Yeah, you guys are terrific with the info.

 

The highest picks in two years of Hahn are Anderson, Danish, Rodon and Adams. That's a good group , imo, so I'm going to have faith that this year will also be satisfactory, despite the lost picks andregardless of my first impression on Draft Day.

most definitely, that was part of what i was referring to, the other the sox selection. most of all the other mocks, it being discussed the sox will pick the ss, either i think vandy or lsu.

I'm not a big draft follower in any sport, because I hate the idea of pining for a dozen players, knowing that you'll only get one,. But I do appreciate all the info and detail you're providing.

He's still the same Buehrle. He can throw a fastball by a guy or catch a guy looking when he needs to. I just find it odd you'd single out him in such an analogy when he's still in the top 1/4 of pitchers in the league.

I think he has an article coming out in the next few days, but Kiley McDaniel has said a few times he's heard teams in the 6-10 range of this draft are planning on cost-saving deals with their first pick (ie: Cubs last year with Schwarber).

If they like a guy fitting this description, and it allows them to target a desired overslot in Rd. 4 with the savings, then I'm all in favor.

 

Any draft yielding 2 MLBers is a win.

Reading between the lines, I'd guess there were drug issues, but I don't want to be that speculating a-hole guy, so I'll just stop. Could be any number of things.

 

But what matters now is how fast he can move thru the system, and I believe they'll be aggressive. Adding power arms to the pen will be a necessity going forward.

Yeah I'll always root for the guy, too. Bon Scott would have appreciated the scrotal mass he displayed in the Blackout 163. Very sad that he had the type of injury that he couldnt fully recover from. Still has all the moxie and smarts if he can find a new way to make it work.

 

It will be a delicate balance for the FO, with the various elements involved and the expectation of contention

How are C.Rondon and Barnum doing?

 

Sanchez is back in AAA, so that's another guy to monitor as well.

 

Adam Engel?

Rondon holding his own with the bat in the early going. Barnum looks like the most improved bat, along with Trayce, but again very early. Engel not hitting much yet.

 

May has had woeful starts in consecutive years. Had a great June last year, so maybe just an adjustment period.

 

Would feel SO much better about the near-future of Sox offense if Hawkins were continuing his hot spring. Needs to find it soon, or mental demons will be a likely obstacle again.

 

Many of the position players promoted during the offseason seem over matched in their new locales. Im not on the ledge, YET, but feeling the best chance for improving position player quality will come from trading pitching prospects. Hoping an impact bat can be found with the 1st pick - if I read on Draft Day that the Sox love the new guy's RAW Power, I'll be looking for a commuter train to jump in front of.

 

Emergence of guys like Guerrero and L Martinez could really help if they have breakthrough seasons.

 

And, Saladino is again a guy I believe deserves a look. If Micah doesn't cut it, he, imo, still provides more upside than Carlos, who I like, but XBH will likely be a rare event, and I believe this team needs more slugging generally. Tyler S has more of a Semien-level of pop.

JR's loyalty is insane man.

It's a two edged sword to be sure. It helps keep guys you want to stay with the org, like Hahn, but keeps guys you wouldn't mind leaving behind in too important positions, and creates an atmosphere where necessary changes are made more difficult.

The necessary change won't be forthcoming anytime soon. A few too many years of Ozzie made the FO a little nuts with the manager's role. I think they're still just happy to be working with someone that they like. Need to aim higher, and outside the "family " preferably.

What an abysmal performance today. Thankfully the season is 162 games long but my god just so many inexcusable decisions and performances today. The first game RV is not our manager can not come soon enough.

Unfortunately, RV is a handicap we'll need to get used to. Not likely going anywhere anytime soon.

The thing that keeps me most optimistic about Adams is that he doesn't seem as far away from his ceiling as other guys. Compare him to a guy like Montas, who has the stuff, but has a lot more to put together to make it, versus where Adams is at. For Adams the most important thing seems to be building innings up.

Yeah, love Frankie's stuff but his body is even more worrisome than any command issues. If he was serious about a career as a pro athlete, I'd think he'd be motivated to get some of the weight off of his already balky knees.

but that is the problem, isn't it. the org went out and got coleman for their baserunning coach. that philosophy is aggressive base running. so it is the players fault or the org fault?? how and where does one draw the line.

You draw the line at Sal Perez, for one thing. You look at success rates against the guy and realize it's a bad play unless a better-than-normal jump is achieved. One can be selective and still aggressive. When you're out by a mile, as Jose was at 3B the other day, given the game situation, aggressive has morphed into reckless.

 

These subtleties can be taught - I'm looking for the evidence that it is happening. Vince Coleman is not running the ship, Robin is.

 

Are we going to try to run on Buehrle? I look forward to that stupidity, not.

Well there was the guy at Soxfest who actually asked him if he had a pulse. There are many posts on here criticizing his demeanor.

 

There have been posts saying he doesn't even want to manage. His lack of jumping up and down has been a huge issue for fans everywhere, including here.

 

We are only 3 or 4 days away removed from the team taking on the personality of it's manager posts, and it wasn't meant positively.

 

As we all know, winning solves everything. If we don't, when we're expected to, all manner of unjust criticism comes into play. But there will be plenty of justifiable criticism too.

 

In the meantime, if I feel I'll be offended by the meathead Ditkaization of Chicago sports fandom, and I frequently am, I stay out of gamethreads and ignore posts made too soon after losses. There's a little meathead in all of us.

Then I expect to see some of the stupid mistakes that have defined this team for the past 2+ years on the field to gradually stop. Otherwise, I will continue to judge the corrective techniques being applied to be ineffective.

The change to the righties also seems to be a much, much stronger weapon than the slider when thrown by a LHP.

Especially when it's placed near the lower, outer portion of the plate with late drop. Rodon has left some changes high in the times I've seen him - those will get hit.

 

Realize it's a work in progress - if it gets to a Sale level, oh my, he will have a devastating repertoire!
