me correctly, Mouton was acquired in the Jack McDowell trade to the Yankees.

  10. In all honesty, I have come to expect this type of play from the Sox as they simply refuse to take control of this division. But the fact is that the way all the teams in this division play, September will decide this division. With 7 games apiece against the Twins and KC in September, that will decide our fate. Avoid yourselves some frustration and come back in September and the standings will be very much as you left them.

I love this team(not this particular team, but the Sox in general) too much not to watch, but for those who cannot handle your heart being broken time and time again, take this advise and come back in September.

  11. I am convinced that there is no such thing as an easy part of the schedule with this team. The Sox simply refuse to take control of this division. I understand that TB, Detroit and Cleveland are all major league teams and that any team can beat any other given team on any particular night, but so far in the "easy" part of our schedule we are 1-3. I'm sorry, but winning these series right now is not enough, we need sweeps. I consider these next 2 games against Detroit as "must wins". Teams that are supposedly battling for a division do NOT lose a series to the Detroit F'n Tigers.

  12. Or.........and I pray it doesn't happen....if the Sox keep playing around the .500 mark, it may give us time before the trading deadline to unload a Colon or others and get some prospects in return. I like the idea of not waiting until the deadline to make the deals. It gives you more flexiblity to see which direction your team is going.

That said, with 7 games apiece against KC and Minnesota in September we may very well stay put, at least as far as unloading, as that month may very well decide the division winner.

  13. From Baseball America...

'The Rangers still have until July 25 to make their decision on which prospects to choose from the White Sox for Carl Everett, but their scouts have already had a chance to be influenced by some early performances since the deal. Righthander Franklin Francisco fired seven innings of one-hit shutout ball last Thursday against Frederick. He has been clocked between 87-94 mph this year, averaging 91, and his changeup is a plus pitch. His slider gets slurvy. One scout compared the 23-year-old to a taller Octavio Dotel, as his arm works easy and he repeats his delivery. Francisco's Winston-Salem teammates second baseman Ruddy Yan and righthander Wyatt Allen made less favorable impressions in front of Rangers scouts. Yan has gone 5-for-21 since the trade was announced. He is still hitting .300 with a .723 OPS and 49 steals in 58 attempts. Allen, 6-3, 3.21, tossed five innings, allowing four hits, one run and three walks, while striking out two, but the 2001 first-rounder's stuff wasn't great. He struggles to throw consistent first-pitch strikes and locate his fastball, which sits around average.'

  14. If you remember, JM walked Patterson intentionally, to load the bases with one out, and get to Sosa. I worked too, Sosa K'd and we got out of the inning without any runs scoring.

Yeah, that's right. Sosa* just doesn't get the respect anymore. Could you imagine anyone walking Durham to get to Bonds? Just an example, no disrespect to Durham.

  15. The other day when the Cardinals pitched to him and then intentionally walked Alou told me what the league thinks of Sammy* now. Second and third with one out. They pitch to Sosa* and he strikes out. Alou is then intentionally walked and Gonzalez hits the chopper-two-hopper to Renteria and he boots it for the game winner.

  16. A little info...

Scott Dunn -- RHP -- Spot Starter: Dunn is the consummate power pitcher, and how he deals with his control issues will dictate whether or not he fulfills his potential.

Dunn went 12-5 between Class A and AA last season, but he also ranked second behind former Cardinals farmhand turned Dallas Cowboy quarterback Chad Hutchinson with 102 walks. He led the Class AA Southern League with 71 walks, despite spending just over half the season in that league. Dunn's combined 3.36 ERA ranked fifth in the organization, and his 160 strikeouts in 158 innings led all Red farmhands.

The 6-3, 180-pound University of Texas product has a power arm and a good knuckle-curve. According to Reds farm director Tim Naehring, Dunn has a tendency overthrow and pitched up in the zone far too often. He allowed 12 home runs last season

  17. I believe we should expect a sweep when we have Colon, Loaiza and Buehrle starting against TB regardless of our previous troubles with them. Instead, we are looking at getting swept. I'm sorry if this is 'negative', but that should not happen. I hope Mark can stop the bleeding today.

  18. I think the camera switching to Loiaza after the bases loaded nobody out said it all. He just threw his hands up in the air. Tonight's game was a disgrace, not to mention it probably cost Esteban the start in the All-Star game.

  19. I hate to say it, but as soon as there are expectations of this team, our asses get too tight. Now that KW has made some moves because we have clawed back into the race, the team now knows that they are expected to win. I noticed this pattern since the 2000 season. The first half of the 2000 season, nothing was expected of us, the kids could play, and everyone was asking themselves, 'are they for real?'. When teams realized we were for real that year, we sucked the second half. Then 2001 and 2002 and even this year, we made moves in the off-season that made us look like the team to beat and a lot was expected from this team. They just do not perform well under pressure. The one good move KW made this year was making a few trades before the trading deadline, now we have a month to see how this group does and he can dump some of our guys who can land us prospects if we fall out of contention again before July 31st. Like I said, I hate to say it, but I've seen this trend once too many times with this group. Same old song and dance.

  20. What's wrong with Wright? For some reason I really like the guy. I think it's his guts when he pitches. He's a fighter. If he can ever harness his talent and become consistent, he'll be fine. Right now you just don't know which Danny is gonna show up, Wright or wrong. I guess in the midst of a pennant race you don't want to rely on that type of guy. I just don't want him included in any trade.

  21. According to mlb.com radio this morning...

If the Rangers elect to take Webster and Yan, that is all they get. If they choose to take 1 of those guys, they would then be able to take 2 of the other remaining guys. The Rangers need pitching so I think they will opt to take the Wesbter/Yan and 2 prospects. They may want pitching so bad that they may choose to take 3 pitchers. I'm not terribly upset with this list. In my opinion, Webster would be the greatest loss. We went outfield heavy in the first few rounds of the draft which should ease the blow if the Rangers take Webster.
