  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the guy, and if he gets the opportunity then I hope he does well. I'm just letting you know, the way the Rookie league teams work, they are generally filled this way... Bristol has the less polished draftees and NDFA's (high schoolers or minimal college, or guys like Dubler who they know need more work), and GF gets the college-seasoned draftees or guys who are "graduating" from Bristol the previous year and are still too raw (or blocked) for A Ball. So if the Sox only draft one catcher (or none) - and assuming Gonzalez isn't demoted to GF to get more work in (since he has struggled in A Ball and is still young) - then Blackwood would indeed seem to be the best choice. I understand how everything works!! lol ...and i wasn't trying to come off as rude, so you have my apologies if i did. I know there are a lot of politics when it comes to the "behind the scenes" of baseball ..I also know that things always seem to work out for Blackwood ..whatever happens, he'll be ok with it. He's a "go with the flow" kind of guy!! He'll do whatever they tell him to do and he'll do it to the best of his ability ..he's a hard worker even if he's not doing what he would have preferred to have been doing!!
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 05:45 AM) Whether or not Blackwood starts at GF is probably dictated by the draft. If the Sox draft 2 or more catchers in the mid-upper rounds, then Blackwood will probably be out of luck. Every time someone on here says something even slightly less than supportive of Chase, something great happens for him!! I LOVE IT!! ...like i said, "anything could happen" aka there is a possibility that he may not be starting, it doesn't matter though, the coaches there already know and like him ..he will see plenty of playing time!!
  3. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ May 31, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) Its nice to see athletes who care about the fans, so do you know if the plan is for him to be the starter at Great Falls? If he goes to GF more than likely he will be starting, but nothing is definite in baseball...anything could happen!
  4. QUOTE (gfbaseball @ May 29, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) I'd love to see Chase back in Great Falls as the starting catcher. He is a solid defensive catcher and I think his offense would come around if he got steady at bats. Last year and so far this year he hasn't seen any steady swings. He's my fav White Sox catcher, my kids threw out the opening pitch for a Voyagers game and Chase was the catcher. So he's the only pro catcher to catch my kids. Chase will probably be back in GF this season, nothing for sure yet though, it'll be about a week before he knows for sure! He has been getting more AB's in extended and got a homerun and a double in saturdays game ..so it's definitely helping! Chase loves his fans, especially the kids!! He's not happy and doesn't consider it a good day in baseball unless he gets to make a kid smile! Even when he was in W-S and not playing, the first thing he was always talking about was some kid he gave a ball or bat to, or let them wear his glove ..that's his real passion!
  5. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ May 24, 2010 -> 06:40 AM) Phegley is out indefinitely with an illness, don't have the name of it off hand but it doesn't sound good and could keep him from playing for a significant amount of time while the doctors figure out how to manage it. Hopefully we don't end up with a Rocco Baldelli type situation with him. It's called Immune Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura- ITP. It's a condition in which there are an unusually low amount of platelets in the blood.
  6. Wooo, looking at his picture so close to mine ..I DIG IT!!! Blackwood is currently headed back to Glendale, AZ. for extended spring training where he will get some well needed AB's in. After that it is unclear at this point where he will end up.
  7. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ May 21, 2010 -> 09:52 AM) Wow. 36 posts and counting for Chris..er..Chase Blackwood. And, women think they have less power than men ? HAHAHA!! I suppose I'm just one powerful/persuasive female!!!

Despite a slump in the middle of the season that caused him to finish the season with a .258 batting average, Blackwood hit 21 home runs which was tied for fourth in the nation. In the Gulf South Conference tournament he blasted five home runs in five days. Blackwood signed with the Chicago White Sox as a free agent on June 20th 2009 than headed to Great Falls, Montana to play for the Voyagers. Blackwood was invited to Glendale Arizona's Spring Training facility, Camelback Ranch, in February of 2010. After a week in extended Spring Training, Blackwood was called up to Winston-Salem, where he would be for the next two weeks without seeing any playing time. On April 30th in the bottom of the 8th Blackwood saw his first AB of the 2010 season, with the Birmingham Barons, as a pinch hitter for Jared Price. May 3rd he would start in Birmingham and finish with 3 AB's 2 SO's and a sac bunt. On May 8th he returned to Winston-Salem where he would not see any playing time until May 19th. He started the the 20 inning game for the Dash, went 1-9 which included 6K's and the game winning single. Defensively he had 1 error and 2 CS's. 9. QUOTE (scenario @ May 20, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) Go to this link. It's for the section of the board called "Adopt a Prospect". Here you can add a player that you want to "adopt"... add info about, etc. The person who adopts a player is responsible to update information about them on occasion. You'll be able to see other examples. Go ahead and add Chase if you'd like. Ohhhh, I'm on it!!! Thank You so much, that's cool!!
  10. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ May 20, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) I think someone needs an AAP. My apologies, but idk what that means!! lmao
  11. QUOTE (scenario @ May 20, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) We're very happy to have you aboard... And happy to learn more about Chase. We're very interested in and supportive of our minor league players. So please keep posting! Thank you very much, i really appreciate that!! I absolutely will keep posting ...nothing makes me happier than talking about Chase Blackwood! lol ..even when it is the bad news.
  12. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ May 20, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) You should tell him how big of a fanbase he has now that you brought him to all of our attention I'm not sure his fan base is any bigger ..people don't really seem to be on his side!! lol I don't care though, I'm always going to support my favorite catcher and you better believe I'll be right behind any naysayers and half story tellers, with the truth and the full story. GOOD and BAD. ..I'm a fan, but I'm not delusional ..i see when he messes up, but I support him anyway!!
  13. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 20, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) Chase Blackwood has been reassigned, where I don't know, but Kanny has 2 open roster spots as of now. RHP Brandon Kloess was added to the Dash roster from Kannapolis. He's going back to AZ for right now ...after that i have NO CLUE!! It's basically just a guessing game for him at this point. Ahhh ..hope he just keeps his head up and stays patient!
  14. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) The Dash played 29 innings and two games today. yeah!! you know they all have to be extremely exhausted! ..when i play a couple hours with my sisters, i'm beat for like 3 days ...i can't imagine how these guys feel!
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) Kyle Shelton did it all. He played 2B, LF AND pitched for the Dash. 1 IP 1 H 0 R. Not to mention went 3-8, HR, RBI, 2 R BB, (though 4 SO) Nice job all around for the kid. absolutely! great job by all the guys ..they all deserve a good nights sleep for sure!
  16. DASH WIN 4-3 in 20 innings! CHASE BLACKWOOD WITH A WALKOFF SINGLE!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) Hate to say it, but your boy Blackwood has been awful. 0-8... 6 SO he also has a throwing error on a pickoff attempt that nearly cost W-S the game. Good news is W-S tied the game again 3-3 from Justin Greene's single earlier in the 14th I believe. Don't forget the two times he did catch a runner stealing "that throw was beautiful, by catcher, Chase Blackwood" i believe were the exact words used by Alex Vispoli to describe the throw to 2nd base for the first CS. I have been listening to the game from the very beginning, i KNOW he's suckin it up offensively ..i'm not retarded ...but he's doing fine defensively DESPITE the error.
  18. Teheran DEFINITELY kicked our butts! 102 pitches with 74 of those being strikes ..how does that even happen?!?! lol
  19. 17 innings for W-S ...omg ..my butt cheeks hurt from sitting in this computer chair for sooo long ..LET'S GO DASH!
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ May 19, 2010 -> 07:19 PM) I hope that he succeeds; but unfortunately, he's not showing much so far. Not offensively, i know. He obviously needs to get that bat moving ..he'll get better, his season has barely even begun.
  21. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 19, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) 4 K's, ouch. finally he hits something!! haha
  22. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ May 19, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) You sure are his biggest fan lol, how did he get so lucky? I'm probably not his biggest fan!! I bet his mother is his biggest fan ..i do like him an awful lot though!!
  23. Blackwood starts in tonight's game. Winston-Salem Dash vs. Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Game number two of a double header.
  24. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 18, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) I second the notion. Don't know why McEwing's lineup is so hard to crack. I just think utility man Luis Sierra would serve the team better as a utility man instead of in a catching platoon with Jason Bour. The lineup isn't really McEwings decision. It's all up to Buddy Bell. I'm staying positive for Blackwood though and appreciate all of you who are here for the support of Blackwood as well ..to any naysayers ..we need you too, that's where the fire comes from, so keep it up!!!
