I have a Jeff Liefer rookie card. Don't tell anyone else i said that.
-
The DLEE/Reliever tandem is probably the most fiscally sound decision this organization can make here. Not to mention the fact that it makes an incredible amount of baseball sense too. The draft picks make this decision even more logical.
-
I expext the Sox to come out of this offseason a better team then they were last year. That's all that matters.
-
Well, this appears to have taken a turn. I still can't fully buy any piece of news being championed by Cowley. I'll wait till i hear anything from some of the mainstream guys.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 01:23 PM)You mean the fact that his agent is in a lobby doesn't mean that Paulie has decided to sign with the Nats?
Nah, i think the lobby points to the O's. The pool would steer me towards the Nats.

I trust Rosenthal, but he does have a tendency to blow these things out of proportion. I really don't think the Konerko negotiations are as dire as we're making them out to be.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 01:16 PM)White Sox are very interested in Kerry Wood.
They should be. He still has the stuff to close games and he could establish a great working relationship with Herm and Coop.
-
Rosenthal has us expressing "heavy" interest in Kerry Wood. I'd really like this move. He's got great stuff and he really turned it around with the Yanks last year. I can't see a better option for him then working with Coop and Herm.
-
Paulie has every right to make a power play here, it doesn't mean we have play it with him. I say we set a price, a deadline, and bide our time.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 12:00 PM)Cowley saying PK is asking for $15M per year.
I hope D-Lee and his agent charged their cell phones last night.
-
Wow, i really thought Ward was retired. I haven't heard anything from him for about three years. Gray really isn't all that awful, and i wouldn't be suprised to see him go somewhat deep into spring with this team.
-
Derrek Lee and the two draft picks from Paulie would be a coup. I want Paulie back, but i wouldn't mind this at all.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:27 PM)For some reason, I can envision a Quentin for Matt Lindstrom and a prospect trade.
Lindstrom is getting a nice raise in arbitration. It would have to be a decent prospect or a nice bit of cash to make the move worth doing from the Sox's perspective.

Josh McDaniels has been fired per ESPN. He's already played an active part in exiling that teams top talent, i think the damage he caused will last far beyond this year.
-
Rizzo has reallly deluded himself into thinking Werth is an elite player. I'd almost feel sorry for him, if i didn't think he was S.O.B. for playing Kenny during last years trade dealine.

KW is losing patience fast.
KW will wait as long as he has to. This is gamesmanship.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:51 PM)Why is everybody freaking out over the bullpen right now? lol. Putz obviously was looking to get paid and I'm glad the Sox passed. It's December 6th. We've got 3 legitimate relievers right now. I'm sure will pick somebody up. As sad as our system is, we do have some arms that at least deserve a shot. Bullpens can be piecemealed together rather easily, and more importantly, cheaply.
I think the concern is that we resort to the 2007 plan of getting a bunch of hard-throwing guys and crossing our fingers that it works out. I'm not too worried. The bullpen is a crapshoot in the best of years, and i wouldn't mind letting a couple of the kids in our organization get some play.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:37 PM)That's just a ploy to get us to up our bid.
Exactly, Kevin Towers is one of the masters of leaks like this. I don't think KW falls for it.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:35 PM)Buster_ESPN:
Heard this: Good progress being made by D-backs to bring J.J. Putz in as potential closer.
Matt Thornton needs to give him a call and whisper sweet nothings in his ear.

Every once in a while i'm reminded of why i used to really love Ozzie Guillen. That interview was one of those times.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 02:57 PM)sabermetrically yes.
I just ran our lineup through Pinto's lineup generator. I averaged Morel's major and minor league stats to try to clear up some massive sample size issues, but this is what i got.
You get 5.239 Runs per game from the order of Dunn, Konerko, Beckham, Quentin, Rios, Morel, Ramirez, Piersynski, and Pierre. This is bizzare and unworkable, but the logic is sound. The key to winning baseball games is about getting your best hitters the most at-bats.

I think this last NBA offseason, where Jerry, Paxson and Thibodeau went all-in while courting the top free agents might have gotten Reinsdorf's competitive juices flowing. I think he really wants to cut the s*** and win now. I'm all for it.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 01:52 PM)Mark Reynolds for Melvin Mora is not how you convince a veteran to come to your city.
Honestly, it wouldn't take that much money to make me go to Arizona. I can really see where Paulie would be coming from, if he decides to jump ship. I don't think he will, but it wouldn't shock me.
-
It sounds like the Diamondbacks are making a big late push for Paulie. The consensus is that it's far to late in the process to have an impact.
