  1. It's all so incredibly stupid that I can't believe MLB hasn't fixed in the last decade.

It's not 1950.  Let guys celebrate and have some fun.  If you hate bat flips, don't throw meatballs.  Also, NEVER celebrate a big strikeout as a pitcher because it's the exact same thing.

    • 30 day suspension for leaving the bench for a 'brawl'
    • 30 day suspension for intentionally hitting a batter

The White Sox are actually 3032-2998 under JR's regime.  They won the first world series in 90 years under him.  Should have won another in 94 but lost to the strike.  It's not a legendary franchise but it's ours.  They tried hard to repeat after the WS in 2005...but baseball gods were against them...as they are against most teams.  Then as that team was beginning to fall apart they lucked into Sale/Quintana and tried to see if they could turn the team into a Randy Johnson/Curt Shilling type WS...but by 2016 they realized that they just weren't good enough...almost everyone on the board agreed...and they sold at the perfect time.  They got some great looking parts from the trades and many of those parts are beginning to look good.  I'm excited every day to see the minor league box scores.  Yes the current team is garbage except for about 6 parts...but that's six parts they didn't have in 2017.   Next year it should be 12 parts...and begin to be competitive.  Yes it would have been nice to get Machado...but he wasn't the answer....baseball isn't basketball...one guy doesn't change everything.  The answer as it's always been is about 20 guys in the minors right now...and six pieces in the majors...and more to come in the draft...and yes...they will spend money...The White Sox have rarely (since Bill Veeck days) been penury.

Jerry Reinsdorf has been in charge of this team since 1981.  37+ years.  They have 5 post season appearances in those 37 years.

    That sucks

We had a Kenny Williams problem.  He took over a 95 win team with the #1 rated farm system in 2000 and left a dumpster fire 12 years later.  But because we had some amazing parts in Sale and Quintana we tried for a few years to limp into the playoffs and hope for a dominant pitching run.  December 2016 we started the rebuild.  New gm,  New team building plan,  New minor league coaches, New drafting philosophy...and I think two years on there is a ton of hope.  Yes we didn't get Machado...but we weren't winning this year and Moncada has looked great at 3rd...and in theory we have $250 million to spend on parts we need more next year.  Maybe the plan won't work but by God it seems like a reasonable plan that is working...with time.

We have a Jerry Reinsdorf problem plain and simple.  Starts with him employing competent people and not keeping idiots around for decades because he's "loyal" ++ being able to occasionally write a large check for quality talent.

They don't have "250m to spend on parts we need" when they A) Can't identify what a quality part even is B) There are not enough quality parts available.

They need ALL of these prospects to hit + lock more up with long term deals as after this batch its going to be a much darker period because they don't have a Sale/Q/Eaton dump to reload with.

The negativity on Soxtalk has reached a fever pitch and I just don't understand it.  For years the mantra has been...we must rebuild to move forward...we need patience...don't rush prospects.  And all of a sudden...with so much good rebuild news...everyone is losing their minds over a dozen major league games?  Moncada and Tim Anderson are two of the hottest hitters in baseball.  Eloy in the last seven games is hitting .321.  Rodon has pitched very well in two of his three starts and has 24 strikeouts in 16 innings.  Giolito has pitched great in one start and not so well against a hot team...but has struck out 12 in 11 innings and he's a failure?   Meanwhile Zack Collins has 4 homers and a triple in 14 at bats.  Dylan Cease was great in his first start.  Robert is hitting .400 with 4 home runs and three stolen bases in 6 games.  Hansen looks to be on the road back.  Madrigal had a great spring and we have the number three pick in a draft with three great looking prospects....so many exciting pieces doing exciting things and we are losing our minds because Ervin Santana gave up 7 runs in 3 innings or Daniel Palka is 0-20??

Because they have a proven track record of a couple decades that they don't have a clue how to draft or develop prospects + add in that they are still hamstrung by a cheapass billionaire owner = they need every single one of these players to pan out to have any real chance at more than 1-2 playoff appearances because there will not be another wave of talent behind them.

Also - Manny wasn't signed over 5 million f'ing dollars a year ultimately.  Meanwhile: Nova, Santana, Alonso, Jay are on this roster costing 3-4x that amount and over the next decade there will ALWAYS be guys like that wasting space and money on the roster

Yeah - Why take that risk now vs. a couple years from now stepping up the game and getting a few more years (where you are more confident in the risk profile). It would be another story if this was like a 10 year deal at $100M.  This just seems too much, unless he is rounding up from like $75M and we are talking an 8 yr deal of $75M (and he's just grossly rounding that up to $100M).  8/75YR's I could probably get on board with.  Albeit, going that long you are taking real risk (given just how little he's played at the big league level).

If this is real (which I don't believe it is) it is 100000% a "see we spent money!!!" move.  Nothing more

Anderson, even if we assume the team options get picked up, signed for 8/50. 100 million for s pre arb player is ridiculous.

Feels like a quick "shit ALL our fans hate us cause we're cheap & shitty at our jobs so lets try and drum up some excitement for this season"

Well they had a nice run overall from 1981-1985 and from 1990-1996.

81-85, four winning seasons, lots of excitement and a division title.

90-96, six winning seasons, a division title, opening of a new ballpark and the rise of some very good young players.

    That's not exactly chopped liver.

2006 would have been a wild card most years too just caught a super hot division.

If they don't make at least the wild card 2-3 times over the next decade in this shit division they should just be relegated to a minor league team.

How many years would the rebuild take if these clowns started at the same place Theo did? No talent to get them Moncada and Kopech and Basabe and Lopez and Giolito and Cease and Eloy?

Why is it they should be on the same timeline?

Precisely why I can't muster any excitement for this team under its current owner/FO.  All of the potential "star" assets the Sox currently have were acquired trading MULTIPLE HoF/insane contract players that are nearly impossible to have happen again like it did

Best case over the next 10 years:  Sox make the playoffs 2-3 times and maybe catch lightning in a bottle once for a real run.

So invested in this shit franchise for so long and now I couldn't give less of a shit.  FU Jerry

I am very upset the White Sox will host a "gay pride" day again at their park on July 23rd.  This is a kids game and this sort of political ideology should not be at our ballpark where many kids attend.  The Sox should not be promoting homosexuality, as many innocent kids that day may become interested in homosexuality because of the White Sox showing scandal and promoting such a thing. They should just stick to an anti-bullying day. I was very close to abandoning this team because of this, but I hope to work for some change from within while still rooting for the Sox.

Ask the PR dept if they'll have a dedicated anti-gay section in the park where you guys can smash some people that get too close maybe?

OMG I actually agree with Greg here for the most part. The only thing is that ESPECIALLY the deal that Machado signed had a chance to be worth the money. There's probably going to be 2-3 bad years at the end of it but he's going to be worth it for the first 7-8 years, and that is worth the 2 bad years at the end. I wouldn't have structured the Harper deal the way they did, I would have structured it with 300M over the 1st 10 years and 10M annually over the final 3 years.

Pretty sure I'd be on board for Miggy's aged 26 - 36 seasons.  You know, the ones where he was an absolute monster for 6 straight years, multiple MVPs, triple crowns.  That stuff's pretty neat.

"Well, well, these guys are going to suck in the 2027 season!!!!'" is the stupidest possible argument and gives to much credit to this garbage front office and ownership.  I could give less of a shit about the 2028 payroll if you have a HoF player in his prime to combine with your (hopeful) young talented core.  Not to mention 25m in 2028 isn't going to be the same as in 2019.

This franchise as currently constructed has a ~5-6 year window to win and they needed to maximize the chance at that by spending money.  They have proven over multiple decades that they cannot draft, scout, or develop players.  The likelihood of having a solid farm system & young core ever again after this batch runs out is about 0% when you don't have HoF/amazing contract players to trade for other team's assets.

FU forever Reinsdorf you cheap bastard.

  11. I said months ago the only way this whole offseason would end up embarrassing is if the Sox weren't the clear and way top bidder.

They were not.  This franchise is an absolute dumpster fire and will never get a cent from me until its under new ownership.

They can't draft, they can't scout, they can't develop, they can't spend.  They will never put a good product on the field outside of the occasional flash in the pan season every few decades.

I hate that Jerry's "legacy" will be that of a winner.  That cheap bastard has done nothing other than fall ass backwards into MJ when he should go down as the worst owner in the history of pro sports when you consider market + control over 2 teams.

Yep, I'm easily more frustrated about the incompetence of this organization instead of them not actually having Manny.

Yep thats the problem here for me.  At the end of the day we now know without a doubt that this franchise is a joke and the only chance they EVER have/had to succeed it just by luckily catching lightning in a bottle every now and then.

Can't draft, can't scout, can't develop, can't sign anyone.  There is no chance for sustained success under this ownership/FO
