Now, I'm not going to fret about his velocity hitting the 80s from time-to-time, since good pitching isn't just about velocity. If you look at Neal Cotts (of whom I have personally seen pitch here at ISU ), he doesn't have the greatest velocity; however, he more than makes up for that with his location. If Ring can become a good location pitcher, he won't need the velocity. He just needs to work on his "stuff."
